Not trying to preach, and perhaps my thoughts on bickering were misplaced - a good healthy discussion should absolutely be encouraged.

But, OTOH, l do think forums and social media ON the whole provides an amplified opportunity for people to hear/see what they want, reduce all arguments down to black or white point's of view and use those absolute positions to argue from. Not everyone distills in this way, and my opening comments failed to pick up on the nuance of a lot of thread discussion, but for sure, it's pay for people to think a touch longer before turning into keyboard warrior number 783,654... My self included.

I think it's a good model and explains the psychology behind a lot of interactions on fora and social media. I think the only naive bit Ron is thinking that you can appeal for change by explaining it. Because the idea of that doesn't fit with the world view of most in this group. So it's destined never to succeed in the first place - ie it's outside the circle as shown clearly in that diagram.
