I wonder if Donovan is going to play a little deeper. Watching him against Bolton and Blackburn, he was on each wing and running across the pitch so might be well suited to the ‘Duffy’ role. Cant see a Cannon/BBD top two working.

But any other set up just looks mad in different places. McCallum in midfield or Tanganga at RB with Choudry pushed up?

Who knows. So unbalanced.

I’d hazard a guess that it’s this too but just highlights how we can’t actually play this system without Seriki. Doherty not a wing back at this stage of his career and Hamza doesn’t even look like he knows how to play football at the moment. Really hoping it’s fitness related and he improves tonight.

I hope this means Diaz is upfront. The position he played for us in the Premier and played well and scored goals. But I suspect it might be a bit of the two inside forwards with him and Donovan, similar to how Heckingottom often set up. Having them both press hard seemed to be to that working.

Hard to tell.

If it’s a five at the back it could conceivably by Donovan at RWB though I hope not, and Choudhury in CM.

Exciting times eh?

But by being desperate to sign Ayew it would seem odd to leave no spot for him. Assuming he’s supposed to share the load with BBD, and there are 2 other strikers on the bench I’d expect some sort of three up top.

5-2-3 does not address the lack of protection midfield gives though I suppose if you are playing a third centre back you’re hoping that’s where it comes from.

Could even be 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 with either Donovan as a 10 or him and BBD as two 10s though I hate the idea of Cannon up top on his own.

Donovan was very good against them. You’d hope he played a similar role today.
