B.R.A.M.A.L.L Lane

Barry's Rams, Alpacas, Mules And Larger Livestock

I really hope we don’t. What will the sponsorship buy us. Probably not a lot. I would rather have club identity than (biggest deal in the world part 4) sponsorship and naming rights.

As much as I am looking forward to the premiership and all the great teams I get to see. I don’t wont us to be perfectly polished. Working class club tag is fine by me.

What will be will be and if I'm a sad old git I'll accept it but I got a huge, huge kick out of sitting in The Tony Currie stand.

Call it the Viagra stadium for me as I want us to stick it up the lot of ‘em. For me it will still be called (sharp nod of head) Lane! Probably the only place I call it Bramall Lane is on here (or BDTBL).

In 2012 Wonga paid Newcastle £8 million for 4 years of calling the Sports Direct Arena "St James' Park' again. So it really isn't a lot if we're in the Prem.

It'd have to be a huge deal like Emirates/Etihad but you only get those with a new ground.

Would we have to play in blue ?

Gary Jugears can call it whatever the fuck he wants when we get our 5mins on match of the day, when I see the lads it will be are tha gooin t'lane a Satday?

Would some of you still not care if we renamed BDTBL the Tampax Arena or the Femfresh Stadium?

Renaming BDTBL would be throwing our heritage down the toilet IMO. Everyone knows who plays at Bramall Lane, nobody would know who plays at the Generic Chinese Betting Company #512 Bowl. We're getting enough money from going up. If we were still in L1 I'd begrudgingly consider it but only begrudgingly as it's become nearly necessary to survive down there sadly.
How is any heritage being thrown away?
I get it with new stadia as another name hasn’t been established, but the Lane will always be The Lane. SKY and others will use the new name but no football fans will.
Can you think of a single established stadium (none new build) which has lost its identity or is referred to with its sponsors name?

Ask yourselves this, why would you want to change the name of the ground just to earn a quick buck? In McCabes case I’ve probably answered the question at the end of my question.

We shouldn’t even need to think of doing this as we’ve just been promoted to one of the richest leagues in the world and things are looking up, it would be small fry in the grand scheme of things and not worth losing.

Ok Kev you've learned the word 'Bantz' in the past couple of weeks.

Time to give it a rest now.

I’ve never liked the idea, and am yet to be won over by the argument that because plenty of others have decided to get a garbage name for one of the most precious parts of a club’s identity that we need to follow suit.

I do worry a bit based on this thread that if the club were to announce it intended to leave Bramall Lane and build a new stadium in a different part of the city we’d have a load of fans jumping to the defence of the club, and pointing to other clubs that have done the same as justification. Having the stadium sponsored isn’t as bad as that obviously, but I do think it treads over the red line of affecting the club’s identity. I hope it never happens.

Wasn’t there outcry elsewhere on this forum about potentially selling and moving the Academy, something that we only established in the last 20 years? I’m surprised at the lack of reaction to this tbh, something I’d suggest is far more chipping away at the club as we know it.

If they said they were moving I'd chain myself to the Chairman and make sure I hadn't washed my bollocks for a week prior.

Christ, I'd be gutted if they said they were going to spin the pitch 90 degrees.

Extend a stand, knock a stand down and build a new one, but Sheffield United always have to play on that bit of grass.

I’d rather us get relegated than change the name of our beautiful and historic stadium.

I love being a wanker at the Lane.

Generally the 'naming rights' for existing stands/stadia are a bit pointless as they change every few years so nobody can remember what they are actually supposed to be called.

I don't really care what the Lane is called, it'll always be the Lane to us and if it brings in some decent dosh which we can spend on the team then I'm ok with it. As long as its a decent sponsor not something like the Kit Kat Stadium!

Kop...south stand, JSS....all I’ve ever known them and always will.
Same goes for the ground....BDTBL!

Bring in the money, it’s all revenue and all part of the Sky era and premier league
Have we finally dropped the new off the south stand...oh goody 😀😀

Here here! Can't believe how fickle the majority of comments are.

There's no need for a club of our infrastructure to become corporate sell outs and sell the naming rights to Bramall Lane. We're not going to spend anywhere near half of the incoming PL money so why besmirch the club's heritage for the sake of a few extra £££?
