To find out which Blades youngster they had signed when it came up in "News Now". Is that ok with you?
by viewing their site you're giving them money, and i'd rather not give money to them. same for many others

Tell us what it says then. Please.

Bolton Wanderers have just announced the signing of free agent and former Sheffield United man Connor Hall.

Whilst not much is known about 19 year old Hall, his time at Bramall Lane will no doubt stand him in good stead in terms of playing for an absolutely ginormous football club.

According to Burnden Aces, Hall failed to make a first team appearance for United, but has made a name for himself in non-league football during loan spells at both Woking and Mickleover Sports, for whom he scored two hat-tricks and also hit five goals in one game as part of a 7-0 mauling thrashing of Ilkeston Town.

Hall will go into the club’s u23 squad where the lad will hope to impress Phil Parkinson and eventually make his way to the first team, who themselves could do with striking reinforcements.

Thanks.

I'm quite intrigued by how visiting the Bolton website earns them money. You explain to me how it does, and then I'll explain to you why it doesn't. Deal?

Got the ginormous bit right anyway.

Well, compared to Bolton that is.

What's that Diego guy up to these days? I need my hedge trimming.

But I need to know which three players Sheffield United must sign to mount a promotion challenge.

Agreed?

Agreed those stories are a pile of crap and I wouldn't draw attention to one or link to it.

This is a factual article about one of our recently released youngsters joining a rival club.

I thought some people might find it of interest. Particularly those who follow the youth team and may know the lad.

I wasn't aware I would be helping Bolton out of their poverty by linking to a fans website like this one.

Wasn't Connor Hall the player we sacked in the wake of Ched getting locked up as he tweeted abuse about/ towards the victim at the time

Anybody who signs for Bolton at the minute I'd be saying cash in ha.ndvup front .. I know a few over there and there boardroom & finances make us look like the Sultan Of Brunei !

saw some highlights of him in u18s looks like a good player was quite impressed not really fussed about him leaving though

Conner Hall arrived from Reading about 18 months ago. Scored a few important goals with the 18s but never really looked as though he would push any further on.
Last season he went to Mickleover and did very well then was at Woking for the last 6 months of last season and to be honest was used off the bench and didn't really do much.
Whilst on the subject, any watchers of the 23s will remember Kamani Smith. He was released and is now in America playing.

If our resident academy sage says so, then that's good enough for me.

We pick up players from City and Newton Heath and we release a few that 'lesser' clubs pick up. We will make the odd error and kids come good at various ages, but on the whole our academy's selection of acquired and released players looks pretty good to me.

Smith was quite highly rated at one point I believe? I imagine hes on a scholarship over there?

What i like at the academy is that any young player signing as a first year Pro is done so by CW. He is the one that decides if they have a real chance to push on into his first team squad. Whether that is in 6 months, 1 year or 2/3 years down the line.

If at any point they hit their peak and will not progress any further they will be released......

It does seem clear that being at SUFC at a young age does open doors for our released players to try and make their dreams come true at other clubs.

I think that's because our academy is very good. I know it sounds obvious when I put it like that but we seem to be producing well trained kids. I think other clubs take the view that if you've got to eighteen/nineteen at our academy you must have something about you.

And it's a virtuous circle; the more that make it, the higher the standard of player that will want to come.

As an aside, I think Elliott Whitehouse has now made his way back into league football with Lincoln.

He has indeed; that brings the number of players in the FA Youth Cup finalist squad currently contracted to league sides back up to three (Long at United, Maguire at Leicester and Whitehouse at Lincoln). He's back from the brink too: down to the Conference North with Halifax and Nuneaton then back up with Lincoln. Presumably Whitehouse was cup-tied last season as he didn't play for Lincoln in the FA Cup run but was pretty much ever-present in the league.

He was cup tied.

Don't forget Slewy.

I agree, it also shows that for a very high percentage of young players you have to drop down a league or two to come back up to where you want to be. This is just how the game in England is. There is too much money at stake to give the youngsters a chance.

That said, they need to be good enough. On the flip side, how do you know if they can step up to first team standard without playing them.....

It is good to see our club with a strong first team, U23s and 18s.
