Do you think we're going for Doyle? Seems a lot of money for a player who might be a flash in the pan. I can't imagine we'll go after him if O'Grady comes back.

I don't know, mate. I was just using the names that are 'on the street' as examples that, in my view, we need a striker or two and a commanding CM more than we need The Beard....and I ❤️ The Beard!

Ah fair enough then. Personally I doubt we're still in for Eoin Doyle after the crazy figures now being quoted. We probably made initial esquires but backed off after the price rose to whatever it is now. £1.5M perhaps?

I'd agree with your assertion of the current needs and although Brayford coming back would be fantastic I think fans often overestimate the affect that the 'lift' of having a favourite come back can have. When James Beattie resigned I remember, along with the wonderful soundbite 'a half fit James Beattie would tear this league apart' that plenty were predicting that his return would give the players and fans a huge lift that would carry us to promotion. Of course both things sadly proved not to be.

If the rumours going round , Sky sources , are correct , and the bids are substantial and not just token gestures to appease us fans . We can take it the club has true intent , to get out of shit league 1 , and show other clubs we mean business.

These 2no buys would be in the realms of game changing players / game changing investment.

Daft as it seems , it could be the difference between automatic and playoffs.

Regrettably, much as I applaud your enthusiasm, I think that these sort of purchases could be the difference between play-offs and mid table obscurity now. Automatic places disappeared in a flurry of crap league performances during November / December.

Random thought: if indeed this is a goer, might NC have him penciled in for middle of defence? The thought just occurred as I personally don't feel full-backs, like goalkeepers, are positions that make good captains (was Bradshaw in 93/94 the last person to captain us from full-back?). I'm sure Brayford played a game or two in the middle and did well. Given Alcock, Davies, and now Flynn, can all play there (and NC's preference for Basham to be further forward) could Brayford partnering McEveley be what's in store?

Gary Neville? Patrice Evra?

While I've heard something very similar, I can't see how signing a right back for a sizeable fee really helps us get out of league one.
A pair of strikers I can see, but a right back?

From a commercial vuewpoint, shirt sales would rocket...I imagine?

;) There are legs in the Matthews to Cardiff story, if that happens, theres only one place the Beard is going, if we can agree a fee.

It wasn't until late Jan/early Feb last year that we really clicked into gear and we were in the bottom half then. If we could emulate that or even accumulate half that amount of points this year we should be in or around the top 2.

Also. I just saw this regarding Cardiff's bid for Matthew's - http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/celti...ternational-kim-bo-kyung-in-194145n.116038246

Today's Sun, personally I find it hard to believe, although Leon Brittan managed to engineer a move away from us
