Went to Cardiff on a coach. Left at 7.00. Driver had heard there were problems on the M4 so decided to go down the Fosse Way. Seven fucking hours.
Then, after the pile of crap we served up, had to wait til gone six while someone got the organiser out of the local nick, where he'd been put for fighting.

Sounds similar to me and my dads journey there. Is Fosse Way through the hills with hundreds of sheep ? Didn't go on a coach from the Vic in Dronfield did you ?

Back in 2011 I got told Blackwell had been sacked after the QPR game by members of Cardiff's first team who were travelling on the train back from Derby (I was going down to London). I can't remember his name now but I'm pretty sure I was told by the guy who'd scored against us the week before in our 1-1 draw, went on to play for the dark side.

Yes, down the A roads.
No, from the Sheldon.

So what happens when they get to the other end? All pile in taxis or a smart jog to the ground?

I was told by ticket office and website that the Fulham tickets were coming down on the coach so I'm guessing they're travelling down by train then getting the coach back.
I think a coach always has to go because of the bulky kit requirements. I imagine they will travel back by coach as they shouldn't get held up coming back and it'll be more flexible for dropping those off that don't need to go back to the Lane.

United began travelling again on train services to London for London away games at the start of the 2006/07. We had an away game at Tottenham in the league early on in the Premiership season and the usual coach we used broke down, and Warnock had the idea of instead of taking the coach down, to take the train down on the Friday afternoon, and that is how it all started.

On one of the following occasions United travelled down on the train on the way down, i worked on board, and made sure i let all the players know where i was off to the next day, we was at West Ham, and i managed to have a good chat with a few of the players, and get a couple of bits autographed. The company had the photographers out that day, and they took a photograph with the on-train crew with the United squad i got my photo taken with it. When the train pulled in to Derby, it was met by a Driver Manager who drove the train down giving Neil Warnock a cab ride, and there was a few press articles where Warnock talked about it, and span the line that he was a boyhood trainspotter. Fair play to Warnock as 2 or 3 years later when he was Palace manager he got in touch with the company and arranged for the Driver Manager who gave him a cab ride, to attend a Palace v Derby match as Warnocks personal guest.

I've not worked on board for a few years, but through the power of social media i alway find out from people who i work with which football teams are travelling on train as a lot of the staff have pictures taken. Certain teams seem to travel on East Midlands more than others, Us, Derby and Leicester seem to travel the most, whilst out of the London clubs, QPR and Palace often use the train as well. Must be the Warnock connection.

Having said that, i'm yet to hear of a team who travel back on a Saturday after the match, i think this is due to the high volume of people travelling on a saturday night, and if the team lose it might not be in their best interests to be near a load of pissed fans. I from memory i seem to remember the tickets they use aren't full price either, as there is a commercial partnership between the Blades and the Train Company.

I've always enjoyed travelling by Lear Jet, but if you think the train is wonderful, then that's fine :)
That's just a bit 1970's though. Have you tried teleportation? The caveat is that you usually end up with your left forearm fused to your right knee and your bollocks where your nose used to be but that's just a small price to pay for the executive in a hurry...

Shinkansen is the best thing I've ever travelled on and you even get a bow from the train crew.
What?

Isn't the English language wonderful? :)

I seem to remember a team we played at the Lane once flew into Donny Airport, maybe it was Arsenal? Can't have flown from London though, maybe they had a training week in Spain or something.
