Same old tactics, same old results

I’m in genuine disbelief at how many people are surprised wilder didn’t turn this around.

This is the exact same wilder and exact same performances as last season, only difference he’s not getting bailed out by moments of individual brilliance.

Yes performances are better in terms of there’s slightly more effort and cohesion about the team, but still no clear plan or good attacking patterns.

As many others have said Selles wasn’t the right choice and definitely had to go. But going back to this certainly wasn’t the right decision and Wilder was rightfully sacked for a poor second half of the season after being heavily backed.

We have the tools to play attacking front foot football, most teams in this division would love to have out squad at their disposal we just need someone who is willing to be brave enough and experienced enough to do this.

Just because Selles wasn’t right doesn’t mean Wilder is. Similar I guess to just because Starmer isn’t the man doesn’t mean going back to Rishi is the answer.

Playing 3-6-1 with an overweight striker out of form
I think we had 5 central defending players today (Mee, tanganga, mcGuinness, matos and peck); 1 wing back (McCallum); 1 winger (Ogbene) 2 floaters and a forward. So a 5-1-2-1-1
There’s no wonder we can’t attack properly with how it’s so badly set up by Wilder. It’s lopsided and also to thinly spread out vertically.

This .. 3 Defendinsive defenders
2 defensive midfielders
1 defensive wing back

1 attacking winger
2 attacking midfielders
1 attacking forward

So that’s 4 players trying to create something .. it’s toooo negative

Personally, with that many defenders we don’t need 2 defensive midfielders! Let’s play with 2 upfront instead.

Were we?

Ten minutes of Bristol aside ( where we were stuffed 1-4 at home) I thought it looked a lot worse…but each to their own.
I'd much rather watch us create chances in home games ie Millwall and Bristol 30+ shots 10 on target rather than what wilder served up, but I understand it's probably right to give him a chance because he fluked 9th place in 2020

10 shots on target in Selles first 2 home games v 4 in wilders first 2, same number of points, and away we have probably had 4 shots on goal under wilder against 2 teams in relegation battle, as opposed to 0 under Selles against 2 promotion favourites, id say there is little to no improvement
One of or shots on target today was the penalty 🤔

That was why we wanted a change from CW after last season, but again we got a pretender instead of a proven manager..

COH took the cheap option, then got CW back, and his style of play...

I'm backing wilder to keep us up this season, I think he will, but thats about it..

Pigs will beat us, we're so wank at attacking..
If the pigs beat us, then it time the fucking club folded on the money these twats have invested in the squad ffs!

He ‘has a chance’ because the owners fucked up with Selles and the transfer window and they went running back to him.

Yep, they’ve fucked up 3 times in just a few months. It screams out for a DOF as a matter of urgency.

Assuming you mean Wilder for the third time, well we’ll see if he can keep us up.

If he can’t then yes, they’ll have fucked up three times.

Seriously, so Wilder avoiding relegation after rejoining with 41 league games remaining is your measure of success?

A massive international break for United. We have to come out the other side looking different or it’s going to be a very long season. Maybe us and Wednesday should play rock scissors paper instead of a game of football, be less painful to watch

I am a Wilder fan but was worried his return would bring on negative tactics which he used last season. I was also worried that 1) these tactics wouldn't work without Vini and Souttar, 2) when challenged, he would say that the tactics are not the problem and refuse to change them and 3) He would pick his favourites like Peck who aren't good enough...

When his over lapping full back tactic had finished its course and was rumbled by everyone, he left.
When he returned, he came back with new tactics that whilst not easy on the eye, were effective up to the Plymouth game last season.
The two play off games, and the first half of the final were a breath of fresh air.... however the second half we reverted to post Plymouth, and he left again with his tactics found out.
The third coming of the messiah I was hoping that like on his second return, he had reflected on having one up front and hoping to keep the opposition out and hoping Hamer could pull a rabbit out of his arse was a tactic that everyone knew how to combat and he'd come back with some fresh ideas......

It would appear he hasn't, the press conference seems to suggest we just need more time on the training pitch. If more time on the training pitch means more players up front and not selecting his favourites no matter what, Im all for it.

Sorry ….. much as I think Wilder Mk 2 & 3 is far too defensive / negative…… that is totally unfair - Wilder Mk 1 was excellent, innovative & built a fabulous team who worked very hard for each other.

Perhaps, but it’s just putting a sauce in the same shit sandwich

Sadly CW isn’t the messiah we’d hoped for.

More like the emporers new clothes

I’m sort of in agreement, just hoping he can pull us out of the shit. 🤷‍♂️
