Brewster; I don't want to be unkind but...

Proud of the lad if anyone deserves a turn around in fortunes it is him.

Never gave up even when the chips were down and he went through years of injury hell.

You only have to listen to the other lads about what he brings to the team he is a top lad and he is showing why i never gave up hope.

He can still become a top player if he can stay fit.

Great run and finish to help us kill the game he stepped up with another key goal that affectively helped kill the game because Coventry were getting a foothold in the game and then we broke away and killed the game with a cracking finish from Rhian.

The lads confidence is coming back and it is a pleasure to watch the lad begin to flourish he has been like having a new signimg come into the team and has come up with many key goals tbis season.

Was watching the highlights and saw the embrace between Basham and Brewster, i think that speaks volumes for the character of the lad and how highly people at the club past and present think of Rhian Brewster and i am so glad we are finally beginning to see why a few of us never gave up on him.

Well done Rhian UTB ⚔️

You’ve totally ignored my post. You asked why we hadn’t seen it, I told you why. You’ve not even acknowledged that. I’m not debating whether he was good or not. I gave reasons why he was bad.

If you’ve spent years watching an unfit, low on confidence Brewster not getting a run of games looking bad on the pitch. And now you’re watching him getting a run of games while fit and high on confidence and wondering why he’s playing better, I can’t help you .

I agree that he has had some injuries fella.
My worry is his body isn’t strong enough to cope with the demands of pro football.
Do you think he will be able to stay injury free if we give him a new contract?

As for the confidence argument that is a more tricky one.
Are there any players that have ever played badly for blades that haven’t been low on confidence? Cannon looks v low of confidence currently for example wouldn’t you say? Confidence comes and goes for all players. It would be a strange counter argument to say a player is only playing well as they are high on confidence no?

If you compare Brewster to Tyrese Campbell for me they are night and day. Campbell also had injuries but has contributed far more than Brewster to date in limited appearances im the same position. His movement has also been better and his decision making.
In my opinion when Brewster has played in previous years he has made poor decisions and looked out of his depth at times. His movement has also been poor.
He currently looks good but for me 1 swallow doesn’t make a summer.
Please hear me. I REALLY hope he keeps this up and scores loads for us. I have really liked his link up play with Campbell in the last couple of games. My worry is that people on this thread are raving about him based on 2 goals in 2 games. Some are even saying he should be given a free pass only because he scored the winner against the pigs.
For me in 4 years I haven’t seen enough to think he is good enough for us. I hope I am wrong.

I worry he has also been on huge wages and been a drain on resources. On top of the big sign on fee he had.

Finally, I will always want any player to do well for us and well done Rhian tonight utb.

I think a year contract with nice big performance/fitness related bonuses and an option of 1 or 2 year extension (club activated) would be a good idea.

I've regularly spoke about how the players seem to feel about the club, I'm sure it rings true for most teams but I do always feel like Wilders squads play for each other. No criticism to Hecky but it felt like the squad we had in the Prem was just 11 lads who were pro footballers, not a team. Seeing ex players still so fond of the club is a lovely thing to see - Macca mugging off the Wednesday fans, Hendo helping JRS move to the club etc, it shows that behind the scenes the players are treat well. Regardless of where we're sitting in the league I love that.

I do somewhat feel for Brewster, he's got quite the sword dangling above his head - huge price tag, constant injuries, struggling to score and I've no problem saying I still think it just hasn't worked out for him here. However, in his recent performances he does look to be growing in confidence, he's got a couple of goals this season and if he turns it around to become the player we was sold then I'm absolutely here for it. I don't think the criticism he's received is unfair but I also want the lad to do well. He's got the opportunity now.

Somewhat similar to McB, I wasn't his biggest fan and I called plenty of times for him to be moved on, I also recognised that towards the end of his time at the Lane he really turned his attitude around and started performing, he became quite an asset.

He's found his position.

As an out and out striker nope

But just behind the main striker with someone with pace in front of him and he's thriving.

The connection between Brewster and Campbell is unreal 🔥
I really, really don't wish to tempt fate so I'll talk generally...

It makes sense from an injury point of view too. The bloke's had ridiculously bad luck with injuries but they were almost all hamstrings where he's had a chronic problem.

Like Michael Owen and plenty of others that's the worst thing possible for a striker, exploding from a standing start, playing on the shoulder, running the channels etc.

Far less chance playing deeper with quick touches and more involved. Please.

As one of his biggest critics in the past (with good reason imho) I can see there has been an upturn in his performances. Last night was his best performance in a Blades shirt. He's finally showing the potential he was brought in for.
Reading between the lines in Wilders comments I suspect he will be offered maybe a years contract on lesser terms. With the possibility of an increased offer depending on performances.
Let's see.

I think it’s better all round that we part company this summer. For sure if we’re promoted.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the redemption arc and he’s genuinely added value this year. If he gets another couple of goals in the run-in, it might even be a decisive contribution. He’s obviously a talented player and a great guy. He’s just been terribly unlucky with injuries. I get that people say ‘when he’s been fit he’s also been shit’ but that’s not how it works with a chain of serious injuries.

But sometimes everyone just needs a fresh start. He needs to play every week now. I could see him doing well for a mid-champ side who would put him as first name on the team sheet. A Preston or back to Swansea. If he does go, he’ll have ended his career with us on a high.
