KEVIN Blackwell is expected to be confirmed as Sheffield United's permanent manager before Sunday's Championship fixture at Southampton.
Officials at Bramall Lane have announced they will hold a press conference to announce the appointment on Saturday; just hours before the first-team squad fly to St Mary's Stadium.
And The Star understands that Blackwell, who signed a short-term deal when he replaced Bryan Robson at the helm in February, learned his services were being retained during a meeting with the club's plc chairman Kevin McCabe in New York earlier this week.
United's statement read: "Sheffield United have called a media conference for 10am on Saturday, May 3 at Bramall Lane when the new team manager will be announced and introduced."
United can qualify for the Championship play-offs if they beat Southampton and then results elsewhere go their way.
