Brewster; I don't want to be unkind but...

Yep Brewster is wank, let’s blame him.

Not the more experienced strikers around him also not scoring and doing fuck all.

Not the non-existent midfield that consistently go backwards instead of creating chances.

Not the ex-Manager who made a song and dance of the signing and then barely played him.

Not the dogs abuse he gets on social media and here for being poor when his confidence is already rock bottom.

Not the fact that his first real first team run outs were for a side pretty much relegated all season, against some of the world best defenders.

But no, he’s wank. Sell him and play McBurnie instead, at least he wins us a couple of free kicks per game and falls over a lot.

Support the lad, he’s not missing easy chances and open goals. He never gets the chances and he’s not a drop deep and create your own striker.
He contributes less than zero in open play. He doesn't make runs to open up space for others. He doesn't hold the ball up. He's not a link player. Doesn't win headers.

Strikers are about more than goals (which he doesn't score).

He doesn't deserve abuse. He's currently a bad footballer and I don't even know what type of forward he's trying to be. Both things are true

He does make runs. No fucker looks to pick him out but to say he doesn't make runs is simply untrue. He doesn't win headers but then again no other fucker does not even our defence so you can't really hold that against him.

He stands next to the defender and holds his hand up. Billy makes 3 or 4 times as many runs

I've posted about this before but he usually makes loads of runs in the first part of the game and no one ever even tries to pick him out. I've watched him very very closely and he tries to make short bursting runs on the shoulder. I could pick out loads of video examples.

It's a nightmare playing up front for us, it's impossible to work out when the ball might arrive and it never does with any quality.

Two u17 World Cup winners at the Lane now

Turning into west aaaammmmmm

Please pick out the examples, I'd love to see them to see if it's lack of effort, lack of nous or poor midfieldplay. I've not watched him that closely and every time I do he's stood still

Needs to try some other sport. He's not a footballer.

Top scorer at the u17 World Cup so he quite clearly is a footballer

Maybe we should try play football instead of some form of gaelic kick and run football ⚽

Just a thought, maybe we should try passing it to him. He might actually be capable of receiving a pass when he’s marked. Shearer did that, he used his first touch to make space, he’d bring it down just in front of him to give him just enough room to turn and shoot, and if the defender got too close, he’d roll him.

Do we have a “thing” where the players were coached to knock it from side to side in front of the box until a player found himself in space? It often looked like that. I’d guess Brewster was coached a little different at Liverpool kids.

Could be bollocks but there has to be some reason why it’s not working. Our coaches really need to work out what kind of deliveries he needs, what kind of striker he is because we’ve spent serious money on him. He’s not a kid we can write of like Ironside, we need to get him scoring. We need to find a way to create more because it’s not just him, all our strikers are struggling. We have to go back to an attacking mentality, we’re too used to playing teams with better individual players than us, we’re not the underdogs in this league so we should stop acting like it.

I think the lad is mentally weak, fair enough to say he isn't getting a lot of chances to convert but what does he do about it but stand around sulking. Compare his demeanour to that of Billy Sharp who shows for the ball, runs the channels, is always looking for a yard of space, giving the defender a slight nudge just before a cross comes in to make him off balance, anything to make something happen. Even the young Jebbison lets the CB know he is around and up for a battle. Brewster needs to work his bollocks off and then things might start to fall for him. He has a decent shot on him why is he not demanding to be taking free kicks 25yards out when the best Norwood can do is float it into the keepers gloves? When things are not going well you need a bit of mental toughness sadly with this team and Brewster in particular this attribute seems to be severely lacking just now. Not sure this lad has it in him to become a top pro maybe he is one of those who either only shines at a lower level or in a good team when everything is going well
Tricky one this.

I agree Brewster isnt the menace that Billy is, but then thats not his game - is it right to go and buy a young lad for a big price tag and then ask him to rip up his playing style and become something he isnt?

Surely we should have bought in the type of player we need?
Or change our style to suit him?
Option 3 of course is buy him, then dont play to his strengths and blame the lad?

Option 3 would be ok if he was a punt at say £2m, and we could afford for it to not work and sell him on for £1m after a disastrous season

He won the u17 World Cup and golden boot as leading goalscorer. In that team were Foden & Sancho

Would they be where they are now if their respective managers had said 'oy, lads! know you love to take people on, dribble and create chances, arent afraid of a leg race against a centreback, and can score from 30 yards. but stop that - from now on hang around in the box and become a nuisance, run around a lot and go against your natural instinct that has been cultivated in a world class academy since you were 8

I'll try and do a Bergen blade and pull some out when I have a bit more time

I would actually like to do it just to back up my point, cause I have made it several times, but yeah it is a bit of effort 🤣

I would like to see that Mojo if you can put it together - it would be good to see if he is putting the runs in and getting overlooked or instead just hanging around not bothered, which is what it looks like. From that video above it does look like he had some ability at some time but we sure don't see it. I would give him much more of the benefit of the doubt if I thought he was trying.

You dont score 20+ goals by luck and bad keeping/defending. There will be elements of it in certain goals just like Salah or Aguero will capitalise on in the prem but the rest is down to him and the team around it creating easy, quality chances for him
He got 11 and my 76 year old mum would have saved at leat 5 just by not being able to get out if the way

Thought he played well, very neat and tidy on the ball.. couple of poor shots but overall he did well

This will be the last I'll say on this for today, but shouldn't we expect more than that?

As I said on this thread earlier, it seems that we are moving towards 'the bigotry of low expectations'.

Delighted with the win of course!

He played ok was neat and tidy first 75 but faded badly last 15. Long range shooting let him down but linked well with MGW at times especially first half. Not sure I’d be digging him out for criticism he put in an average performance as did several other players on the pitch everyone’s not going to be a 9/10 every week. I certainly wouldn’t be advocating a none league player over him.

Yes your right for the money involved we should expect more and I truly believe more will come i.e goals.. leave him in the team, he played alright today, more game time, more confidence, he will give us more.
