Please not Southgate!

Didn't think about that. I'd love Southgate to be honest and could maybe see it. He'd certainly be up for the challenge and wanting to prove some people wrong. Always speaks very well about the game.

I think Southgate will become a good English manager. I just don't know if I want to risk him learning at United. Funny really because I wouldn't mind Shearer even though he has less experience. Hmmm one to ponder.

I think theres some truth in this.

Shearer & Speed would be a good team IMO.

i'm getting more and more skeptical. One Newspaper report about Shearer and one poster with 'insider info'. Then the whole Birch/Takeover talk. It's all a lot, 'a reliable source said' type stuff.

I think if people have some info they really should say exactly what they've been told, or just keep schtum. I think the ones that actually do get inside info, do keep quiet.

I'm not saying these guys who have posted these rumours are not legible by the way, they may well be right, just to make that clear before i get lambasted!

That is very true :)

You say too much, then they know who it's come from, and your job is worth more than gossip to strangers. Plus when you have proof and you show that proof, you are pretty much deemed untrustworthy.

On the Blackwell note, management know what they want and who they don't want. I've said it before, it's a comfy place in championship and investors like profit.

I wish i was one of the ones in the know, or at least knew someone who was!

Trying to read between the lines there but its too late and i can't!!

i fink this will be great blackwell out shearer in.imagin Shearer could make a name for his self as a manager with united :-) . Hope this is true

Couldn't agree anymore.

If anyone was going to replace Blackwell I would like to see Southgate take the seat instead of Shearer, fo' sho!

Curbishley?

What about Curbishley? He knows how to get a championship team into the Premier and keep them up there. He also can work with a tight budget as shown with Charlton. Would rather have him than any of the others mentioned. Would rather give Gary Speed a go and see what happens - short term

Southgate will be a good manager. but not in England. His style of management would be more suited to abroad i think.

V unsure about Curbishley. His time at Charlton in the Championship was a very very long time ago. I think if things didn't go very well for him very early on it would fall apart, not helped by the WHU/Southern links.

I think he'd have to really try and win over the fans in a similiar fashion to how Bassett did, not just breeze in here.

is this Shearer rumour just made up or what?

I've stuck by Blackwell and i'm sure he'll turn us around but i'm also quite excited by the prospect of Shearer. That would mean we've got a big transfer kitty come January as he wont come for nothing. Just hope he spends it well.

We need a solid centre half. A good keeper (maybe on loan) and still that creative midfielder.

Also think shearer could turn Evans & maybe Sharp into quality strikers.

FYI http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...-Blackwell-as-Blades-boss-article235591.html?

New Sheffield United chief executive Trevor Birch has rubbished reports that Kevin Blackwell is on his bike and will be replaced by Alan Shearer as Blades boss.

Blackwell,50, has come under fire from Bramall Lane fans after United's alarming tumble down the Championship table.

The Blades, who have been hit by a crippling injury crisis, picked up their first win in nine games with a 1-0 triumph over rock-bottom Peterborough eight days ago.

And former Newcastle and England skipper Shearer, 39, is in the hunt for another manager's job after his stint in the Toon hot-seat last season.

But Birch, 51, made it clear that Blackwell is staying put and will NOT be replaced by the St.James' Park legend.

The former Chelsea, Leeds, Everton and Derby chief executive, who worked with Blackwell during his stint as Elland Road boss, declared:"I rate Kevin as a manager very highly.

"We have worked together before, and I know him to be an extremely hard worker and well organised.

"I think he was extremely unlucky at Leeds, and also here with injuries this season.

"He has not got the tools he needs in terms of player fitness, but I am sure he will sort things out."

Blackwell, who succeeded the sacked Bryan Robson in the Bramall Lane hot-seat 21 months ago, guided United to the play-off final at Wembley last May where they agonisingly missed out to Burnley.

He also steered Leeds to the Championship play-off final three years ago, but they were beaten 3-0 by Watford and, four months later, he was axed after two years in charge.

But Birch confirmed:"Kevin, the chairman Kevin McCabe and I will be planning a strategy for what we can do in January with regard to player recruitment.

"Although I shall be dealing with the off-field side of transfers and contracts, the manager will make the decisions on the players he wants."

Interesting that the headline says "Sheffield United chief rubbishes reports Alan Shearer will replace Kevin Blackwell as Blades boss". When there isn't a single quote from anyone in the article that says that.

Those comments they quoted were from when he was interviewed in the press conference so they are nothing new.
