Bramall lane atmosphere

Boxing Day - everyone just getting through it. Would’ve been excellent if Sunderland had offered any threat but they didn’t.

Not their fault, not ours, not a problem when we comfortably got 3 points without breaking ourselves.

Too true, but a routine moan to take the gloss off another good day. Villa fans were quiet against us. Arsenal is like a morgue, so is Old Trafford. Even Man. City never gets going. The design of new stadia means there are no dedicated 'chanting areas'. If you are after 90 minutes of passion from the fans, I suggest you go to Europe, because it doesn't exist in England. Even Liverpool is choreographed. It's not just United.

I thought the two half time songs killed off the atmosphere. When second one finished he chuckled and said that's great. No those songs were an embarrassment. The crowd does the singing!
Commented on that myself, the half time music is piss poor. Usually someone Gary Sinclair met on a night in Maggie May’s who’s happened to knock a tune together in their bedroom and needs some exposure. Yesterdays offerings were cringeworthy. Seems the Lane is becoming Sinclair’s domain to push what he wants on people.

Even a couple of Christmas songs would’ve sufficed yesterday. Even better, get the brass band back in on Boxing Day like they used to!

The best atmosphere of the season was against Hull when we were behind and thinking it was going to be one of those days when nothing goes in for us. A storming second half comeback got the Lane rocking.

It really was poor yesterday. 3-0 up towards the end and you’d have thought we were 3-0 down. People leaving in droves. That said. You’re not gonna get many families joining in with “we’re all fucking wankers at the Lane” just after we’ve scored are we?

The point about people leaving early stands though. How disheartening it must be to the players when our own fans can’t be arsed to stay and support them to the end or congratulate them. Can’t have been many more than 22k left at the final whistle. If you’re one of those that did, please don’t respond with an excuse, because I just don’t care, but it is poor.

I feel self conscious trying to sing while the same twats wander backwards and forwards in front off me treading on my feet all game rather than actually watching the match. Plus I was so blind drunk, it was all I could do to sit up right yesterday. Can't beat a good boxing day gargle.

Really grips my stool when people piss off early. Rows oc people having to stand up to let folk through and blocking views of fans that are still watching and waiting for another last minute goal. Only a few weeks back there were standing ovations at the end of each game but seemed like people couldn’t wait to get out yesterday. Maybe it was the relief of winning again!

I hate when this topic keeps coming up, why do people have a fixed view of what a sports fan sould be?
Sorry to keep bursting the bubble but not everyone sees chanting as the only way to support a team, plenty clap players after nice moves, they all celebrate when scoring.
So what, when the game is being played some are quiet or happy just to chat with the friends/ family.
Singing corners/ areas are a good idea, to be honest it should be something United sould arrange with fans.
We are not alone, I don't see many teams (certainly in this country) have loud vocal support consistenly all game.

Yep, but despite paid employees of the club being in positions to arrange (or at least enable) such things, it's left to the likes of me.... and then we'll even face unnecessary, petty obstacles from the club and other authorities. It stinks. And this widely applies to English football in general. It's pitiful.

‘You’re fucking shit’ is possibly the worst football song of all time, by the way

In contrast, "We're fucking good" is quite possibly the best football song of all time.

Doesn't help when i had some knobhead behind me complaining he couldn't see when i was stood singing GCB at the start of the game (As i do every week) - despite the match hadn't even bloody started!

Maybe the atmosphere would improve if the lads on G would actually join in with chants started on E/F? I know there has been the suggested BLUT but maybe we should have something in the bottom corner of G aswell a bit like Palace do at Selhurst?

And because they don't, E/F subsequently don't join in with many started on G. When we should all have a common goal. It's just stupid. United in name only.

We need professional help - that Choirmaster guy Gareth Malone should be invited to come along and whip all the different stands in to shape.

I can picture each block in beautiful harmony singing 'We are all fucking wankers at the lane' it would be so lovely.....

Sitting down ruined the atmosphere everywhere , the entertainment was crap yesterday , the crowd was crap yesterday , but we have had to play a different type of football because all our exciting players are ill , injured or banned at the moment , when you watch the type we were watching at the start of the season it gets the crowd going , but Fleckys back so it should improve !!

To get a better atmosphere why don’t we play different songs 10 mins before kick off.

Earth Wind Fire etc

It wasn't quite up there with most boxing day games - normally a lot of people are still topping up from the day before. Still was decent from where i was on the Kop, particularly after the third.

The best atmospheres are always when the away fans have a sing, the match swings from one team to the next and all the fans get revved up, I couldn't hear anything from the sunderland fans which was a bit of a shock but probably down to their predicament. If it was a leeds, wednesday, forest etc yesterday with a bit of controversy the roof would have been blown off yesterday. Roll on the derby, Leeds, villa and all the other big games we've got coming up!

Atmosphere was brilliant against Bristol City, need to keep this momentum starting at Wembley. Shout out to Lee Wynter, going above and beyond, hope it gains traction and continues. Palace fans were brilliant today, we need to aim for something similar to that. UTB
Wembley have taken Ricky’s words on board and got a singing section!

Palace fans are always good.

A lot of these "Ultra sections" are cringey AF, but it's certainly worked at Selhurst Park

Saw the videos of their Ultras going to the ground. Looked a bit weird with some huge long flag and banging drums.

Nice that they didn't stop singing, but could do without drums at football.

I don't mind the drums if it sounds tribal.

Take pigs for example. They just bang it for the sake of banging, not to generate any kind of atmosphere.
Then the bloody trumpet starts and all the weirdos go "come on wednesday, come on wednesday". Strange breed

Palace also seem to have appealed to the black community in South London which adds to that urban, tribal feel

Wendy have their 1960's hi ho Sheffield Wendy and a shit drum and trumpet combo that would get booed off stage in a 1960's Dial House Club

They started bouncing 20 years after every other club stopped doing it

It suits the club down to a tee, behind the times, and living in the 1960's

Easiest way to improve the atmosphere is to create a ‘singing section’, which would probably be G+H block south stand. Ideally with safe standing in place.

Concentrate all the fans who want to create an atmosphere together.

Obviously would need some fan coordination which is why it would never happen
