Following "Hug-gate" that has run on here for the last few weeks, people have questionned how genuine Blackie is towards other managers.

Now this comes out, final proof (if it is needed) that Blackie talks absolute shite to the media. Can we ever believe him again when he has publicly stated taht Brian Laws has been an "excellent ambassador for Sheffield"?

From teamtalk

Blackwell backing for Laws
Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell is convinced Brian Laws will steer Sheffield Wednesday away from a relegation dogfight this season.

Laws is under mounting pressure at Hillsborough after a run of seven league games without a win has left his side fourth-from-bottom in the table, one point off the drop zone.

Blackwell said: "I have the utmost respect for Brian as a man and a manager, working at a club that has struggled financially for a number of years.

"Sometimes things conspire against a manager that he has no control over and he has to work with what he has. When results suffer it doesn't make him a bad manager overnight.

"Most managers have been in the same position where they need results to turn for them and I think he's big enough and able enough to get through it.

"As an ambassador for Sheffield Wednesday and the city of Sheffield Brian Laws has been excellent."

I can't see much wrong in that myself. Whatever he thinks, he's hardly going to come out and say "Well, Brian's always been a bit of a tosser really" is he?

I know some people on hear have a massive hatred for Blackwell, but some on, this thread really is taking it to new depths!

I don't see the problem, he was probably asked a question about Laws and has acted professionally by giving him some backing instead of the sticking the boot in.

Anything Blackwell says won't make the slightest bit of difference to what happens to Laws. I'm interested to know what you think he should have said?

In all honesty i think Laws has done a very good job at them. He's just having a sticky patch and is struggling to get wins.

In the 5 home defeats they've had i think they were expected to lose 4 of them - Boro, QPR, Preston (When they were flying) & WBA.

Fortunately for us blades Wednesday haven't got any money cos if they could flex their muscles in the transfer market then i think we would have a serious contender for top team in Sheffield (in terms of league position.)

I think Laws has done well managing on the shoestring that he's got, when was the last time they spent over £1m? We've signed players over recent times for £1, 2, 3 & even 4m. Wonder how Laws would've done given that sort of money...... And that's the only compliment i will pay towards the S6 club.

Great to see it took 5 threads for someone to realise I was taking the mickey

He might well have got them promoted. Who knows? The first season Warnock was backed with cash he got us up.

But it's a lot easier to spend money effectively on a club which is looking up than on one on a downer.

Steadyon there Mattb.. you'll be praising them for their financial management soon.:D

i think laws has probably done as well as can be expected given what he's got to play with which is a terrible side with no money a shit ground and dickhead fans.

The fact that Strafford is literally all over the place making comments about the fans, the team, the players, the management and investment on facebook, on owlstalk, in the papers and anywhere else he likes to see his name every other day must make his job harder too.

That said I really do feel you need to have seen the way they've been playing week in week out, his tactical decisions and his ability to motivate to make a sound judgement and for many of us with an aversion to anything blue and white I'm guessing we have a handful of watched games a year to go by along with whatever any Pig fans might mention at work... I also have a weird ability to stop listening as soon as this happens though.

It always annoys me when neutrals talk about the blades without spending any effort whatsoever to get to know what things are like on the ground or at least on the pitch during games. Robson was an important example with many pundits opting for the idea that he was great, wasn't getting enough patience/love from the crowd and suggesting it was because our team couldn't play the total football he was used to/would like us to play. In realiy he was a prick who signed a few decent players for massive money but didn't have the first clue how to get them playing.

It also always makes me laugh when people talk about us being a tough team who tackle hard and don't give teams a second on the ball when in reality if you take monty out of our side we've only got Morgs and Henderson with any real presence - Morgan has been on his best behaviour for over a year (even thought he'd quietened down the before the Hulme incident) and Henderson can't tackle and gives away a free kick half the time a ball's played near him.

Whether they like one another or not I believe all managers stick together and speak highly of one another if one is rumoured to be getting the sack ,as they know they could be the next to get it!

What sickens me about that from Blackwell is that he is clearly talking about himself, not Laws.

He is trying to make out he is crippled by financial problems himself. He's just been on the radio saying we might not have any defenders at the end of December and beginning of January as if he's not in control of the situation and nowt to do with him.

Blackwell OUT! Please god Trevor get rid of him.

Yes, Blackwell is clearly talking about himself and not Laws. It's well known that Kevin Blackwell not only refers to himself in the third person, but that he also calls himself Brian Laws. Brian = Kevin. Brian Laws = Kevin Blackwell. How everybody apart from you and me hasn't spotted this frankly brilliant masterstroke is beyond me. Kevin must always refer to himself as Brian, and in the third person. His office door even has his name crossed out, and "Brian Laws" written underneath, in pink crayon.

Mrs. Blackwell - "What do you want for tea, Kevin love?"

Kevin Blackwell - "Brian Laws would like pie and mash, with jellied eels and a pint of flat piss-weak beer, please."

Obvious really.

I'm in agreement with micaljo on this one. But, unlike micaljo, I think he's got a point.

When Laws did have money he went and spent £750k on Francis Jeffers, so god alone knows what he'd do with £4m. Perhaps buy a really large turnip...

Spot on Flawed, a considered, professional response by Blackwell.

I don't understand the criticism.

If we all like to see the grunters sink like the Titanic, and we think that the dynamic dude duo are doing a very good job of that, then surely Blackwell making comments that might keep Mrs Laws in charge for a few more months must be a good thing? Or is it just bash Blackwell whatever?

Blackwell only cares about himself - couldn't give a toss about Laws. Nowt wrong with that I suppose but I'm sure he's talking about his career in football management. KB, the great survivor etc etc.

One of the many problems at the moment is McCabe's agenda saying we still have a huge budget in CCC terms contrasts with Blackwell's agenda that he is crippled by financial problems. There is no hope when the men in charge have differing views like this.

Agreed on the last point Micalijo. They both need to be saying the same thing. But if they did then then one agenda would have to go

pains me to say this but what laws has done on a budget of proceedings from bring and buy sales and tesco school vouchers is at the loaves and fishes level
