Bolton boycott

Being under 23, I'd pay £23 but still would rather not have to spend that as a student. Don't mind as much if it is a local game but don't really fancy an 1.5 hour car journey either way to visit a soulless ground in the middle of nowhere.

Back in the 80's, must have been about 1983, was on my way to see United at Bolton at their old ground, just a few yards in front of me a police van pulls up, out jump about 6 coppers, and they start chasing a group of 4 or 5 young Unitedites and then start laying into them, completely unprovoked. I was gobsmacked. I know a lass from Bolton, and I told her about the incident at a later date, and she wasn't the least bit surprised.

Surely if you boycott Bolton then you should be boycotting most away matches? This being based purely on value for money.
  • £30 for the top tier at Bolton where you get a decent view and decent facilities
  • £23 for Scunny away with a crap view, in a shed with shit facilities
Surely Bolton is worth the extra £7 because the fan is getting a better match day experience? It's easy to look at the headline ticket price and say it's too much money, but you can't judge all League One away matches the same.

I'll stick my tin hat on!
Two of Bert's favourite away grounds were the Baseball Ground and Blundell Park.
You'd have hated them.

went to the baseball ground the year Derby won the league, got pasted 4=0 hector and ohare tore us apart , were nearly 40 k in a ground later deemed safe for 22000,
got crushed in more ways than one
annoying they only ever sung daaa by , daaa by , bloody annoying

I see - so do we charge away fans £29 for Cat A? I'll be quite disappointed if we do, even if every other bugger is at it.

For what it's worth I think the gap between the Kop and the other two stands is ridiculous. I have a season ticket on the Kop and should I ever wish to swap stands, I'm looking at a huge increase. For non-renewals, the difference is £99...

I believe the ruling was that you can only charge away fans the same price (plus an additional £2) as home tickets for the respective stand. In our case, away prices are the same as the Kop, plus potentially £2 extra. So a maximum we can charge is £25 in advance and £27 on the day.

Times change mate, maybe in the "good old days" it was great going to grounds that were dropping to bits and were quite frankly an accident waiting to happen. But I'd rather have a ground that is fit for purpose and suits life in the 21st century.

Not deliberately being awkward but don't know which category Im in ,Im away on holiday but would have gone.
The price is too high but so was Old Trafford and we sold out there ,another kind of protest should be organised ,preferably not smashing up the kettles etc at half time or robbing the pitch cover.
A pants protest ? Everyone takes their pants off on 30 minutes and throws them on the pitch ? No that wouldn't bother them. More lateral thinking is needed ,a nice 3-0 win would be good :)

Fancy Dress, don't go as a character from Planet of the Apes though.

Dick Turpin ? 5000 Dick Turpins would make the news ,might struggle to get Black Bess through the turnstile though.......

I'd suggest leaving the horse in the car park, probably not a good idea but the natives would get a meal.

I'll be there and will be paying £30 for the dubious pleasure of visiting Notlob. It is not about the protest for me, I've paid a lot more to go to away games in the past, and some of those times a few years back since.

For the me the more important factor in all this is getting all the Blades together to take a huge, impressive support over the Pennines to Notlob, and giving the 11 players starting off the season as part of a new era under Chris Wilder the maximum backing we can in the hope that we start the new season with a win, and get a genuine feel good feeling about being a Blade going again. Not a clapper but surely 6,000 going there giving it full beans and backing the Blades will be a lot more inspiring than taking 1,500 and everyone else staying at home because the tickets are £10 more than people want to pay.

I was looking forward to this game, but there comes a stage when you have today enough is enough, 1 x£30

Blundell Park was a shit hole - brick wall behind one of the goals where the supermarket was, wooden stands, just about still standing. Reight dump!
Glad you liked it, though, Bertram :)

Was all up for going to this with Ken Jnr - will have to think about it again. £30 notes a piece for Division 3 togga? - The thieving b'tards.

Got a feeling like I had with West Brom away in Basset's second season - 3-0 away win and a reight thumping for the home faithful - Deane and Agana running riot. 'Appy Days :)

Barney, why not post that you're going, that should ensure that many Blades won't make the trip.

That's a bit unfair iiyb, apart from anything else, it needs to be a credible claim, nobody would fall for Barney stumping up £30, he doesn't even feel the need to donate to be on here.

Is that OK Barney, you did say you like it when I mention your financial frugality and it's been a while?

Not going. Probably will end up doing Accrington or some other ground I've not done already

3-0

For those wanting to boycott but still wishing to get a Blades fix, you may want to get yourselves down to Sheffield FC...

Be done in time to catch Soccer Saturday or find a radio...marvellous! The Coach & Horses might be quite busy that morning :D

That's what I'll be doing. I'd much rather give £7 to a wonderful institution like Sheffield FC to be honest.

Well Bolton itself is hardly a barrel of laughs - we've always frequented a tiny boozer down the road but you're not exactly spoilt for choice.

It is indeed tiny. Great ales, though. I'll be there and at the match with two mates [oh yes I have...]. Subtract £90. I'll join a protest though.

You have disrupted the angry movement. Get back in line.

In all seriousness, £30 is a rip off for third division football regardless of facilities in my book.

Add another adult and kid to the list, so £42. I'll be doing all the pre season games except the one in Spain, and would have definitely gone to this

I had no intention of going anyway, firstly because I can't be arsed, secondly because I'll be on rotation and thirdly its too early to start the football season.

Finally I've found a forth reason not to go, I'm joining the masses and saying no to £30 tickets

I never normally look at away ticket prices as they're generally good value and if I want to go it's never prohibitively expensive. Exception is Wembley which I have boycotted starting from Huddersfield game

4/5 were going, not sure now. Cannot United make an appeal on behalf of the fans, I was absolutely amazed when informed today, did they charge these prices last season, is this the price for any others? The robbing bastards, I now have a strong dislike for em.

I'm pissed off at the pricing for this one. It's a disgrace, but more importantly we need to get the Blades off to a good start. I'll be there and I hope some of you reconsider to help us make sure we only have to go to Bolton once this season and then never visit the tossers again.

And they've down graded from reebok to Macron!

I'm a big fan of the reebok classic (in ecru), however they've gone nowhere recently, focusing on equipment rather than clothing, however they still remain a key brand and are far and away better than Macron

Even if the ground was called the under armour stadium it would still not justify a hefty entrance fee.
