Why would people living in East London, specifically of Asian decent support Manchester City? Surely they've all switched to Leicester now?

Possibly. I was having dinner in the pub across the road from me a couple of weeks ago and their was some kid in there wearing a Leicester City shirt.

Well, i am sorry, but how do you describe a geezer who aint white, i am truly sorry if i offend, i have not lived in Blighty for.....not sure,, donkeys years, and i keep hearing things, like you cant call a blackboard a blackboared, has to be a wipe boared etc, m8 i am far from racist, i have a brown wife, lol, its my ignorance, i dont know what is politically correct how to describe our coloured mates, i worked in a cab firm in NW 10, and i was the only white guy, you should have heard how they described me !!! seriously though, some and still of me m8s in england are mmm coloured, Help please !!!
I wouldn't worry bout it too much , nothing you've said from my point of view , has shown you to be a raging
racist .
But then what do I know being a thick paddie , and to make it worse I'm a ginger nut as well . :(

The Spurs=Jew thing is overdone a bit I think. Besides, Jews are a minority round there.

I'd add also that lots of the people round Upton Park do support football, but support teams like Manchester City rather than West Ham.
When we played Arsenal at Highbury we were walking to the ground and some Jewish lads were hanging out of a 3rd storey window watching us walk past.
Some Blades fans started pointing at them singing "We've got a foreskin, we've got a foreskin you ant, you ant".
I laughed quite a lot. Does this make me racist:)

A lot of names that weren't deemed offensive are now on the banned list.
Coloured, spastic, midget, Paki, Eskimo, Siamese Twins.....

Please where do I stand in diplomatic circles with saying

fucking pig wank bastards arsehole rust dwelling cunts

when talking about our friends from the nether regions. Am I in the political wrong or right?

Not sure where you stand but building them up so much might see you called out as one.

I just think it's fucking pathetic. Anyone who thinks that is amusing.

M8, like i said, i didnt mean to offend, the geezer in question was a black guy, i dont know where his origins were, i could not say he was a black Nigerian for example, i dont know the correct way to describe, i only know he was a Blade, and my only concern was to help him.

Good on you for helping the guy. I don't get offended by the terminology. My youngest lad (adopted) is half Afro Carribean and half Kosovan. All that matters to me is that he is my Son.

Indeed. Arsenal probably have just as many Jewish fans as Spurs do. Chelsea also have lots of Jewish fans as do West Ham. The Spurs thing as hugely overdone...though they aren't helped by selling bagels in their West stand

Absolutely nothing that I said was wrong. Where does what I say contradict what you say above?

Hi Pinchy, in my post #42 I said that Blacks were not coloured and in your post #44 you said no they were not. That's where difference of opinion is/was. Indeed BoS' post about Jamaica kind of sums up the mindset. As I said late last night it really is a shame about RSA. Yes I know some of the Afrikaaners live up to their reputation of being boorish and they are arrogant but no more than some of us are or our dear cousins (!) the Germans and some Dutch are perceived.

Again the black South Africans one comes across indeed like a lot of Black Africans have a very happy go lucky attitude and I think the tragedy of South Africa was that it was a geo-political experiment that went wrong and in man's evolution was introduced at a time when the world had clearly moved on.

I think today of all days with the funeral of Muhammad Ali takes place a guy who in the end all colours and all faiths grew to like and admire just shows what can be achieved if we can put aside colour and frankly religion and accept we are people. IMHO it is not so much about colour (which unless you are Michael Jackson) you can't do a lot about, but about culture and mindset. India for example has a hell of a lot of prejudice (caste system) yet unless you watch a documentary one never hears about it it. However if in a society someone white was to treat an Indian such as they treat some of their own....

Hey ho, this was a post about a Black guy who attended a footie much not racial divides and tensions, so I'll go back on track. :)

Theres loads of different coloured people in the familly stand were all blades arent we i see people as red or blue

It's still quite rare to see non white faces at Bramall Lane despite that fact that Sheffield has become far more multi-cultural than it ever was in the 70's when racism was rife on every football terrace.
I've noticed this in the abstract. It's a curious anomaly to be sure. The stereotypical answer would be that those non-white people - in Sheffield typically of Caribbean or East-Asian origin - are possibly more interested in cricket as that's what their dads and granddads watched. As there are many "ethnic minority" families which are easily 3rd or 4th generation British, it might start to change, but who knows?

The important thing is that it's not the club, or the fans, or the atmosphere, or anything else like that keeping *ANYONE* - be they white, non-white, female, gay, transsexual, what-fucking-ever - from attending. If it's simply a choice that people don't want to come because it isn't their thing, then fair enough. If they have an out-of-date opinion about the match-day experience, such as being terrified of thugs and hooliganism, then all we can do is tell them that isn't true in the main and hasn't been for some time, and encourage them to judge for themselves. I don't believe there is anything the club says or does to imply anyone at all wouldn't be welcome.

I think the 'stereotypical view' is, in the main, incorrect. The reason many non white people of my generation didn't go (those who are now parents and grandparents) is because of the racism of the 70s and 80s.

Two reasons in Bert's opinion why they didn't go. Racism and the fact that the countries where they originated from did not have a footballing culture.

Well, I was the first to mention it. Anyone who knows me will tell you I am far from politically correct. I was not offended on behalf of myself or anyone else and my response to Blade in Spain was not intended to suggest that I was. It was a factual observation which he may have found helpful, I don't know.

Not havin a dig at you mate ...... just updating BIS on the situation over here in UK ...... ;)

It does get tiresome though having to pick your words .......

Er ..... no. Its banter!

However, this view will not be shared by the PC brigade in the UK, who will without doubt , want you to be "labelled" with some variety of "ist" word .....

That's what I was getting at, although reading it again I can see where I missed a bit out. The racism which has hopefully been all-but extinguished on the terraces at the Lane - or at least I'd hope it has! - is what I meant by the second paragraph.

If I call you a racist wouldn't that be "banter"?

Indeed that would be banter, although I would deem it to be an inaccurate statement .... and you will have to work much harder than that if you're wanting to offend me ......

You can call me whatever you want, because sticks and stones may break my bones but calling names won't hurt me.

I have broad shoulders mate ;)

That's fine then, just seems to me that if you are offensive to someone else and call it "banter", you can't really complain if someone else calls you a racist and says it is "banter".

This whole idea of "banter" of excusing anything offensive is political incorrectness gone mad.

That's fine with me mate .... call me whatever you like ...... I'm not fussed.

Offensiveness covers a spectrum of "biblical" proportions and if you wanted to go through life without ever offending anybody, then you would have to take a vow of silence and lock yourself in a darkened room.

So many people get offended on behalf of other individuals / groups these days and it's become really tiresome for most ordinary, normal people who are just fed up with it.

We all have our own "line in the sand" and as I said earlier in the thread to BIS ....... " my acid test personally; as long as I know I haven't set out to offend anybody ........ then fuck em if they're offended !! :D If I intend to offend anyone ...... then they'll fu**ing well know it "

I'm not the sort of person who goes around deliberately trying to offend anybody ...... life's too short for that sort of shit !!

Other than fucking deluded, arrogant piggy bastards of course ;)

To me it's just common decency. If you know something is offensive to someone and there is no overriding reason why you have to do it, then don't do it What gets on my tits specifically is the sort of person who takes a pride in being "politically incorrect" (otherwise known as gratuitously offensive) and then goes into a hissy fit if someone calls them something (like "racist") that they find offensive.

It turns out you are not one of such people. Well done :-)

What's not helping Spurs in that regard?
