That's one of the problems with the whole marching to the monitor process. It takes either a massive ego or a massive pair of balls for a ref to stick with their initial decision when called out like that. Wonder what the stats are on decisions being overturned by monitor checks?

It's the big song and dance we have to do to get to a decision we all know is coming. As soon as VAR takes more than twenty seconds we all know what's coming. No way VAR deliberate that long, send the ref to the monitor, and then the ref sticks to his guns. If he did he'd be saying VAR were pissing about over nothing and that his quick glance at a screen was a better decision than their review.

And yet again, even with the benefit of replays, there'll be widespread disagreement over that decision, so we're not actually better off. All VAR achieved tonight is adding a bunch of pointless drama to the game.

When giving a decision like that you always have to take into consideration that if Jags is making a fair challenge it would put him off somewhat therefore giving Bryan and Baldock even more time to get to Al Ghazi, what I’m trying to say is you can’t take Jags out of the decision making at all as he was there at the time of Al Ghazi attacking towards our goal, Al Ghazi wouldn’t just have free reign to run at our goal.

It was a joke decision regardless of what I’ve just wrote but I thought it was worth pointing out and enhancing how wank the decision was anyway.

What made it worse was in the slow replay (not the VAR shot) as they collided in the background you can see Bryan running past and slowing down. I know the ref didnt see it but I just dont get the decision its a complete joke. Jags wasnt the last man and the foul was a yellow. Its almost like the ref had a blind spot in the middle of the pitch/picture and bod knows what VAR were saying.

I hope the Blades appeal it.

The whole going over to the monitor process automatically puts the referee in the mindset he has made an incorrect decision or missed something. Totally agreed it takes balls to stick to your initial decision however referees should be capable of looking at it and going oh yeah that's fine but VAR is as realistic as WWF/WWE I think we might be better with Hulk Hogan for the novelty value. In all other sports it's used to assist the referee not influence even the biased commentators were saying it could have gone either way, in that case it should be sticking with the original decision unless it's clear and obvious it's incorrect.

Come on, OK first time round I can understand (but cannot accept the reason) there being a problem with goal line technology.
Second time, John Egan red card, very surprised about at the time.

It is common knowledge that United are playing with a skeleton crew at the back, no CB, JOC, JE. What better way to sucker punch them even more... using sneaky rules of the game. Without hearing the conversations the refs are having, VAR could be saying anything. The ref was within a good distance and had a clear view. He gave a yellow, as he would surely have seen the other defenders tracking back. VAR gets involved, shows ref a couple of stills and probably orders the ref to change to red. VAR had already made it mind up by the way and only asked the ref to come over as a courtesy to the fans and managers that protested that refs weren't looking at the incidents. Its all a show. Money. Headlines. Tweets. Lets laugh at United's misfortune.

As every season goes by, the Premier League gets more and more like the WWE.
