so this could be 2 in 2 for Adkins "old guard" (or ex scunny players)

for all the stick Clough got about bringing in players he had previously worked with and the fan fare or how wonderful Adkins was when he arrived (a man who knew what he was doing etc.) I wonder if the stick Clough got about bringing in a relatively small number of ex players (6 in a total of 22 signings I believe, which is just over 25%) was a little misplaced. as can be seen all managers bring in players they have previously worked with (Cook has pinched players from Chesterfield to go to Pompey for example)

also did anyone else see a strange similarity in how he described Woolford.... I could have played an interview from Clough and changed one of his signings to Woolford....

I am not saying I dont like Adkins... just showing that all the so called "bad points" people pointed out with Clough, Adkins is doing very similar things....

Billy Sharp is one of a long list of players who have performed well elsewhere but not done the business for us, due to their style not fitting in with the managers' tactics or whatever. I for one have high hopes that Sharp will flourish under Adkins, who knows his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone.

Good point. Leon Brittan and Nathan Dyer (among others) show what can be done under a decent manager.

In Nigel We Trust.

Er, that's Adkins. Not the other one.

Name me one striker with as good or better record than Sharp that would be willing to sign for us.

Every other League One club's fans would be cumming their pants at the possibility of signing Sharp.

Given that he's just signed for Wigan I would guess that Will Grigg would have joined us given the chance - at 24 and more prolific than Sharp over the last few seasons. I'd say he was the better option of the 2.

Wouldn't it be nice if for one season we trusted a manager to do the job he's obviously good at instead of pretending we know more about it than him?
Seems fair to me

Do you think during the second season, when it turns out they are clealy shit, they will admit we do know more about it than them

I wouldnt count on that. Would you say we are more appealing than Doncaster? Andy Williams signed for them as preference to us, despite confirming our approach.

Wasn't Williams caught in the fallout of Clough's dismissal? I suspect that would have had a huge effect on his decision about who to sign for. Clough will have sold the club and it's ambitions, but once he was no longer manager, well, who can blame Williams for reconsidering?

From what I heard, Williams signed for Donny because they offered an additional year (3 as opposed to the 2 Utd offered). Can't say I'm overly disappointed we missed out on him to be honest.

In talks with Leeds for Sharp, if that's the extent of our managers ambitions then we're in deep shit.
One of the worst players I have seen wearing the Blades Shirt. There has got to be better out there than Sharp for the same cash surely. I suppose it was inevitable with Adkins in charge..............
Onwards and upwards hopefully!!!

Don't know if you noticed but we already knew.

Regards Williams, yes there may have been other factors involved. My point really is that we have been in leagie one for half a decade and may not be as attractive a pull anymore aspeople like to think.

Well at the time I posted Grigg is a Wigan player so not an option, but I take your point we could have gone for him (assuming we didn't).

It's a bit unfair to compare the 2 records because Grigg hasn't played in the Championship. Plus 25 league goals in two promotion seasons isn't really that special. If Grigg is so good why didn't MK Dons sign him? Surely if he was so great he'd be playing in the championship next season.

Adkins knows nowt. Remember that complete duffer he signed for Southampton in League One? French guy. Rob Schneiderlin or something. He was pants!

Were you one of the people who groaned when we signed Neil Shipperley and booed Richard Cresswell when he was warming up to come on for his debut?

Not seen many players then Gee?

Nope. He's too busy polishing his Leeds winners medal from last night's game

Is that like the winners medals they give at school sports these days where even the fat lad who finished the 100m the day after gets one?

OT: I would like to see him not sign for the sole reason of watching several people literally implode with the power of their own importance.

See where you're coming from Alien but I see the difference being that Adkins has had success with these players elsewhere whereas Clough didn't with his.

Talks are currently on hold due to a situation at Leeds where certain circumstances have to come in to play prior to them restarting.

Ah, the old cryptic post game eh Pierre? You ITK 'er you.

Think plenty trusted Clough at the start of last season but when he sold Maguire and fell out with Butler and Collins and replaced them with a collection of full backs, midfield players and young 'uns that were either out of their depth or injury prone, then I think that trust suddenly disappeared.

Which tells us precisely nothing. You may as well add "at this time" for good measure.

Given how we need a new defender, perhaps we should look to non-league for inspiration. This guy is on trial for Gainsborough Trinity - ex Blade youngster Dominic Roma replaced him in a friendly this week against Lincoln.

I'd give you some more info about him, but all Google searches seem to be clogged up with some other guy with the same name. Maybe we should just sign him and find out.
