Blades that didn’t deliver.

Recent developments of this thread have been as hilarious as when RS ask you to theme a players name around something.

I’ll get this one in before everyone wakes up in the morning. John Ebbrell from Everton.

Cheers John that 45 first half minutes kicking towards the lane end will live in my memory for ever. Outstanding value for money
I bloody missed it! I never even saw our record signing.

Paul Holland, Simon Francis, Bobby Ford, Shaun Derry, John Joe O'Toole, Michael Twiss

All signed with a decent bit of young player fanfare
I always liked Derry but we never played him in centre mid, he always seemed to fill in at right back or centre back when I saw him. Allerdyce had him at Notts county when they stormed the basement division and said he was the best player by a mile.

Damn you , I was reading the thread hoping nobody would mention him so I could leap in 😀. He was terrible on the pitch but brilliant at pointing and slagging off the team to anyone who would listen in the copthorne.
What kind of things did he say?

Chris Guthrie after almost qualifying for Europe. Another point in the Blades history where we could have kicked on, instead we spent a 'massive' £100 000 on Donkey Guthrie.

Pedro Verde, came as part of Sabella deal as a full Argentinian International who were World Champions at the time.

You all best me to it. I bloody hated Harper, he came here having looked good for Reading. He didn't just wave his arms around in the Copthorne, it's all he ever did on the bloody pitch. He would have made a great traffic cop.

Brian Howard, one great game for the dingles on telly and we spunked a load of dosh on the useless git!

As for Hammond the man of great unseen work, don't get me started!

Thank you to Chris Wilder for changing our world. At least when a signing doesn't work out he ships them out quickly.

All the best names have been mentioned already. So I'll add this name to the list - Ryan Leonard.

Never has a Blades manager had the hots for a single player window after window, working the fanbase up into a complete frenzy only for said player to prove absolutely anonymous once he signed. The contrast between expecatations and performances delivered has never been greater for any player of ours IMO.

To be fair both Ford and Derry did well under Spackman.

Ade Akinbiyi and Geoff Horsfield were both signed for big money (relative to the time), delivered very little and had no re-sale.

Ade gets an automatic pass for THAT goal at the Sty. But you could put Luke Beckett in his place, especially considering how long Warnock pursued him.

Brian bloody Howard.

James Harper.
the pointer.. ;)
tbf him, howard and britton didnt' have much of a chance watching the ball flying over their head and pointing to where they thought it was going to land a al spot the ball
oh.. and they had monty to play with

From a Telegraph article:

And he is equally certain who was his worst boss. “Neil Warnock,” he says, without hesitation. “We had a very brief relationship at Sheffield United. He bought me, gave me a three year contract then, four games in, I missed a chance against Reading. Next thing I know he’s sold me to Millwall. OK, these things happen. But he’s told everyone I’ve demanded a move because I don’t like northerners. I never even wanted to leave. He stitched me right up. When I went back to play there with Millwall I got stretchered off and had to go round the entire pitch, getting pelted. I got so much abuse from the Sheffield United fans it was ridiculous. When he was Crystal Palace manager, I played there with Leicester. I scored the winner and made sure I celebrated in front of his dug out.”

Totally believe him. Warnock has form for that sort of shit.

Dropped Windass for the play off final and told him to tell the press he had a calf strain. Sent Horsefield packing for having a go at Jags and Monty in an away defeat in the promotion season.

Brromheads at Crookes. He's a Blade and doesn't deliver. In fact he hardly ever opens.

For balance, neither does the Pig at Tony's.

Is that player who didn't deliver or a hilarious entry into the bakery pun thread?

If the latter, you've missed out one of Rice Crispies key sounds, as in:

Febian Brandy-snap!

Coat on.......
It’s the former. Him and that Belgian kid whose name I can’t remember were very disappointing.

Also Diego De Girolamo. Can't believe he was mentioned in one of our songs, shows how far we've come. And 40 first team apppearances for Diego in 7 years shows you the level he's at

Part of Sabella deal? We signed Verde from Hercules (Spain) in summer 1979. He has played in the same line up as Sabella for us in 1979-80 season.
