20 20 hindsight is always a good thing.. you're good at criticising lenners.. what do you think we should do from this point forward?

Not much hindsight.
Very little we can do. McCabe engineered complete control of the club, the other directors have no power and seemingly have gone along with everything, and fans groups are disorganised or show little awareness of what they're actually dealing with.
Our only hope would be McCabe rediscovering his pride and deciding he was going to get to grips with the club and invest judiciously.
Amidst all the financial shyte surrounding the club, the really sad thing is that this league is so utterly crap that a few bob spent on the right players could quite easily get you in the top six.
It doesn't need QPR or Cardiff spending to get that far.

Er no, the hotel can be bought back at market value. Mr Birch either isn't aware of what's in his own club's accounts or was having a 'confused' day.

But is it Market Value from the date of transfer, or Market Value at the time we choose to buy it back - that isn't too clear to me. If it's Market Value from the original date of transfer, and as Linz said about the inflationary increase, then her point is 100% correct.

We have nothing to cut. Name me 3 players we can get rid of in January? I have a bad feeling we might be giving players away such as Henderson etc;
Henderson, Ward, Quinn,, Cresswell, Kozzy, France. Negotiate the termination of the contracts on the last two. That would free up a bit of money for spending and wages.

You're not honestly thinking we can recover any serious money on:
Henderson - injury prone and indisciplined
Ward - Injury prone and indisciplined
Quinn- Ineffective and lacks consistency
Cresswell - Limited ability, workhorse but knackered

Kozzy and France are not likely to get another gig with any other club so why should they renegotiate ?

Aye, Quinn and Ward are the two that I would have said- both had interest from other teams in the last year. I would have thought they'll wait for Hendo to prove his fitness rather than take a gamble though?

We don't have to recover serious money, it's about clearing the wage bill as much as anything else.

People will take a punt on Hendo, Ward and Quinn unless you are asking for £2 Million each.

Market value is just that. It isn't market value 2010 only.
What is interesting is whether we might have secured more than £1 for the hotel, even with the outstanding debt included, if we'd sold to someone else.
It doesn't appear to have been offered for sale to anyone else.

As long as the Club lives within its means, all external debts, other than those to Kevin McCabe will be clear by 2013.
So how much do we owe McCabe? Does anyone know?

McCabe's company, Forsyth, runs the Blades Enterprise Centre. Anyone know what arrangement this was/is under. Have Forsyth/McCabe made and kept profits from this? If so can we knock it off the money we apparently owe him? Anyone else been given the chance to tender to run it?

Point taken, but in accounting terms, the Market Value used can differ between the original transfer/purchase value, or a revaluation - it all depends how often they get the place revalued I think, but not 100% sure on that one.

Could be worse, we sold a hotel for a £1, across the city a whole club has been sold for the same value :D

Sadly, they're now debt-free and primed to take-off.
Over the last few years our club has continually contended that its 'unique' international business model meant we were attractive to investors.
Now we're told it's a failure and no-one is interested in investing.
Just another reason why fans should be extremely sceptical about what they're told.

It depends whether McCabe actually wants to take this money back or will write it off in the events of an interested party...

I'm sure the detractors will have already made their own minds up about that.

If he writes off that debt, how many millions is he looking for ?

or is he just looking to sail away and leave it in a pair of "safe hands"

You'd hope from all of McCabe's interviews over the years that he'd write off the majority of that, if not all of it!

But you never know in football!

So all those people on here wanting McCabe to write off £20million, how many of you are in a position to do the same.

I guess none of us could write off £20m because, unlike Kev, we aren't worth around £300m. Given his vast wealth & the fact that many of his decisions have resulted in us being in this dire position, I would hope he would at least write the bulk of it off. Many clubs benefit from wealthy backers putting money in and not expecting it back. And to be fair, £20m is loose change to Kev!

I hear what your saying, but you could argue that it was his decisions which have caused us to have a £20m debt to him. It seems he only wants to make us accountable

Just to answer some of the people posting elsewhere who've said they aren't going to make stuff up, then did.

The minutes were prepared by the BIFF secretary and approved by the BIFF Chairman. The first time I saw them was when they were posted on here.

So they were not "touched up" by neither myself nor Foxy as they were not prepared by myself, or Foxy.

And as for this...

The full minutes of the meeting were passed to S2 4SU and appeared in their ammended form on the site.

... absolute bullshit.

Who knows how much McCabe has made through doors opening through United's 'involvement' in China, Hungary, India, Brazil, Australia etc, etc?

So I have just calculated that on paper I am worth about £500K. Could I write off £40K - never in a million years. People do talk tosh with other peoples money (a bit like my mrs actually!)

If you were never going to see that £40k, you could quite easily write it off as a bad job.
McCabe's probably entered Co-op Bank territory.

I hope you haven't told your lass that !!!!

None of us. At the same time, none of us have fucked up Sheffield United.
