@TransferCentreL: Cardiff City defender John Brayford has agreed to take a pay cut in order to rejoin Sheffield United.
Was he a first team regular at Cardiff? I know he has been playing for them but haven't looked at the team every week so don't know if he's started every game.

If so then it's superb that he's prepared to take what I assume will be a big pay cut to join us.

pinchy, do you get bits of info, or just just hoping/guessing?

Occasionally I am very close to the club. I was undoubtedly one of the first Blades to know of Beattie's departure because I was with our CEO in his office at the time. Similarly, the arrival of Jamie Ward.

At the moment I have no close contacts with the club but I do have a friend who is an agent at a local level.

However, to cut a long story short, I am far from ITK but I do keep my ear to the ground. So it's instinct, hoping and guesswork!

I mention the striker thing because I'm pretty certain we have a significant offer on the table for Eoin Doyle. I hear NC admires his work-rate as well as goalscoring touch. The primary target is COG and has been since the Summer. I think that will happen next week. Suppose it does though, and then Chezzy say on 31/1 "OK, you can have Doyle" I think NC would take him as well.

Before the inevitable question - Yes, I do think NC would play them both. They will complement each other perfectly and Nigel has said, a lot of people have missed it I know, that he wanted to see how Cog and Sparky did as a pair. Of course, COG then went back and it hasn't materialised. I think it might now - either with Doyle or Sparky.

One or two other instinctive remarks. I think today is the beginning of the end at United for one or two. Michael Doyle will now be phased out. I see Coutts and Wallace (with the obvious caveat) both ahead of him. I can't see a future for Alcock with the Beard a cert at right-back, definitely no room at CB and Freeman to cover RB and LB.

Eventful times ahead!

yes and regarded as one of their better players according to many on their boards. However, Slade has been instructed to slash the wage bill, hence the departure also of Le Fondre

Figured he might have been from the comments I've seen from the Cardiff fans.

Seems to me that Slade is reluctant to let him go but as we've put a big offer in, and JB wants to come to us, he hasn't got a choice.

Doyle was superb against spurs as he has been most of the season, it will be an eventual phase out over a long period I think.

Nice one Pinchy. Unfortunately I get to know sweet FA, that's why I scour for bits of info and then stick it on here. It stimulates debate however much bullshit some of it turns out to be

I actually think that the benefit to the team that signing him would bring is less than the lift it will give the club as a whole. It will hugely raise hopes for this season, and gives the board the chance to silence critics on the investment front.

Also, it will be the first time in the 24 years I've been following us that I can recall us signing someone straight out of the starting XI of a team in a higher division. Not to be sniffed at.

Biggest statement since Beattie (mk1). Thank Christ we've got a proper manager this time.
Errrrm, we are spending on other players as well as The Beard! We all know which striker we're after, don't we? He's Clearly Our Goal.

It's not either/or. Stop worrying.

It won't necessarily stop at four either. Don't rule out a second striker if the deal can be done.
Have I been transported to some parallel universe or something? This is Sheffield United we're talking about?;)

People do know any twitter transfer account is just bullshit/guesswork or ripping off genuine sources yeah?

And a quick google search shows leo fortune west has twitter account that has nothing to do with being an agent.

However Russell Slade's and Nigel Clough's quotes are good enough for me!

I totally agree about Michael Doyle and I am at a loss to understand why he gets so much criticism from the fans. He would be first name on the team sheet for me. I am not sure how old he is 32, 33? But he still seems to have the energy to play twice a week in a demanding mid field role. He will not do it forever but I cannot see anyone replacing him at the moment.
Brayford? Love to see him back but is this £1.5 mill plus his wages (even with a pay cut) money well spent when our problem is so clearly in attack at the other end of the pitch.

100% agree, Doyler has been superb since his altercation against Fulham and for me 1st name on the team sheet this season.....however it's clearly his last season with us and with coutts, Wallace, reed I'm thinking this is cloughs midfield 3 next season.

Three points I'd like to make:

1) Yes
2) Yes, and
3) Yes

We're showing real intent and clout in the transfer window for the first time in years.

This is the sort of signing and activity we all expected when the oil rich owner bought his share of the club. Jim Phipps knows what he's on about and is fully committed to the club and trusts Nigel with the transfer kitty.

Clearly the board is panicking slightly that we're not going to get promoted via the autos and has given Clough extra funds. Remember the Harry money has just surfaced as well.

Agree with this, Doyle has been a completely different player since he got sent off against Fulham.

I agree entirely. That's not to say we can't and shouldn't do better, though. In terms of mobility, athleticism and creativity for sure.

His contract is up at the end of the season isn't it? I think that'll be the day, as the great Buddy Holly once said.

Getting Mr Brayford is more than money well spent . He brings the confidence and attacking options which was evident last season and been missing this season . Also bear in mind he was a big hit not only with the fans , but with the management and playing staff.

football is not just kicking a ball , confidence plays a major part , and he will give us this in abundance.

It may well prove to be one of the best transfer investments SUFC have ever done.

Mr Doyle as we know is missed with his work rate , when not in the team. He is finally getting the recognition is deserves.

After the emotion he showed after the Charlton game, my admiration for him went up ten fold. I'd be sad to see him go.

hahahahaha what a joke. we are selling our most consistent player this season and one of the best players in the team and basically prem standard to a league 1 team for 1.5m, and replacing him with a Huddersfield reject who cant get in their first team. I know we are cost cutting but what is selling one of our best players for a merely 1.5m going to do?. its nothing. awful business.

Doesn't it make you proud that a player is engineering a move away from a team who was in the prem last season and one in the division above
