Brewster

Brewster cost a lot of money with his only meaningful contribution coming in the last couple of months of his contract.

If he'd been somewhere else for 5 years, cost a fortune, scored next to no goals, constantly injured and we were looking at signing him, we'd be saying that Selles was mad.

I was thinking the same👍.... the Cannon signing worries me as well, if he had cost £2mill I would say its a gamble, but allegedly £10 mill, that's got to be mental! Hope he proves me wrong🙏
I’m a bit worried re Cannon. A pal of mine worked with John Cannon (Tom’s dad) and much to his dad’s frustration, Tom’s main passion is motorcross and views football as a job, bit like David Batty did 🤷‍♂️

They might as well write a story saying the door is potentially open to every free agent in world agent. They are getting more desperate by the day since their club source has been cut off. Long may it continue.

You are talking about someone who we have already made a millionaire with next to nothing in return. "Ungrateful shitbag" seems a fair description to me.
How do you know he's ungrateful? That we've paid him what we've been legally obligated to doesn't mean he's ungrateful.

My issue comes from the fact that Ndiaye had committed to United. The deal was agreed, he would be the highest paid player in the history of the club, we even had the video package made up to announce him signing new terms. And then at the last second, he bailed out and took the Marseille offer instead. Drag out contract talks for most of the summer, agree terms, and then right as you're about to put pen to paper, you tell your current club "actually, no thanks - I'm off"?

Obviously he’d was reluctant to sign ‘the biggest contract ever’.

As I understand it Ndiaye had been treated shabbily from his very first contract to that last attempt which the club struggled to put together and was also delayed due to Ndiaye playing in the world cup.

Two sides to every story.

I don't see how any of that is relevant, considering that Ndiaye verbally agreed to the deal.

He was able to get over any reservations he had, to the extent that the club was able to produce an announcement video for the extension of his contract. If he was that reluctant, he shouldn't have allowed things to get that far. It reflects very poorly on him.

It’s relevant in so much as we’re still talking about it now in reference to how the club has handled players/contracts.

P.S- How does ‘producing an announcement video’ before the player in question signed reflect on the club? 🥴

If he'd never agreed a deal in the first place, then it'd carry some weight. Considering that wasnt how things played out, then those apparent concerns become far less pertinent. If they were that significant, he'd have never discussed new terms to begin with.

I don't see an issue in the video being produced. There was an agreement in place. Similarly to the above, if we'd put something together without any mutual understanding already being in place, then yeah it's a bad look for the club. But considering the tension at the time around Ndiaye, and whether he was going to stay or not, I can't fault the club for wanting to move things along as quickly as they intended to.

I just don’t think he was good enough before injuries, wasn’t keen at the time we signed him thought he hadn’t shown enough and wasn’t blown away by what he’d done at Swansea, also had/have the same feeling about the Cannon signing but we’ll just have to hope that one comes good.
I always thought that summer was a totally misdirected recruitment policy.

We have an obsession in getting Ramsdale and only Ramsdale in. I suppose on one hand we made money but I think we could have got a decent loan.

Likewise I don’t think the money on Brewster was needed. We already has McGoldrick and we just needed to rotate who played alongside him.

To me the priority was another centre half to cover O’Connell’s injury and to replace Lundstram and move him on.

That would have been a far better usage of monies in my view.

We seemed totally misdirected in our recruitment.

Agree

I also didn’t think we needed a striker like Cannon at all, pace is what i would have liked to see.

Our inability to replace injured and past it centre halves seems to have been a recurring theme the last decade
