Big Scary Leeds

I have said for a while we can win the title. Everyone is talking about Burnley and The European Champions elect whilst we just quietly keep winning games.

I love that the media darlings were live on terrestrial TV so the pundits could fawn and drool over them as they brushed Pompey aside in their charge to the title. Worked out well, the bottle jobs from West Yorkshire f*cked it up again! 🤣

Said for ages they’ll bottle it as usual in March…

Portsmouth is a very tough place to go when the crowd gets behind them. A fantastic old school stadium and great support.

I thought they were worthy winners against Leeds today. Took it to them and didn't sit back at 1-0.

Definitely a bit of complacency has set in with Leeds after beating ourselves and Sunderland.
Whilst I still fancy them for the title, it's great to see them wobble and it's opened right back up.

The Hull game was probably a bridge to far at the time.
The QPR home game could still be the most costly come the end of the season.
2-0 up at home against an average mid table championship side.
We should still have had enough to get a win though, we put a decent team out against them and they were absolutely awful that night.

This is a knock on effect from our very, very best eleven basically doing just enough to scrape wins, anything other than our very, very best eleven by nature is going to struggle.

When was the last game you went to?

QPR we're relegation fodder at the time. Tragic loss of 2 points that.
Relegation fodder?

It was the first bloody home game of the season with a much changed side and numerous players that had only just learnt each others names, never mind understand each others games.

Some people have ridiculous expectations.

Heard a little of 5live after man u game, talking about Leeds losing but still top on goal difference and that Burnley only 2 points behind them. Never mentioned us at all. Really hope we can beat them to 1st place just to see the reaction amongst media

Yep... I listened most of the afternoon to the live commentaries on 5Live. No mention of Leeds result at any point. Almost as though they hadn't played. This love in with the Dirties pisses me off... but the Pompey fans must be rightly pissed off that their cracking result didn't merit even so much as a mention in between cricket, rugby, women's FA Cup and the Man Utd game later in the day.

Anyway... Fuck Leeds. Fuck Burnley. Let's go and win the title!!!!!

In some people's heads they think we have a divine right to beat any team we're better than on paper.

Not one team that gets promoted or wins leagues goes without the odd slip ups.

Its the totality of a teams performances over a long season that matters. Obsessing about one game that is gone and forgotten is a pointless exercise. Bars hit, chances missed, saves made, its called football so just enjoy the ride.

Coventry cant keep that run going - 9 wins out of 10 - and are surely due a dip in form. They have some really hard games coming up as well.

however they are our bogey team so I wouldn't look forward to playing them in the play offs.
Really? We have a good recent record against them. Including the jay assault game.

Coventry have conceded 4 in 2 games against basement dwellers Stoke and Oxford

If they keep having to score 3 to win then their luck will run out very soon.

I watched the game yesterday. Portsmouth played well but Leeds had by far the best chances, and on another day would have won 3-1. Pompey keeper was superb. If Leeds continue to play like that they'll win most of their games. Over 90 minutes they always seem to create more clear-cut chances than other teams, including us. I can see why they are favourites. It would be brilliant if they dropped into the play offs but I can't see it happening.

“Sheffield United came out of nowhere to pip favourites Leeds.”

When in reality, with the points taken away at the end instead of the beginning, we’ve probably been above them for longer than they have been above us.

Still, let them have the pressure of the favourites tag. One they tend to crumble on. No issue us being the plucky unseen team who ends up first part the post.

I really reckon Wilder is using this as extra motivation.

We’ve been saying it all season, and it’s not exactly a surprise, but the -2 is looking like it’s going to be exactly at problematic as first feared.
It's not problematic. It's not a points deduction that's yet to be decided. We know exactly where we are and how many points we have. The fact that we started on -2 not relevant now.

Okay if we miss out on promotion by a single point (can't miss out by 2 due to gd) we can have a go at PA for his late payments. But there's no point in considering this scenario until it happens. We can't change where we are.

It's also a justified deduction. It's shit but we've paid a price and may have to take responsibility for our own actions. That whole club however would do well to remember we've collected the most points in the league. Again, it's our own fault but that doesn't change that we've technically got 2 points more than Leeds.

If I'm honest I prefer the limelight on Leeds and Burnley. Leave the media to pull themselves off over them and we'll quietly work our way towards promotion. As you say it's not mattering yet and if it does bite us in the arse then, well, that's life.

I also don't think we should be looking at teams around us for points, personally I'd like us to go out get all the points we can so we don't rely on any other teams dropping points. Obviously it's lovely to see Leeds dropping but it's better for us to be in charge of our own destiny.

This article aged well.

"Daniel Farke's side are now five points ahead of Sheffield United, who are in the other automatic promotion place, and seven in front of third-placed Burnley"

Make that 0 and 2 points in front of SUFC and Burnley 😂 😂 😂

Of course it’s problematic as it means we have 2 points fewer than we’ve actually accrued 🤷🏽‍♂️
