Brewster

If the choice was between signing BBD or re-signing Brewster in the summer I’d choose Brewster.

No transfer fee for Brewster.

Transfer fee for BBD 5/10 million ?

Similar wages for both I presume.

Is that basic? With bonuses? performance related? Net? Gross?

So we've no idea then :D

Or as Google now states in the small print below it's AI generated 'Truth'.

'AI may contain innaccuracies'.

Much like the 23 million figure touted as our payment for him.
Probably nearer 18 million with a possible 5 million if he scored X number of goals and took us to the champions league.

Whilst we're posting for balance, he's played in behind often this season. Rotating with O'Hare, so, for shits and giggles, lets get ChatGPT's comparison

For balance, if we're doing shits and giggles, should we pay him 4m signing on fee and 35k a week..

Also, im not sure weather you remember he was a Striker, cause youve compared him with a midfielder..

Is Brewster now a midfielder? If so he can't expect striker money..

All this too-ing and fro-ing is irrelevant btw, because his replacement is already at the club..

Edit: I'm a big fan of brewster, been championing him all the time he's been here, but imho it hasn't worked for us, Campbell has been deadly most games, there's a stark difference.

I did explain that he’s played in behind this season. Perhaps I should’ve been clearer 😂

I'm a big fan of Brewdog, he's grown a lot as a player this season. He also seems to be very well thought of at the club, and you can't help but admire his determination. Many would've quit or would've just sat there collecting a wage if they had to deal with his injury problems, but Brewster has always worked to come back stronger and with a smile on his face. Give him a new contract.
As you probably well know I've not been a big fan of Brewster for most of his time here. I'm still not convinced.
However, I have seen a definite improvement in his play over the last dozen or so matches. Certainly in his last four performances he has produced some class moments. His passing has been sublime at times.

I had a Ten pound bet with a poster who lurks in here who said he'd score more than ten goals this season. He's been very quiet of late.

Brewster has shown a lot of different qualities this season, some I was unaware he possessed.

He looks much fitter and stronger than previous iterations, but he's also very good at counterattacking. He picks good passes and executes them on the move.

I'd love to see him get into more goalscoring areas, because his record at youth level was phenomenal and you don't just lose that ability.
He has a thunderbastard strike on him but he's been guilty of snatching at opportunities in his time with us, probably out of desperation (seeing it a bit with Cannon too).

O'Hare doesn't perform as well as Brewster in the loose, but when we have possession he links things together and we look more likely to break down a side that are sitting in.
Without the ball, he's our best player. Without doubt.
With the ball, his end product can be lacking. I'd like to see more goals from him, as he does get into good areas.

Re: Brewster's contract.
Despite his age, he's still a kid in terms of minutes on the field and I still feel there's way more to come from him.
I think he's close to a bit of a breakout season (certainly at this level) and I'd hate to see that happening whilst not under contract with us.

If the terms are right, I'd sign him back up.

If I applied the eye test, I'd personally rate O'Hare quite a bit above Brewster. Both are miles of premier league quality, but that's another story.
O’Hare runs round a lot more, which might disguise his actual productivity in relation to goals and assists. Brewster is more disciplined but makes excellent passes. I would like to see both on the pitch with Hamer but probably unlikely

He's had some serious injuries which have played a huge part in the last 2-3 years. I don't get why people are so blinkered with this and just look at the money we've paid rather than the fact that he's come back multiple times and broken down with either the same injury or something else, only to come back and have the season he's had.
I’m not seeing “the season he’s had”. He’s been ok and has played limited minutes due to lack of fitness. Objectively he’s not been anywhere near as good as people want to believe he has.

If he’s around as a squad player next season that’s fine, in either division he’s not done anything to suggest he should start regularly.

Good post…totally agree
But that is the big question…..what terms are right for the club.

I’ve basically given up on Brewster….ever being a decent Championship striker….never mind Premier league.

But his all round game means he’s playing a strange role as a midfielder (with good passing abilities) who can break with pace.

My view is that Wilder already have 1 eye on the Premier league and I think he’ll want players who are good defensively, have a good attitude with players with pace, so we can soak up pressure defending in numbers then have quick break away attacks.

So I think Brewster should be a key part of Wilders tactics if we’re promoted but it’s usually strikers who receive the bigger contracts and Brewster is no longer a striker.

Expect well offer him quite a low basic, less than half of what he’s on now….with loads of bonuses and incentives thrown in.

Football is a squad game now and with 5 subs being a major part of the 90 minutes you need players who can contribute from the bench
If you think letting brewster go is a good idea then fine bit for me I'm not sure we could bring someone in for free who can contribute as much as he is currently
He also seems to be getting more confident as he plays more and if we do go up this season I'd be happy for him as an impact sub when in most games we will be chasing shadows

Very much agree.

Think people need to realise that Brewster has been so poor, he’s set himself a low bar and almost became a laughing stock pre Christmas because he was no where near Champiomship level.

In recent months he’s massively improved BUT is still average to above average Championship standard and showing signs of gradually improving in his new role. Thought he was really good at Bristol City in the counter attack tactics we used.

Also regards injuries think some people over use the excuse.
Campbell has been out injured but when he came back you could see his good technique as a striker. He was just slightly too slow, unfit and rusty.

Whereas think back to Brewster against Wrexham in the cup. The ball fell to him in space near the penalty spot, instead of calming his brain and passing the ball into the corner from close range, he blasted the ball centrally with as much power as possible blasting it straight at the keeper.

In the same game Brewster had a penalty. A dead ball situation and he took the penalty how I would expect Jack Robinson to take a pen, he just blasted it centrally making sure it’s on target and the keeper saved it.

In every game this season Brewster never shows composure when he has a chance, he always chooses full power over accuracy.

I would definitely keep him because if we’re promoted our main tactic will be defend in numbers then counter attack, so you need a few pacey players and Brewster in midfield can play the counter attack role really well.

Maybe his injury record is/was partly down to trying too hard.

Trying to score to appease the criticism 'we' levelled against him.

Luckily 'we' now have Tom Cannon to take that pressure off him.

I would keep him (and JLT for that matter) as squad players regardless of what division we're in next year. Let's us focus recruitment effort and money on quality starters without having to worry about replacing half the squad again.

Lately he’s been showing a vision with his passing that I didn’t realise he had.

That stat that showed recently he’s created the most chances for us in the whole squad was pretty impressive - was it 8 in his last 3.

The left foot pass to Campbell in the away leg was glorious.

He gets his head up early and is more than capable of playing a lovely forward pass.

A cynic might suggest Princeh was right all along on the ooc front...

From what I've read, negotiations are already underway, on that basis would suspect only existing PL sides (no) or parrashoot ( maybe) clubs would be able to tempt him away.
