I'm sorry to hear of the sad loss of the pig fan and support the acknowledgement muted on Sunday.
I also totally endorse the views as to where does all this end?
I fucking hate social media. It is full of vacuous cunts with nothing better to say than how big thier morning shit was. Any retarded failed medical experiment with access to the internet can pollute the world with the utter fucking bollux that could have so easily been avoided had their mother kept their fucking legs shut or used contraception.
I hate fucking facebook, twitter and all that. It is populated by shallow wankstains who anyone with a brain would avoid in real life.
Back on topic lets give the guy a round of applause, but as others have rightly said, enough already with regard to homage to every fucking sad thing that happens.

Freudian slip on the 1st line made me chuckle. Mooted/muted :)
Social media is here to stay pal...love it or hate it. I try to embrace it, but I've yet to declare how big my morning shit is...maybe tomorrow.
Agree with your final comment.

Well said sir, fully endorse your sentiments. As always, said in your own inimitable style.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that we use matches to pay homage to every sad event SBT. But every now and again someone passes that (for whatever reason) deserves a token of respect. It might be a former player, a child, or in this case a supporter of the dark side who just happened to do shit loads for the game as well as being a top bloke (by all accounts). There has to be a limit and I think most fanbases are sensible enough to know when it means something rather than just doing it for the sake of it.

As for Social Media in general, I agree to an extent that it's created an environment for idiots, utter pond life in some cases, to thrive. It's very democratic but giving everyone a voice and a method of saying whatever the fuck they like to whoever they like isn't necessarily good. 20 years ago these idiots would have had to spout their bollocks on a street corner, which they wouldn't have had the courage to do. Hiding behind a profile makes everyone do things they wouldn't normally do I reckon.

All that being said, it can be a very good thing if used well. Sharing ideas with and finding like minded people all over the world has to be a good thing, surely?

I absolutely agree with what you say. The best thing about social media would be the introduction of a requirement for the poster to front up whosoever he /she abuses. Gets the fucking shit kicked out of them and closes their Twatbuck account post haste. Life was oh so much more simple when a comment you made was to the face of the recipient.
Facebook. A contradiction in terms.

Sick of the minute applause everytime someone dies its like going to church some weeks.
Good job were not man utd we would have to have fergie time to get all the clapping in

I agree with the OP to some extent, although I must admit, I am on Facebook. It's a long story but basically it's about the only way I can keep in regularly contact with my lad, who's 20 and lives in Montpellier, France. I lost touch with him for 12 years and found him through Facebook so I'm thankful for it in that respect. However, have to agree with you on the general content, "Look what I'm having for tea" shite. I don't even know how Twitter works but it seems to get a lot of folk in trouble.

I'm sorry SBT, but I find this a bit ironic.

This is a public message board where people post a lot of tosh at times. Twitter and Facebook are different formats, but in my eyes, this forum is full of some of the things you've described.

Last point is on the mark to be fair - at Wednesday they seem to have a minutes applause or such like nearly every home game at the moment according to some of their fans I know and apparently it's starting to wear a bit thin - as you'd expect, it's resonance diminishes each time it's done for every Tom Dick & Harry that passes.

Fair enough for the guy they're doing it for this weekend - he died whilst sat on their Kop, it's fair game. Not sure why we need to get involved but whatever. Quite liked the think we did last home game with the applause for all those that have gone during the season, seemed to work.

Genuine question, would we be having a minutes applause had the Wednesday fan not died at Hillsborough?

Over the years, there must have been many fans who also die relatively young that do plenty for local football, but as their deaths don't make it into the Star, no one cares about minutes applauses.

It just seems a bit like we are doing this to be seen to be doing the right thing as there is media attention, rather than genuinely wanting to pay respect.

It always amazes me how 'social media' is apparently the place for people to vent their spleen using a tirade of foul and abusive words that wouldn't be acceptable in ordinary life. People, you don't need to swear in every post, we have other, non offensive words that would help you make your point more powerfully.

I have sympathy with the OP sentiments, or at least what's left of it after I've removed the expletives. I can only imagine it's the fault of auto fill and auto correct.

I take it nobody has noticed that S24SU.com is a social media outlet....

:tumbleweed:

I don't see how this is classed as "social", no one on here knows who I am, I don't know who anyone else is.

I come on to share views with other fans on United, I ain't here to make friends, meet for a pint and be "social".

Honestly not sure mate, probably not. But it seems to be a combination of the circumstances of his passing and the fact that he was seemingly so well respected by so many Blades as well. Seems more like respecting a valued member of the community (footballing and general) than anything else.

I do agree that a line has to be drawn somewhere though otherwise we would be doing this every match. We certainly won't be doing this when Tango's heart finally explodes during a rendition of 'Hi Ho.......'

Sometimes, you end up becoming a reflection of what you hate.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's clapping for 1 minute out of my 2 hours at the Lane.

So what if I didn't know the person, I do it out of respect for the people who did & the fact that the club/a fellow Blade/local community have lost someone close to them.

So fucking what if the "novelty" has wore off for some people. I hope it continues as it shows we are a family. THE BLADES FAMILY.

Indeed.

I take it that's a few of you ruling yourselves out of a minutes applause when the time comes. Perhaps you would want a minute of as many expletives as everyone can think of, SBT? Make the tribute fit the person.;) I think the end-of-season tribute, plus a few exceptional cases, is about right.

BDTL is my church. I worship there regularly, and sing the hymns with gusto.

Got to agree with this ..... would be nice to see the Directors Box occupied during this tribute as well

Actually, I'd love that as a tribute, 20,000 Blades shouting in unison 'go on then, fuck off'.

Come on then - don't keep us all hanging!

How big was it?

Isn't this board a form of social media?

Anyway, I agree with all the other forms but like it's been said, here to stay. If you hate it so much, come off it.

My pennies worth, as said above dont agree this is social media in the same way of crapbook and twatter , no one knows who you are ,just views on our blades

I hate social media , self important attention seeking arseholes , online bullying ( bad enough in person for anyone let alone when at home on your own also ) ,used by the pure scum of the earth Isis and co , online grooming , sexting etc

Also hate the way everyone has to look at there phones every five seconds and do selfies ,post where they are on Facebook, when out with mates etc ,

As a dad to 2 young daughters I hate all this social media and will be so worried what evil pieces of shit are trying to prey on them via Facebook etc

Rant over !
