My understanding is the fee would have to be offset against the length of the contract so the SCMP would still be in affect. Agents fees do come into play as well.

I can't find anything to corroborate that.

It may be over the weekend sometime but I have at home the detail of what makes up what can be classed as revenue and what costs are included for the 60%. I will see if I can find it.

Cheers, there's very little information on the Football league website, or anywhere else.

I was wrong - signing on fees are included in the year that they are paid. Interesting article here from Carlisle United website in three parts that explains it all in detail.

So the remainder of your players make up the total amount of player wages in the calculation you make? Yes, and they are placed under the ‘Contract Players’ section of the SCMP form. As part of the submission you have to include their contract start and end date, salary, signing on fee, forecasted appearance fees, associated bonus payments and any relocation fees they receive. Other player sections to be considered as part of the overall calculation are non-contract players, loan players and players on month-to-month contracts.

I will have a look for the file that I have over the weekend, though

Ok, so my theory is utter bollocks then :)

If we sign another striker in this window it should be one with very good pace, and it would be a bonus if he could play on the wing as well.

Why dont you stop asking me stupid questions about what i can and cant prove ? You know i cant prove anything but im not the club fucking accountant
I am a fan on a football forum and i dont have to provide evidence to have an opinion so stop asking me to do things you know i cant. just as you cant provide evidence we are not a selling club who are building a squad on the cheap

Best reply. Ever!

Sometimes people just to let those posters who are 'instantly responsive' time to vent their spleen. I admit to being one of these at times but we get jumped on by people and it just escalates!

Think last has always been my motto!

According to a kid at work today, he has heard that he is going for a medical at Leeds today along with the young centre half from Chesterfield.

Bet the fee is well out of our price range

As I've said many, many times, our ability to sign Billy Sharp was restricted by the league we are in.

He simply hasn't wanted to drop to League One and before people say he'd have jumped at the opportunity as he's a Blade, no, he wouldn't and didn't. This may have changed the longer he wasn't playing and unhappy, but has remained constant for a while now.

In terms of money, Leeds will be at the very least paying up his Southampton contract (they are also supposed to have offered a decent amount as a transfer fee), as he'd have lost substantial "loyalty" payments by asking for a transfer. He didn't want to lose those. He'll have also taken a decent pay cut I'd imagine, as he was on a decent whack at the Saints.

Yeah but where's our ambition ;)
