It's... another thread about Wednesday! Or alternatively, a thread about United, who happened to be playing Wednesday.

Just published a new podcast episode, talking: hatred of derbies (00:36), BDTBL atmosphere (03:04), THAT save from Moore (07:10), stats & tactics (10:20), feeling upbeat (15:33) and finally, thoughts on our new signings (16:35).

One thing I looked at was the average positions of the two teams, and it's remarkable to see how far up the pitch Baldock (2) and Stevens (3) played. As you can see here, they're practically level with our strikers:

I think this actually shows, if anything, just how disciplined and deep the opposition was - you can see that the opposing wingbacks/midfielders, 6 and 16, rarely got forward, which allowed Baldock and Stevens to play VERY far up the pitch and essentially abandon any defensive duties themselves. Still, it's amazing to see them so far forward.

It's also notable how much Pudil (36) moved over to the left, which may well be a deliberate move to stop us creating down our right (as well as Baldock & Basham being a threat, Duffy is also arguably a bigger threat on that side of the pitch due to his being right-footed).

That makes it doubly frustrating that we couldn't get anything going down our left, where I thought Stevens had a poor game, Fleck only drove forward on a couple of occasions and O'Connell was barely involved at all.

Anyway, that's a snippet from the pod that's easier to show with the diagram than talk about ;) Thanks for reading / listening, and while I'm here, one more massive thank you to Simon Moore for that save. Hero.
