How the he'll can we make all these judgements on our young forwards whilst viewing on TV who are more interested in watching the coaches reactions rather than the football match. (Apologies to Cooper blade for repeating his comments). The cameras tend to follow the ball so when our wingbacks are working near the sideline in the final third (eventually) we do not see the runs of the lads in the centre of the field. The first goal is the hardest, even Billy said that in his after match interview, players get nervous, make wrong split-second movements with the lightweight football travelling and dipping and swerving at 60mph+. Didn't Diddy take all last season to get his first goal.
Our play last season was fast flowing football which would have suited young Rhian, it did help Ollie McBurnie. It must be soul destroying watching the ever present Midfield either passing sideways or backwards, slowing the play, allowing the oposition to get back into defensive position, thus limiting the space or run he had made. Chris Wilder got the club to buy Rhian for the forward attacking free flowing team that was last season, another piece of quality that was limiting our goal tally, sadly some of our players haven't been putting a shift in and along with the injuries and newbies taking time to settle in, our forwards haven't had chance to shine.
All our established players are good enough for the lower premiership but they have to play at their very best to stay there, some haven't and have let the younger players down by making them having to play out of their natural position and then getting disheartened. I would think Rhian is absolutely brilliant in training but match fitness and confidence only come with a winning willing squad. Roll on next season. (After FA cup appearances at Wembley of course!) UTB

by my count so far it’s been: Ramsdale, McBurnie (McPub/McShitty), Lunny, Brewster and Berge on rotation for scapegoats

Current Scapegoat popularity:
1. Ramsdale
2. Lundstram
3. McBurnie
4. Brewster
5. Berge

Will Brewster reach the top 3 by the end of the season? Stay tuned to find out!
And the criticism
I thought that Brizzle sub Semenyo looked far more capable than Brewster. Caused us more bother in 10 minutes than Brewster caused them in 80.
Got a great goal in last round too.

Hey up old lad, tha can't talk like that on here, Thi only want the Continental stuff on here, everything else is long ball or kick an rush.......

I thought both front players were equally poor last night neither held the ball up neither of them made any runs to pull defenders about Bristol City defenders will not have an easier game all season the only difference tonight is Billy scored a penalty. But yes Brewster did nothing right last night he was all over the shop that ball McGoldrick put across the 6 yard box even the lass commentating said he has to get in front of the defender rather than wait for it to come to him, he is supposed to be a £23m striker why isn't he doing it?

I watched the highlights last night and when I saw DCL playing, my feelings were nothing short of envy. Looked he could score each time he was within sight of goal. I know 4 separate Everton fans from different walks of life and these were their comments a few months after they signed him.
'You had our pants down with that fee'
'He will never make the grade, possibly good league one player in time '
I'd drive him back for nothing'
'He's our worst Everton signing in a decade'
Ironically, I recall reading and hearing some of our own supporters sharing the same type of views.
So what's his worth now? 60m, 80m, 100m from a top European club?

Now this reminds me of Brewster. The best thing CW can do his to take the pressure off him by keeping him on the bench with the odd cameo appearance as and when suited and for Rhian himself to keep off social media platforms such as this which will be destroying him and his confidence with what little he has left.. As mentioned earlier he has entered a baptism of fire joining our club this season , which is no fault of his own. He will come good and the last thing I want is to be looking at him in 4 or 5 years time playing for another club banging the goals in with the same amount of envy I had last night watching DCL.
I echo the feeling around DCL.

DCL is proving to be the cream that rose to the top, I feel for Brewster it would do him power of good to get a goal, even if it hits him in kite and goes in. He's come to United and frankly confidence through the team is on it's arse, once he's off mark can see him settling down.

Oh for the Shoreham roaring him on. That would settle him down.

Brewster will come good, no doubt about it.

His morale is lower than a snake’s belly Bypass, needs time and backing.
Yes he does I agree it would be nice for him as you say to hear fans singing his name, trouble is our kop can make or break a player. Yes he doesn't need people forever knocking him he's knows how good he is, we just have to be patient.

If Swansea go up they might go in for him. If we go down I might just take £10 million cut our losses and run.

Problem comparing DCL with Brewster is that DCL has absolutely unbelievable physical attributes

I don't know how it would work with bubbles with Covid etc but could we give him a stint in the U23s. It will either make him or break him but at the moment he needs a bit of luck a shin off the post and in type of goal to keep him in the side.

Anyone know who our striker coach is? I know we've got Wardy top rated Gk coach and Wilder was a defender in his time so knows what he wants from an organized defense. But I've never seen a striker coach be mentioned or seen in training day videos. Do we even have one?

All these young strikers in our squad crying out for some guidance tbh.

There’s a fat lad from Sheffield called Billy...heard he’s quite good, inexperienced only scored 249 goals but he’s cheap!

He nailed those 2 volleys against Chelsea....one right foot and one left foot...hit the sweet spot. Not too many, if any, of the current crop have that technical ability.

Wow there's also a Billy who has completed his coaching badges who's also scored 240+ goals to go along with our own Billy? What are the chances of that??

Seriously who is our striker coach who has their coaching badges. I'm thinking we don't have one.

I remember the innocent days when we all thought that signing Brewster would solve our problems. It's a shame that he can't even play in his allotted position effectively, never mind help out the shit defenders and midfielders we've got as well.
All? Really?) looked and saw 50 league appearances and no Premier league experience and thought why??

Sad for now, but he is one of those players who will actually benefit from a season in the Championship.

He looks like a rabbit in the headlights, his body language is awfull, he doesn’t appear to have any pace and seems to be in his own little world....I’m afraid that playing in front of the Lane crowd will do him no favours whatsoever...and for 23 million, it’s laughable, and the sort transfer dealing that will get Sir Chris the bullet....
Isn’t it a sad state of affairs that when we eventually get a huge pot of money to spend we waste it all on very ordinary / poor players....

There was almost a unanimous consensus on here that up until probably last summer DCL was still the same gangly 17-year-old who played under Adkins and that it was ridiculous that Everton was persisting with him. For that reason alone, I reserve the thought that Brewster is worth only 5 Million and we should cut our losses etc, obviously got talent, just isn't going to happen for him in a team bereft of confidence, with a limited creative spark.

Nobody woukd pay £15m for him

I'd take £5m just to get him off the wage bill... Give the youngsters in the under 23s who actually want to play for us a chance

£5 million with a massive sell on clause with bonuses should he score loads of goals in whatever division and I'm sure we could offload him.

Personally think we could sucker a team in paying £10 million for him though and would be happy and lucky with that. Looks like another Ibe or Solanke and we aren't a type of team that can carry players and wait for them to blossom. Even if they do eventually blossom we have to sell them straight away anyway.

What really irritates me is I thought he would be pacy, he is slower than Jagielka and sharp who are both ready for retirement in the next couple of years

Totally agree...even prospects show glimpses of ability....I do hope we are all wrong but he could end up being a worse (heaven forbid) investment than Ramsdale....it stinks of the Woodburn debacle but this time for record fee money....I’m not sure how everyone keeps falling for these Liverpool transfer market tactics....
