This game should prove to be an interesting match up with the improving Newcastle facing a Blades team playing well but stuttering.
Newcastle have lost only one of their last five matches during which time they managed back to back wins against West Ham and Bournemouth, but these came sandwiched between two draws and an earlier loss.
Newcastle have managed to score only thirteen goals all season, five of which came in just two matches, which were also the only matches where they have scored more than one goal. They have failed to score in five of their matches. Their current top scorer is Jonjo Shelvey with three goals.
Defensively Newcastle have struggled all season. They have conceded twenty two goals and only kept three clean sheets all season and haven't kept any in their last six matches. They have conceded nine in their last six matches despite their improved form.
Away from home Newcastle have only won two matches all season and lost the rest with one win coming against Spurs near the start of the season. They have failed to score in half of these matches and conceded an average of two goals in each match despite keeping one clean sheet. No player has scored more than one goal on the road with five different players finding the back of the net.
The one worrying aspect for the Blades to consider is ....... * sigh* ...... Steve bloody Bruce. The borefest manager who likes to park the bus and try to grind out a dull 0-0. Irritatingly he does have a good record against the Blades.
The Blades are at an interesting crossroads. Undefeated in six matches they have been their own worst enemies. Individual errors at the back have cost them clean sheets and turned wins into draws, and their lack of clinical finishing has given opponents opportunity to steal undeserved results. Their last three matches should all have been wins, but they ended in draws through their own undoing. Lys Mousset is the hero of the hour racking up five goals and three assists, whilst John Fleck and George Baldock have become more involved with scoring and creating goals.
The Blades haven't failed to score in any of their last six games and have kept two clean sheets in this time.
At home the form reads okay. The Blades lost three matches back to back early on, but since then two back to back wins with clean sheets have been followed up by an impressive draw against Manchester United, a game put to bed by sixty minutes before an implosion and a great comeback. Again, should have been a win for the Blades.
At home the Blades have only failed to score in one match all season and have now found the net seven times during their current three match undefeated run. This run included two clean sheets, making a significant difference on their goal difference.
John Lundstram is the home hero with three goals, whilst John Fleck, Oli McBurnie and Lys Mousset have all scored twice at Bramall Lane.
Despite Newcastle's recent improved form and the Blades ability to undo themselves, the Blades are a danger at Bramall Lane whilst Newcastle struggle on the road and the Blades should come out of this the winners. Then again...... Steve bloody Bruce.
Prediction: Home win.
