Big Scary Leeds

Leeds fans are very similar to Wednesday fans. The only difference is Wednesday haven't won anything of note bar '91 whereas Leeds have.

In terms of quality Leeds have the strongest squad in my view. They spent just short of £30m in the summer of 2023 and they spent another £25m this summer. Yes, they've sold players but their squad remains the strongest in the league. However they have Daniel Fake in charge, we have Wilder and Knill. I know who I'd prefer.

Remember back in the first season we and Norwich were in the PL and how we excelled and Norwich failed miserably. They relied on three very strong players whereas we had a team full of quality of a similar standard.

At Leeds Farke has a team full of quality but he still tries to win games by out passing the opposition. I read a comment from a Leeds fan that I really noted. It said in reference to our goal last night that Leeds would never score a goal like that because they'd have tried seven passes first!

Wilder knows how to get results at places like Millwall, Leeds under Farke haven't thus far done this consistently.

I'll say this again. We have the BEST manager in this league. The best manager we've had in my time, bar possibly Bassett. The team Wilder has assembled this summer for very little is incredible. Last time he did it we had the momentum from league One and the quality we had from that core. This summer he had to sign over half a team . Souttar and O'Hare have proved absolute masterstrokes.

Bogle suits Leeds play but I notice Leeds fans are on his back regularly. That's another problem with Leeds: they demand success and rightly so fir their team that's cost over £100m!

If we keep doing this, leeds play earlier go top and we then get the result to go back above them, it will play on them mentally.

They will start thinking no matter what we do the blades always go back above us and could cause them to lose a couple of games they shouldnt
Leeds will inevitably start to bottle it in March anyway.

Leeds will win this league by 10 points

Well they’re trailing at the moment, and we’re nearly half way through the season.

If they’re going to win the league by 10 points they’ll have to have an impeccable second half to the season, and several others, including us, will all have to implode relative to performance so far.

Can’t see it, myself.

I don’t think they’re any better than us.

We played them and Boro on the week we lost George and had a couple of key suspensions.

I do think they’ve perhaps got a little more balance to their squad. We’ve got some great individuals who were bought to play a mix of different systems.

Hamer is an excellent player at our level, however he wants to come central and be in the thick of things so we’re relying on burrows getting up and down the left to give us any width on that side

We’ve got the opposite on the right hand side. We’ve got a natural winger, who’s playing in front of a centre back playing right back. I really like Gilchrist, he’s a proper United type player. But he’s a stay at home right back which often leaves Rak Sakyi doubled up on and out the game. Gilchrist being a stay at home right back had undoubtedly contributed to our clean sheets though as when burrows bombs forward Gilchrist often slots into more of a back 3. So it’s probably cost us in the goals for column but saved a few in the goals against column.

We’re transitioning from a team who played with no natural width for years to a team who wants to mix it up out wide or pass through the middle.

Leeds appear to have a few more options out wide which offers them that balance and seems to contribute to their reputation for being really fast flowing in attack.

I just think wilder got his tactics way off vs Leeds and I think he knows that himself, he went to try and do what he did there last time and vs wba (promotion season) pretty much defend well and hopefully nick a goal.

It nearly worked out to gain a point but it didn't this time and made looked woeful on the eye and us a bit silly as a team. if we had gone there and played our own game then I think nit may have been a different outcome, but who knows.

I agree that George's death could have played a part and been on the minds of the players, but it could also be like Greece and galvanise the team and spur them on.

We do that at pretty much every single away game, defend superbly, do very little else and a bit of quality generally gets us the win. The difference is leeds are a far far better team than almost everyone so they beat us.

Expect a few of Leeds best players to go in JTW. The lure of big money will hopefully be enough to take them away and weaken them for the rest of the season. Not itk just a feeling.

Doesn’t bother me, at this stage I think we will finish 2nd so I’d be delighted

However I do think Leeds are significantly better than us overall (and therefore also the rest of the league)
They are playing very well. Come March and April next year they will drop off again.

Very little between the 2 first 11's IMO but Leeds have far better options off the bench in wide forward areas. If we can strengthen in January and keep our main players fit it will be close.

More aggressive than us. I’d like us to be as relentless as them going forward. Feel we feel teams out a bit too much. Disappointed in how we approached them and Middlesbrough. Shouldn’t fear anyone in this league.

Not sure if good or bad thing as I don’t think we’ve gone up the gears like them. Can’t think of a game where we haven’t gone out of 2nd gear except Bristol City away and we won.

Of course they will

Don't answer the pig mate, what a tosser!

There is more to it than just having, on paper’ the best players. We gave them a 2 point head start and now after half the season we are ahead of them. Maybe we have the better manager, a better team spirit, better tactics, less pressure, more desire. All these things weigh in, otherwise why aren’t they streets ahead of us with their supposedly better, more expensive players.
We are too quick to play down our team and boost our closest rivals. It’s no fluke that we are where we are. We deserve it

It’s simple to me, they have a better attacking team but we are better defensively, so their is very little between the teams.

I don’t think there will be very many points between us come the end of the season.

When you say you know who you would prefer between wilder and knill and farke who is it ? Farke that won the championship title twice in 4 years at Norwich with 1 premier League relegation, and just lost out last season in playoffs with Leeds and has them 2nd this season, or wilder and knill because it's not obvious from the stats or blades bias , farke is a very very good manager at this level let's not forget that

To expand on that, here's the separated home and away stats for each side (Note that this data does not incorporate our points deduction).

I do think Leeds are the best team in the division. Farke is playing to their strengths, and implementing a "the best defence is a good offence" mentality. This works simply due to the absurd level of quality and depth they have in forward areas, which almost nobody else, ourselves included, can compete with. Despite a number of sales they made in the summer, they still have the likes of Gnonto, Dan James, Piroe, Aaronson in the squad, plus players like Solomon in on loan to bolster that front line further.

I don't think they're infallible though, and their league performance so far proves it. While we didn't perform well there, Burnley were able to go and win at Elland Road. They've also lost at Millwall and Blackburn, which as of last night, are both venues we have won at already this year. I also took note of their 3-3 draw with Portsmouth on the opening day of the season.

I think they'll have moments throughout the season, where their forwards just don't get it together for some reason, and those moments are what we need to take advantage of if we want to get promoted.
This shows that we are the best team in the division, we have also played Leeds, WBA, Blackburn and Boro away. Only Sunderland out of the top 7 have been to the Lane.
