I wonder what the owners will think to Chris Wilders requests for money to sign players when they hear that he signed this loser for 23 million
But also signed in the region of 20-30 other players that either helped us win promotions or became legends of the club. I think they’ll trust him based on his track record. I would.

Every manager has got the odd one wrong.

He's preserving himself so he's still got a career in the Summer.

Probably don't blame him, but at the same time I can't see who will be interested in him at the wages he'll want.

He's become a very average team player with no USP.

I think he'll get a Championship or European move. The latter might be better for him.

Some players get in ruts at clubs. He needs a fresh start.

Sadly he looks like he’s just lost it watching that performance. I don’t buy the agenda ridden no desire comments but had Brooks not been dogshit tonight Rhians performance would have attracted much criticism from even those who give him plenty of backing.

Those two performances tonight should make us think the issues Wilder has to deal with during a promotion challenge.

I tend to watch Brewster closely when he plays because I know he will get the usual comments that he's shit, but often that blanket statement doesn't reflect his performance overall, but his ability to stick the ball in the back of the net, which i agree is at times questionable.

I'll keep this only about last night, but his performance last night can also be seen as a little cameo of this season.

Out of Possession - Movement off the ball - worked hard, slotted in and tried to maintain his position defensively, not worried about this side.
Team In possession - again, positionally pretty good, made himself available and was in good positions to link up play
Brewster in Possession - Rushed, not accurate with his passing, but he was once again fouled a lot, giving us some time to regroup. Tried to link up play and has good vision for the pass, even if it doesn't always quite come off, i feel he's dangerous slightly deeper and more central.
Around the box - this for me is where i think things fall apart for him. His movement and vision in the middle third is better than in the final third. He doesn't seem to make the intelligent moves here. seems more static and waiting for the ball, rather than anticipating or making the move to force a pass from his team mates, he gets into a position and stands still or waits for the ball
Shooting - Technically he's good, he gets plenty of power behind his striking, but if ever there was a player that needed some valium or some weed, it's Brewster. He somehow finds himself in shooting positions when second balls drop or after a promising run by another player makes it to him, often because he's made the wrong run in the final third, but the ball drops to him. What he does next is rush it. There isn't an instinctive edge to his game in and around the box, it's a a panic/ rushed response and the result is that he snatches at efforts. I am sure the xG lovers will be able to look into this, but i think he gets a lot of highly scorable chances, but his finishing is poor.

If we can work on his approach in the final third and work on his calmness when the ball comes to him, he'd be able to put his shots further away from the keeper and in better positions to score.

This thread has got to hold the record for re-hashing the same points over and over 😂

Sadly, he just isn't good enough for what we need. I don't think he "doesn't give a shit" I imagine that in purely professional terms he's probably a bit fucking miserable to be honest. He's had an utterly crap 4 and a half years in his career, and that can't be too much fun. His injuries have contributed, and he has been unlucky in that regard. Additionally, as many have stated, his exorbitant price tag was in no way his fault, the blame for that lies elsewhere.

However, he has earned what would be for a lot of people a lifetime's wages in his time here, running into the millions. For that, we have had the sum total of fuck all in return. For whatever reason, be it injuries or just the vaguaries of football, he has failed to live up to the early promise he showed, most notably at Swansea. However, he still lives a lifestyle (I would assume) that many people who post on here, and go to watch the Blades, would consider utter luxury. For that reason I find it difficult to feel too bad for him. A quick google suggests £34k a week, which over (what will be) 5 years equates to nearly 9 million quid. Not bad work if you can get it...

I get that life isn't all about money, but he could retire tomorrow and live a very nice life.

In short, I think he does care, and I think he's probably monumentally fucked off about how it's gone. But he is simply not good enough to play as a striker at this level, let alone the level we're aiming for. We're not going to recoup any money on him...he's out of contract in summer and surely will be let go. On a personal level, I wish him the best. He seems, from the limited interviews etc I've seen, like a nice enough lad, and certainly doesn't deserve the personal abuse he's got. On a footballing level however, he must go down as the worst signing in the club's history.

Sad for all concerned really.

Last night wasn’t the game to judge any of the senior players, and if we are going down that road against “inferior opposition” then RB was far from the worst of our players.

Brooks was awful and couldn’t beat a man. Macallum couldn’t find a pass and was erratic with crossing. Burrows was ok but didn’t wake up offensively until 85+ minutes. One was ok, but his shots were at the keeper, same as RB. No one looked good, and they won’t as there’s so much youth and an overall team who’ve never played together.

Playing RB on the left didn’t work, at times he was almost dropping in front of defence in a Souza role. I have no idea what CW is thinking but ffs pick a position and let RB get some consistency there, it’s what he needs.

I can’t see us offering him a new contract and I get the criticism, but he’s our player right now so gets my support. Jumping on him doing the things we know he’s going to do isn’t adding anything to anyone.

tbh I wouldn't hold it against Wilder as one he got "wrong". We overpaid for sure but at the time he was one of the most exciting prospects in England and looked just what we needed, other than the price I think most were happy with the signing.

Obviously it's not worked out and it's no use rehashing what's been said in the previous 48 pages, but I don't think a desperately unlucky injury record can be held as Wilders responsibility, he'll have been advised on injury risk by the medical team and trusted the experts.

He's quite good at hitting the ball quite hard directly at the keeper.

Or trying to hit it quite hard from 40 yards out when he has 3 defenders stood in front of him.....

Maybe he's trying too hard, maybe he's just not a very good footballer or a combination of the two. Either way, as nice a kid as he is, his time is up at BDTBL. I would be tempted to let him go somewhere in Jan if a club come in with a pre-contract offer for him. And yes, I know that would leave us short of striking options but it really is like playing with 10 men at the moment with Brewster on the park.

I will be glad when he has gone to another club. Last night he missed another good chance and he has had so many chances to shine here but hasn’t. It is boring talking about him now. He is not good enough.

Best for all if he moves on he needs to kick start his career elsewhere.

He’s just poor at everything unfortunately.

In a sign of the times my little kid asked me last night “how is he 72 rated on FC25?”

Unfortunately with Brewster it’s not just all bad luck. Since he signed for the club his lack of football intelligence was there for all to see. Nobody could deny the support the fanbase has shown towards him, but his prolonged time out injured probably served only to mask over his obvious deficiencies. In the end we were just kidding ourselves that Rhian was going to turn into this amazing player we all thought he could be.

Legends !! Are you having a laugh? What bloody legends? McPub/Berge/Lundstram.

Last night showed that the Emperor has no clothes. We really have no depth at all which is scary given our PL aspirations. It's "shit or bust" for us this TW.
We've one of the weakest benches in the division, due to the lack of summer recruitment... thanks prince! How we've got to the top of the table is nothing short of a miracle! Last night also proved some of the lads need loans away, not good enough at this level yet. 2 or 3 players in this window is not enough sadly!

It's a low bar, but I thought he was one of our better players tonight. Definitely one of our more dangerous players. I don't understand the experiment to make him into a midfielder though. He's definitely not good to be playing for a top end Championship team though. I think a move would do him good. May even spark his career. His confidence has looked shot for years. He snatches at shots and passes.
I thought this. I was more frustrated by Brooks last night, who seemed terrified to take his man on. Brewster just looked a tidy player, not a striker of course!

I’m encouraged that he was playing the full 90 last night. That suggests to me that Wilder is confident in either Moore and Campbell being back or MORE HOPEFULLY BBD signing imminent.

I was at the game last night. Brooks just wasn't tuned in at all which was disappointing to see. If he plays like that again it will limit his progression. He has the talent but you have got to show interest in what you are doing.

RB it wasn't his worst game. He played some passes and got a few shots away. Technically his shooting is very poor. He has one mode which is whack it. Our 4231 system means he will have limited appearances as the lone striker due to Campbell Moore and One getting game time.

So he ends up in the 3 behind the striker. He isn't good enough to hold any of the 3 positions there as he lacks the touch, vision and ability to play creatively, which is what those positions require. He has shown some improvement in his passing which playing in the 3 will give him more chances to pass and be involved in the game. That said his range of passing is limited and not up to Championship level.

Positionally he is still poor at making runs to receive the ball, make runs to open up the defence or get in to positions where he can get goal scoring opportunity by reading crosses and attacking the ball.

While last night was a poor game overall it doesn't mask his deficiencies even when there are worse performances on the pitch.

So you don’t think the lads who brought us the most successful team we’ve seen in the last 35 years could be counted as legends?

Norwood, Baldock, McGoldrick, O’Connell, Duffy, Egan, Fleck. Some of the best players I’ve seen at the lane during that 2017-2020 stage. We look at Jagielka, Morgan, Kelly, Deane, Warnock etc as legends but some of them didn’t achieve anywhere near the heights that Wilders lot did.

A player doesn’t have to be over 50 or dead to be counted as a legend.

He’s also made effective signings that helped us achieve success like - Simon Moore, Jake Wright (undefeated until Fulham), Leon Clarke, Enda Stevens, Dean Henderson, McBurnie (expensive but still contributed), Jack Robinson, Michael Cooper.

Theres players he improved too like Lundstrum, Sharp, Basham, Coutts.

Theres nearly 20 players I’ve named there. I’m sure if you went through all his signings you’d see the good outweighs the bad.

The issue with trying to sign a young English striker in the Premiership these days is it costs £20m plus and if it doesn’t work out and you can’t afford to write the debt off then you’re stuck.

I’ve commented in another thread our European and world scouting network has to improve for us to pick up the bargains that you’re seeing Brighton etc getting. But while ever we don’t have that infrastructure I’m pretty happy with what wilder is doing.

Can we release him on a free in the window and get someone else in?

Is Adrian Littlejohn doing owt these days?

Yeh if we pay off the remainder of his very expensive contact……so we may as well keep him, as there won’t be any savings.
Also he’s positive and popular ie good around the club….so looking at the bigger picture surely it’s best to keep him here until the end of the season.

Probably more like...

O'Connell
Fleck
Duffy
Stevens
Baldock
Egan
Norwood
McGoldrick
Yep, I’d go along with that list, but with maybe the exception a fit O’Connell, nobody in the lower reaches of Premier league were queuing up to steal our “legends” away.

If we can get some more players in over the next few weeks, we should see if anyone wants to take him on loan for the rest of the season, for his sake to get some minutes under his belt, maybe score the odd goal and earn himself a better deal next season than he'll get by being here having the odd 20 mins here, 30 mins there. Based on last night, I'd sooner see Marsh get a run over Brewster if we need people to make cameos and give the established first teamers a rest.

The issue we have with him is that when he first came in, he was a striker who didn't score a single goal with exaggerated expectations and hype. Gets injured and is out for so long then comes back and we don't really know what to do with him. He's proven that even when he was fit, he couldn't hit a barn door (we were shit but McGoldrick didn't seem to have too much issue finding the net that season).

Now, there's a task on to try and work out what he is and what he's good at, probably not for us at this point because in 4 months, he'll most likely be out the door. Can he score a couple of goals between now and May? Does he get converted into some sort of plodding right back? As has been mentioned, he seems to lack any sort of distinctive attribute.

The lower leagues are calling and it'll be a bit of a shock to the system when he gets there but that's the level he's at.

I started to laugh when the term legends was used to describe above average ability players. If you want legends then the list below should be considered.
Hodgkinson
Walker
Jagielka
Joe Shaw
Graham Shaw
Woodward
Currie
Hagan
Sabella
Jones
Deane
