Bramall Lane - Naming rights ?!

As others have said, the different stands at the Lane must have had numerous different sponsor names in my time. Like most people I still call them Kop, John St, South stand and Bramall Lane end.

Only the plastics of the PL would call it the USG Arena or whatever, making them easily identified to persecute

Money cannot buy our unique history. Bramall Lane is the world's oldest stadium to be still hosting professional Association football matches. The final of the world's first knock out Association cup was played here. Sheffield has been destroying it's football heritage for the last 160+ years. Sheffield is the home of football yet we sold the 1858 Sheffield Rules archive , demolished the Adelphi hotel and got a plaque inside the Crucible you cannot find. The exact location of the grave of the co-founder of the world's oldest football club ( William Prest) was lost in the 1960s . The only sign of United'd foundation is a plaque above a nail bar.The only tangible signs of football heritage left are Creswick's grave at Heeley Parish Church, the Sandygate ground and the most importantly Bramall Lane. That heritage is priceless and should not be sold for short term gain.

They can call it all they want for me, as long as Sheffield United still play on that hallowed turf I'm not really bothered. I don't know what the name of any of the stands apart from South, John, Kop and Lane End and I'm not really interested either.

I'll still call it the Lane, or Bramall Lane when talking to non-Blades regardless, but I'm more worried about what Sky and MotD and the wider football world would call it, for example if they did a Newcastle and called it 'company @ ground' I'd be fine with that, because everyone still just calls "Sports Direct @ St James' Park" St James' Park.

Although to be fair they did call it the Sports Direct Arena first so it's always a gamble.

I'd hate to lose "Bramall Lane" though when people talk about us in favour of a sponsor.

But as long as it's 'The British Airways Bramall Lane Stadium' for example, and not 'The BA Arena' I'd put up with it if the money helps the club.

Obviously I'd prefer if they didn't though.

Has to depend on what baggage the name change carries with it, doesn’t it?

Wouldn’t fancy it being sponsored by a local m(b)illionaire and it being renamed the Chansiri Stadium for all the tuna in Thailand.

Plenty saying it doesn't matter, because the fans will still call it Bramall Lane. The trouble is TV/radio commentators and newspaper journalists will be expected to refer to the stadiums new name, eventually this will become accepted and recognised by everyone except Blades fans, and with time and new generations of supporters that will diminish also.
For me, the few million pounds this raises, is not worth the prospect of losing our heritage, and identity.
The majority of Prem clubs still retain their traditional stadium name, the exceptions generally being those that have moved to new stadiums.
