Player Suggestion Bradley Dack

That sort of signing would only happen if we were genuinely signing the best players from our league instead of signing average league 1 players and calling them the best players.

In the current Market we'd have to spend about £10m (total) on the 'best players'

The OP is the sort of keyboard turrets which sums up our situation :)

Most of us know we'd not get him though a club 4x that of most teams should have every right to think they should.

In desperation we suggest players who would improve us, knowingly in vain.

Notice they didn't sell him when another club called. And I thought you couldn't refuse offers from leagues above...

Probably only applies to tinpot teams though eh?

Problem is Wilder and the board are unaware the money tree roots have reach L1 and still expect a few hundred grand and our Billy big bollox name will do the trick.

Shit we are buying is guaranteed to keep us in this league or worse.

Disclaimer, I make all posts in anger and without thinking things through and are part of my anger management programme therefore, if we do well and get promoted I always had faith in the players and the board.

Just suggestion but i think bradley dack would be a great player to have

Nah I reckon Cristiano Ronaldo would be better and we'd sell more shirts.

Dack wants to be in the PL, would cost at least 10 million and want massive wages.

As we're in league 1 he'd probably want about 50K a week as a sweetener regards spoiling his career path.

We could do a Johnny Russell with him.

Bid 300k (rejected/laughed at immediately)

"Hey, we tried..."

Probably and I’m not saying we can afford to do it. But if we were, it would have been people like Dack, Bradshaw, Sawyers, Beevers, Gregory, Ajose, Payne etc. Or players that have recently proven themselves to be very good at this level but struggling to step up to the next level (Byrne, Morsy, Agard etc.) What we’ve signed is

Fleck- POTY at a mid-table team- Decent to good League 1 player.

Duffy- Winger named in TOTY but the wrong side of 30 and not wanted by Burton- Still a decent League 1 player for a season or so.

Clarke- Top scorer for a bottom half team. Proven scorer at this level. Proven failure for the level above. Wrong side of 30. Decent for a season or so.

Hussey- A left back nobody had ever heard of playing in a bottom half league 1 team that somehow upon signing for us became one of the best players in the division. Early signs suggest he’s no better than McEveley or Harris and possibly worse.

O Connell- A player deemed not good enough for the championship but young and had done pretty well at a team that finished in the top half of the table. A decent to good league 1 player.

Wilson- A nobody from a team that just survived in the division. The fans of the poor team he came from were pretty indifferent to him.

Wright- Wrong side of 30. Wrong side of 6 foot. Recent injury problems. Played his entire career at League 2 and lower managing 26 games last season and being deemed surplus to requirements by newly promoted Oxford despite still being under contract. Their fans deeming him “decent in League 2 but not good enough for League 1”.

That couldn’t be further from cherry picking the best of this league. We couldn’t even cherry pick the best of the league below (Tafazolli, Nelson, Roofe, O Dowda, Akinde, Carey etc.).

All that said, all the players have proven themselves competent to some degree at this level (bar Wright) so should be turning in displays infinitely better than what we saw on Tuesday.

They turned down £2 mill for him last season, so unless he's now in the last year of his contract, they'd be looking for at least 3 or 4 mill before they would be tempted.
Well out of our league.

Signed for Blackburn for 750k. I'm surprised he didn't sign for a Championship club.

Love looking at old posts... worst post of 2016 award? :)

Signed for Blackburn for 750k. I'm surprised he didn't sign for a Championship club.
Blackburn - much smaller crowds than us and just been relegated spend £750k on a player. Meanwhile, our Board can't stump up less than that for our main targets. The big investment will come when we get in the Championship they said. Yeah, right.

Why? He was fat and useless last season.

He didn't want to be at Gillingham. Doesn't mean he's not a quality player.

I think that price tag may have put off Championship clubs taking a punt on him. It's a lot of money after last season.

If he was up to it, they would. They all have scouts and assistants by the dozen. Not one of them came for him when he was a 'quality player'. Perhaps they know a bit more about him than we do?

Why is it always the board that 'won't stump up'? We've got absolutely NOTHING to complain about (as yet)... and worries me why some of us still try?

I genuinely don't think Wilder will pay more than he thinks he should or needs too.

...to be fair I'd rather be in the championship trying to buy on the cheap than paying £750k in league 1.

Whatever Blackburn do,we should do the exact opposite

How much exactly have we bid for our main targets? You seem to know a lot about this but every time I ask you don't have an answer. Weird that.

I bet Gillingham wish they had accepted the alleged £3m bids the other summer...

Buying Dack for £750k is the sort of stupid thing we would have done under Adkins or Clough. No way is he worth this amount. He is over weight and slow. Scored a great goal against us last season then faded and did nothing else. Thank God we have a sensible manager who won't pay over the odds. We have finally learned our lesson. If Blackburn are wasting money like this they will drop into L2 the season after.
