What if I go, don't enjoy it, take lots of embarrassing pictures of the empty stands to share and sit in stony silence?

(The latter being a fairly regular state of affairs over the past few years).

Cough...

Gentlemen. Keep it above the belt please.

If you want to pick an argument with someone, I'd say the poor sod running the Checkatrade Twitter today is an easy target.

Question is do you agree with how the cup has gone if yes then go and enjoy if no then don't if you are going just for a free ticket i seriously wonder if you are really fit and proper to be representing SUFC fans through this forum.

Not that I should really have to, but to clarify the situation here, the ticket isn't free (for me) - it just isn't costing any more than has already been shelled out. Hence the moniker "free".

The ticket is available due to the sponsorship deal of my employer with the club, the cost of which, has a direct impact on my personal finances.

It isn't at the offer of Sheffield United Football Club or the competition sponsors, and isn't something that happens very often - we both purchase season tickets every year, our away tickets every week, with over 60k paid for loyalty points.

I'd do absolutely nothing to compromise being independent for the sake of freebies. The only thing I actually recall being gifted by Sheffield United FC is a branded diary I was given at a fans meeting once as a "thank you" for attendance, it's unused and sat in the home office somewhere if anyone would like it.

The only reason that this is even a consideration is as the tickets are already allocated regardless of our attendance, the additional cost and impact on the given attendance figure is zero. It's therefore possible to "boycott" by not spending or supporting the competition, whilst still observing/offering updates.

Thanks for the glowing reference though ;)

I wonder if future marketing students are going to be given this as a case study on when sponsorship goes wrong.

I have read (and posted) some bollocks on this forum over the years but that tops the lot.

Your aren't fit and proper to represent a forum because you may(or may not) go to a games as you have been offered a free ticket?

Does that mean all ST holders who went to the Crewe game as it was 'free' aren't fit and proper Blades ?
Of course not, I went to the Crewe match myself and if you are not against the new format for this cup comp and want to go thats fine give the lads a cheer for me but if you think this is a Fa/premier dip the toe in experiment to guage support for div 3 and premier B teams and in the long term the death of teams like Accrington etc plus killing the dream of non league teams coming up the pyrimid to join the professional league and you are totally against this but hold on I have a free ticket so sod it I will go then yes I despair.

I think you need a few of these ,,,,,,....... Nearly suffocated trying to read that!

And Foxy has answered your point above.

Its a shame you feel the need to explain yourself for going to watch a Sheffield United match.

There's an awful lot of people who on the one hand are saying it's a tinpot trophy who are also saying that it will kill off teams like Accrington.

If anything kills off Accrington Stanley and their ilk it won't be this competition.

Some folks will only grasp the conversation by way of explanation.
As for explaining WHY you may go to a football match on a football forum,
that says more about those that need to be explained to.

The free ticket is irrelevant it wouldn't bother me if the club sorted you a free season ticket and away tickets for every match as i look forward to your updates as I don't get to all the away games but if you are against this experiment to guage feeling towards premier B teams then going in any shape or form whether you are counted or spending anything financially you are supporting the idea in my book and the death of teams like Accrington and the dreams of non league teams coming up the pyrimid.
I apologise for the fit and proper bit reading it again it didn't come across as I meant.

The only ones who mention Bigger Blades are the ones that don't go ...bizarre.

In Bert's book someone who goes to all the games is a far bigger Blade than some bugger who never claps eyes on the team.
Generally speaking even if you live at the other side of the country a few homes and aways isn't too difficult.

Well there's the ongoing problem of being counted in the attendance anyway (the tickets have been issued) and I must admit to a morbid curiosity.

I would like to illustrate how few people are there, the issue being, I have to be there myself to do so fully in the knowledge that it's a complete load of shite.

I'm torn boys, really torn. And this as someone who stuck to her principles against Bolton.
If you agree with it, then go I'd say. If you don't, don't.

If I was in your position I'd take the decision as an individual and not as a representative of the site or anything else.

Btw, if there is someone you know who is going, maybe they could illustrate the small attendance for you?

But would not posting pictures of the embarrassingly empty stands to our 11.3k Twitter followers and hundreds of thousands of daily forum viewers be an avenue of protest perhaps not readily accessible to most people? It would provide empirical proof that perhaps the official sources would not.

I think it's been decided that we're going anyway, more out of a journalistic desire to further the message of protest.
