Bruce did well for us. No doubt had his head filled with talk of investment and the like only to find a fire sale like no other. Also ended up with two masters - Colombotti and McD - both telling him different things.

No surprise he walked, he owed us nothing.
 
Agree Raul ,he was a shit player but a good manager with Deehan ,it was a lot more entertaining than it is now.
 
Agree with Ted D. Not quite sure what Shearer has to offer other than he used to be a good striker. If we are seriously going for a new manager and going to invest let's get someone who is proven in the job. As of today we've got a club on sound financial footings. Let's not throw that away unless we have some guarantee of rich pickings through promotion.

Shearer's strength/optimism/leadership qualities did nothing for him at Newcastle. It could be Martin Peters all over again.

Like Mark Hughes was a good striker? Like Steve Bruce was a good defender? Like Jose Mourinho was a good interpreter?

As a player Shearer was determined, hugely professional and single minded - on the face of it not bad characteristics for a manager but all the times I have seen him attempting to analyse matches as a pundit he has seemed out of his depth. Yes he'll get media time and raise the profile of the club but what makes him a better bet than Gary Speed?

Wouldn't suprise me if Speed will end up as number 2. They played together for quite a while at Newcastle
 
If Mr Personality did come in, I hope to god he wouldn't coach the strikers to play like he did.

We'd end up with 9-men every week.

I can only think of one thing that would be good if we had shearer.
If we beat the pigs at the sty, shearer celebration, arm in the air, all way down the touchline to the blade fans....

I'm not saying he was a poor striker, he clearly wasn't....

I'm saying he was a dirty sod, that very very often got away with murder purely because of who he was.

Every single little trick in the book he used. A few shocking instances against the blades too, which were all laughed off.

From what I hear our next manger could well be another former Premier League player currently out of work. The chap in question will likely end up with us, Reading or Ipswich.

I know that you are inferring to his discipline here Foxy but taken at face value this is perhaps the most ridiculous statement i have ever read.

I think that Roy Keane was a dirty player too but i sure would like someone to coach Monty to play like him; warts and all.

I'm picking on purely the cynical cheating part of his game, rather the the rest of it :D

Hendo gets enough unfair attention from refs already, imagine if he used the elbows and sly kicks as much as Shearer did?

Then again, in Shearer, we'd have our own ref in our dugout :)
