Nah, Sunderland is yet another club where - like Moyes - he's been found out as utterly useless with a win % of 29. You'd like to think that the pool of fucking crap managers would eventually dry out, but no chance. Allardyce got the 'big job' as England manager but lost it after just one game because he's fucking corrupt.

The title of this thread should have been 'Big Sam, could he do a job on us?'. He'd waste a fortune, get found out and depart with his usual massive pay-off. He should be doing time.

His job wasnt to get a good win percentage, it was to keep them up
 
I dunno why Sam he's such a bad rep.
It seems to me that entitled fans such as West Ham, Everton and Newcastle think they're too good for him. That's just snobbishness.

And that's what keeps these people in jobs. Sometimes they manage to scrape out of the relegation zone for another year, but where's the progression? The following season will see them struggling again.

Hodgson is doing similar at Palace. The PL is made up mainly of 'much-of-a-muchness' teams and, if a manager can squeeze an extra 10% out of his team, they'll live to struggle again. Hodgson is lauded as a great manager but, if he's so good, why is Palace his 22nd managerial job? He's utterly reliant on Zaha and, if he was such a good manager, why hasn't he fucked off the useless Benteke? Stay in football management long enough and the 'a stopped clock is right twice a day' syndrome kicks in. That way, foolish clubs keep giving these wasters employment.

So Allardyce 'kept Sunderland up', but how has he achieved much of his (non) success? He had a 100% success rate at England before losing his job for fiddling. Most clubs he's managed, he's left under a cloud. He was at home at West Ham where corruption is par for the course.

He would actually be very good for us, in terms of results and stability. Of course, the football would be terrible. And as if he's gonna drop a tier. Also, good luck paying what I can imagine is his astronomical salary.

Are we talking about Allardyce or Hogson?

You may not see keeping a club up as a an achievement but many do: not all clubs can be at the top and when staying up is worth hundreds of millions, it's important.

Because of the amounts of money involved, it's all about staying in the Premier League and a lot less about how you do it, sadly.

Was spot on what was said earlier, there are clubs that feel their entitled to success based on nothing. Problem with the Premier league is that the top six is a closed shop sav for the odd season. Success for the rest is anything from staying in the division to being a dull middle of the road side.

Many don't see to understand the gap between the top 5/6 and the rest in terms of pulling power. Any success you will have will be taken away from you by the bigger clubs.

The vast majority of reasonably successful teams are based around a core of competent players with 2 or 3 creative/high quality players that make the difference. There is a need for the whole to be be fit, organised and able to defend/exploit set pieces, the manager's skill is to get the players to 'buy into' his idea. Outside five teams in the premier league, the aim of any team is to remain in the league. Crystal Palace were in the shit before RH arrived, and he has used all his skills & the players at his disposal to keep them in the division. His reliance on Zaha isn't at all odd. Zaha is highly paid to play for Palace in the expectation he will turn matches. This season he has finally justified his wage & reputation. We did similar Michael Brown all those years ago, Barca do with Messi, etc. Palace have spent big on Benteke and they needed to persevere with him, also getting hold of an affordable competent replacement mid season is nigh on impossible. Overall RH has been a success, getting 47 points in 36 games. Same goes for SA at Everton. Ask Swansea, Stoke & West Brom about the realities of what they are facing and whether or not it retrospect they wouldn't rather have appointed RH or SA and kept in the prem. Ask the same question of Sunderland.

The sad truth of it is that to play attractive expansive football and be successful, you need to have the best players in the league and be able to fund them. Citeh did it this season and Wolves did it this season, only one of those teams will do it next. For the majority, its about pragmatism. The even sadder truth, is that listening to disgruntled fans about the playing style is wrong for the business model. 5k off the gate in protest of the dour football, means nothing compared to missing out on the £2.4bn swishing around the prem. RH and SA may be a lot of things, but they certainly aren't 'wasters'.

I would respectfully suggest that you are naive if you think that SA is somehow an exception to the virtuous nature of footballers and managers.

Someone else who sees it exactly the same as me.

I've mentioned on another thread, the 2 jobs where SA has had any sort of medium to long term plan, he's had his sides playing very good football. But when his remit is 'to keep a club up', do fans really expect him to be playing lovely flowing football with the shit players he obviously has?

Deluded.

The harsh reality of the matter is, Ronald Koeman will have a far higher reputation than SA and for all the wrong reasons.

The irony is that for what it would cost to get The Fat Butcher (salary & transfer kitty) - Wilder would have a wet dream...

The equation is quite simple: for £5m a year Allardyce keeps you in the PL. Simples. Would be more of a valid point for Cardiff to consider ditching Colin to get Allardyce in...
