Billy Needs A Goal

Sharp will be 3rd top scorer behind Adams and Sammon. Just feel like he hasn't fully adjusted to the team yet. Scored a quality goal in pre-season which gave me hope, and i'm not losing that faith

I disagree with you, I don't think Billy Sharp needs to do anything more than he is doing at the minute and the goals will naturally arrive.

Billy ain't a young lad any more, with his experience will be an understanding that the most important thing is to perform well as an individual and as a team and to take three points from games. He has put in a shift in every game he has played so far and has been right in the thick of it all. He doesn't need to panic because past experience will tell him to just carry on doing what he is doing and the opening will come.

I don't think he has any issues with his confidence either.

amazing how people still think forwards need goals, i'd be perfectly happy if he doesn't score all season if his contributions allow us to get promoted

06-07 Beattie got 20+ and ched did too in 11-12. The promotion to prem season we didnt have a striker who got anywhere near 20

Totally agree. As long as our combined play leads to the ball rolling between those sticks, there shouldn't be such emphasis about who gets the final touch. It's a team effort, and the only stat worth considering is whether we score more goals than the opposition. If we do, it doesn't matter who gets them.

Billy Sharp should be under no pressure at all to get off the mark. If he's in a situation where he could shoot from a tight angle or pass to a teammate in a better position, he should be under no pressure to shoot to "open his account".

Goals per season is an overrated stat. You need to look at assists and overall contribution. Remember Tony Agana? Remembered fondly as a great forward. He didn't score many but set up countless goals. I'd be quite happy seeing Sharp running through defences then laying the ball back for someone else to have a pop.

Im really not convinced he's any quicker. Remember when Ched dropped to league one, he looked like he was much faster. I suspect its just the slouches in this league making him appear faster. As for goals, I would not panic yet. He's playing well and as an experienced striker, I'm sure he's confident the goals will come in time.

His movement is better, so is generally 1 step ahead of the opposition. I think that is what appears to make him a 'yard quicker'. Certainly a lot better player than I remember last time

Agana's scoring record was pretty good for the blades - less than a 1 in 3 goals per game ratio - not bad

Agree, he's looked fantastic in the games I've seen. It's a long season and Sammon looking a real handful I'm sure that between them they will score if we carry on creating chances.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
We have the best strike force in the world
Connor Sammon and Che
Billy Sharp and Jose
And Diego De Girolamoooooo!

Excellent stuff

Doesn't fit for me that (not that I'm overly fussed:D)

Follow follow follow,
Sheff United's the team to follow,
We've got Connor Sammon,
Sharp & Adams,
& Diego De Girolamoooo

That scans better, each to their own though!

As for Billy, no need to worry as others have said if he keeps creating 'em & playing how he is doing I've no doubt the goals will come. He's experienced enough now to not let it affect him. Keep plugging 'em Billy, won't be long...

I'm not saying he hasn't been brilliant, because it's fair to say he has. If it wasn't for the brace from Che and Connor he'd have been MOM in both games for me. He knows exactly how to manipulate the defenders, drag them out and open space for the other players - can see why Nigel was so keen to get him on board now.

We just all know how badly he wants to get on the scoresheet, think it's important for him that he gets one in front of the kop soon or that confidence and exuberance could dry up.

The crowd would go into absolute pandimonium if Billy got the first on saturday.

And it was better than that before injuries took the edge off. Indeed for a direct comparison I think he scored about 24 goals when we were promoted from the third.

Posted by mistake there. Shoudl have said followed by the whole ground giving a chorus of

"nanananananananana, We've got Billy Sharp Billy Sharp, We've go Billy Sharp.
