Just passed the squad and management going into Midland Station, presumably to catch the train to London. Isn't it a bit unusual for an entire squad to travel to games on the train these days? Looked like they'd walked down from the Lane too.

Think a few clubs now use the train rather than coach or plane. Better for the environment publicity etc and more reliable too.

Surely a coach, even a luxury one, would be cheaper than 20-odd train tickets to London?!

I think Arsenal do it. I remember seeing arsenal fans hurling abuse at them after a defeat to stoke. Probably the reason a lot of others don't do it.

Leaving a bit early arnt they. Then again it's our only London trip this season so got lots of sight seeing to do

Good to hear this*. I don't think you meant to use the phrase 'better for the environment' in this sense but the environment for a train traveller is infinitely better than sitting on a coach.

On a train carriage, its cooler, you can stretch your legs, go for a walk, buy some food and drink and you don't get motion sickness. As important, you can use the toilet when you want to (just about) - it makes little sense that football teams ever go to games on the bus - or, sorry, 'executive - coach '.

BTW you never get executives on coaches, its an oxymoron related to the way the most wretched council estates often have the most idyllic rural names, cf. Cantril Farm, Blackbird Leys &c. Real Executives, whatever they are, catch the train.

I hope the team catches the tube to Fulham too!

The tickets are probably coming down on the supporter coaches. We're leaving at 1pm so should hopefully be there in plenty of time.

I would think given we've known about the dates for a while, 30 train tickets to London on a Tuesday mid morning, wouldn't be an hugely expensive deal to strike up for a multi-million pound organisation.I would think the train franchise would be glad of one of their carriages being fully booked at an offpeak time. It's been known for an extra carriage to be included for teams previously without a huge additional cost.

Seconded. In 2009, I made the mistake of going to Wembley by bus. Never again. Set off at 7.00 am for a 15.00 Kick-off. WHY? Outside Wembley at 11 am. Gates don't open till 13.30. Some twat is always late getting on the bus, innumerable stops. Fuck that. For 2012 & 2014 I got the train. Left Sheffield around 10.45, plenty of time.

Went to Cardiff on a coach. Left at 7.00. Driver had heard there were problems on the M4 so decided to go down the Fosse Way. Seven fucking hours.
Then, after the pile of crap we served up, had to wait til gone six while someone got the organiser out of the local nick, where he'd been put for fighting.

I prefer travelling by train than by coach but in 1967 SUFC shareholders thought that the players would be better travelling by a private coach than by train. A shareholder complained that the players travelled by train for the FA Cup match at Chelsea in March 1967 when Wendy now had their own private coach to take players to away games. Since 1967 our players had always travelled to away matches by coach but it seems that travelling by train is now preferable?

Manchester City catch the train to away games regularly, use Stockport and Macclesfield stations usually.

Don't I recall the team was late travelling by coach to Spurs earlier this year due to traffic congestion. Also, now the government has given us a Northern Powerhouse travelling by train will be much easier due to the upgrading work which will be carried out on the railways. Oh.

Travelled to London by train, stayed in a hotel for the afternoon, coach was stuck in traffic from their to WHL

Saw the Middlesbrough team coach on the A1 at about 19:30 yesterday (mon) on their way to play burton today (tues).

Surely makes miles more sense to travel on a relatively comfortable train, than the coach, then a hotel, then the coach again. Pros and cons to both but train on the day makes more sense to me.
