The first goal did not hit the side-netting in the goal, it hit the back corner of the net. It was not a bullet shot and IMO Long should have saved it.

Really Woodward? I usually agree with you on most things but I really don't think there was a lot he could do. I saw it in real time (although beer glazed) and just watched it on the replay.

That ball is shot from quite a way left. When it hits the back of the net it hits the corner of the netting. To me that means it crosses the goal line over 2 feet from the post. IMO that should be saved.

That second goal the player knocked it in stood in yards of space on the 6 yard line. My question would be why didn't the keeper claim it.

Claim it Russ? Come on, he's a keeper not bleedin' Superman. Might it be better to ask why the defenders were allowing him the space to shoot?

Fair enough, your opinion Woodward. My opinion it was bottom corner not a lot he could do. All of this would be academic if Sharp and Adams had put away their chances. Their keeper did well but no worldy saves just lacklustre finishing.

Good post. Scoring goals is about application. Over a career players should know what to do to put the ball into the net and yet some never learn. It's about being single minded, accepting the moment and not wasting it.

We have had numerous players who have had good skills but not the application, you know, really meaning to score.

I wouldn't call it lazy, I'd call it the whole difference about being a winner and a loser.

I could mention names of Blades gone by, but it would distract from the notion that strikers have that application, that focus and that ability to 'mean to score', not just have a good try at it.

You're interpretation of why is probably the more accurate one. We probably also see a lot of missed chances in this country because we all watch football at four levels at least and hence don't always watch the very best players.

In other sports there are fewer teams and hence a greater concentration of quality. I suppose that makes my comparisons to hockey a slightly unfair one.

brayford has been outstanding for us up until recently.. therefore he still has plenty of goodwill in the bank with me. .he is incredibly (for him) out of sorts though atm..we know how good he can be. why can't adkins get the best out of him??

BTW McNulty has that ice cool calm when he gets a chance and is a good goalscorer. Trouble is he hasn't got much of an all round game to go with it. In a top team, one that could afford to carry him to a degree, he would finish for them nicely.

The first 20 minutes ,we were particularly dangerous and it all came down the right involving Brayford Sharp and Basham.
Well it couldn't come down the left could it ? That useless fucker Woolford is on the left , or were you trying to forget we actually pay him and put him in the team ?

I agree with that as well. The second sentence is the part I have a problem with when it comes to McNulty.

Only really class teams can carry someone like that.

To use an ice hockey analogy , Brayford is better on offence than defence ! The second Rochdale goal was scored unchallenged , by Brayfords man , who simply moved a few yards to the oncoming corner without any challenge by Brayford. He connected perfectly and it went in like a bullet. To suggest Long could have come for it is quite ridiculous. 100% Brayfords fault and he just walked away without any show of apology or even distress. I think he is on his way. The first goal was too easy for them to move the ball down the left past Brayfords but was really another glaring defensive error , this time by Edgar.
To excuse Brayfords performance on the basis of hostile fans is plain wrong. Both his errors came on the Opposite side of the pitch from us Blades. In fact in the first half he put in a terrific performance as right winger right under our noses and had us cheering him on.
But a £2m defender he is not. No doubt we will recoup about £500k for him , such is the "McCabe Way" of running a football Club into oblivion.

Serious question, is Long your mate?

Why do we always get the "he's returning from injury" default excuse for shit performing players. Coutts, Hammond and now Brayford all have had this pathetic defence. If they're not ready, dont play them FFS.

Brayfords class will come through, his form is probably affected by playing with Edgar and a host of right sided journeymen. Hopefully Edgar and mceleveley will be gone with Collins next season. I know mceleveley has been playing better but hes not the answer to address our defensive frailties. Edgar has struggled against pace or height all season.

I'm more concerned with the finishing. Can someone tell Che that the goalkeeper isn't the target. The goal is 24ft wide, plenty of net to aim at.
Or adversely tell him to aim at the goalie, and then maybe......you know we're I'm going with this.

Brayford's made endless defensive mistakes recently and his 'effort' to stop their second goal was inexcusably weak, his body language afterwards wasn't too promising either. And no way could Long have claimed the corner. I also think he's on his way - apparently some of the players aren't with Adkins and it wouldn't surprise me if he was one of them.

As for Edgar, he has a tendency to rush out to the ball when he shouldn't do and it's cost us a number of times. I hope we don't sign him permanently because he's just Mr Average. We can do better than him.

Because they're returning from huge injuries. Certainly in Brayford, Cuvelier, Coutt's and even Diego for that matter. In the past these were career ending injuries. Now the medical advances mean that the damage to the injured area can be repaired to almost 95%. The problem, physically is that with such long lay off's, the player picks up other injuries as the muscles around haven't been used much for 6, 12, 18 months. Then there is also just the confidence issue which is a mental issue.

In many ways you have to play them and thats the only way that you get to see how their body will react and get fully match fit.

They play in the U21's for a while before being introduced to the first team. I dont like the assumption its because they were injured. Certainly with Brayford, he seems to have just totally forgotten how to defend. I dont see what previous injury has caused this, unless he got amnesia.

U21's is non competitive, but yes, now he's been back 3 months, he should not have that many excuses left for shite defending

There isn't a team in the league who wouldn't take Brayford, Sharp and Adams. So maybe we need to start looking towards the manager and coaching staff, and asking why they seemingly can't get a performance, even from their best players?

He was outstanding for NC IMO.

did you actually watch the video, 1st goal not brayfords fault at all, second goal down to mceverly ball watching again, instead of attacking the ball, like grant holt did, ffs get off the backs of the few decent players we have and give them some support,

As an aside, Brayford's even quieter on twatter than Jim Phipps is these days. Sign of an unhappy player, maybe (or just a belated realisation that twatter's a pile of shite)?

It is so obvious the beard is not at his best formwise, but is still better than most of our first team while outta sorts..........returning from long term injury into a weak back line is undoubtedly the reason

I think the fans were to blame in us signing Brayford for £2 mill or whatever it was. Interesting that McC gave in to crowd pressure - but I think he did,

Half expecting both Brayford and Done to be off in the summer tbh...
