Bettis Speaks

The threshold for constructive dismissal is exceptionally high, the definition is something along the lines of 'fundamental breach of contract that leaves the employee with no other choice but to resign'.

Theoretically at least, I reckon there's a small chance you'd able to argue that forcing a DoF onto Wilder without agreement changes his job role and creates a breach of contract as a result of an imposed variation to his contract. From this it'd be an even bigger task to argue that any breach of contract left him with no other option but to resign.

With the huge caveat that I know absolutely nothing about what has actually happened, I suspect the board are far more concerned about the confidentiality clauses and agreed statements as part of the agreement rather than any Employment Tribunal claim.
Bringing in a dof, I suspect, would be classed as modernising the club given it's now standard practice in one way or another. Unless he signed a contract which specifically stipulates that it won't happen.

That’s fair ST, you’ll understand the financials better than me. The leaking roof though, as a PL club, it’s so tinpot it’s untrue.

Do you have a feel as to who will pay the loans taking to pay the assets? SUFC?

It was something l read on here, if it’s true it’s pretty disgusting. “Little old Sheffield United” stuff. I remember as a kid being lucky enough to get to tour the ground when we were in the old first division under John Harris. The school changing rooms were better. The treatment table was an old leather thing with big tufts of hair sticking out of the sides. A leaky roof not being repaired properly makes us look tinpot. However, bearing in mind the world situation, the redevelopment of the training facilities shouldn’t be used as a stick to beat the board with. Staying in the PL was a must and we fucked up royally. The blame lies with many people for various reasons, anyone not accepting that is a fool or one of the anti forrins who have come out of their holes.

The accounts will be out in a few weeks, be interesting reading.

As for the loans etc, they’re charged against the clubs assets. But can you imagine if PA had taken the ground into his name and financed it personally? Asset stripper, theif, never put no money in ( already a favourite).

It’s been all over Twitter re: training ground, not just fans but some journalists. Perhaps I’m being unfair in assuming it’s right.

Let’s see on the Accounts. I’ll rely on brighter minds than I to pick them apart! I’m hopeful for good news. It’s been a bad few days.

l’m not disputing any claim. I can’t actually believe it’s not been sorted if true. Wilder should have been telling whoever makes decisions like that to get it sorted and seen Bettis if it wasn’t. They should have only been telling people once.

Because of Covid though, the red herring of no training ground improvements is a frustration, not really a point to make a stand on, unlike the JTW let down.

Don't know..don't give a fuck about other clubs..What's your point?
My point is your slagging the board for not investing their own personal wealth when in reality no owner actually invests their own personal wealth maybe apart from ambramovich. So to start slagging the board about monies when they've actually invested more than any other in recent years is a bit of a pointless exercise.

I ain't slagging em for not investing..just don't make out you are when it's the clubs prize money...I don't expect any investment from now on either he's already said he wants us to be self sufficient...just don't want him borrowing anymore money and saddling us with debt.

Well there’s been no explanation of why Chris Wilder left. That’s not good enough, we’re being kept in the dark. I’d like to hear from both sides their reasons for this split and we can make our own mind up.
I dont think it would make any difference. If the board gives their reasons for the departure thay would be called liars by some, and vice versa.

It is clear he hasn't been sacked. Maybe both sides, for whatever reason, have decided they can no longer work together and have decided on an amicable parting.

Wilder could be disappointed with himself
He might see it that he's let us down

It's a problem of being so devoted that having such a poor results wise season
It was hurting him too much
It's a mountain of frustration he's felt isolated on

Mutual consent might just apply here
No one will feel more deflated than Chris

Spot on.

I never missed Warnock being here, not even when we were REALLY shit. He showed his true colours long before.
I always thought he was an embarrassment - particularly to the club.
If he could have just gone on with his job without ever opening his mouth, being interviewed or being put on camera.

Constructive dismissal - based on what?
The boss wouldn’t let me do what I wanted so I’m off.
That sort of constructive dismissal?
Not wanting to admit to not knowing much about anything but who is “Wit”?
It is short for something?

At the time when the prince was buying another club in France, we had broken promises on January transfers, upgrades on the training ground and a threat of a DOF.
On the other side of the coin we had an unbalanced squad, little value in some player purchases, terrible results and inflexible style of play coupled with Wilder blaming everyone but himself.

I think there is fault on both sides, but the Prince initially bent over to support Wilder but when that no longer worked he needed to lever some control. Wilder did not like it and

the rest is history

I doubt that his contract would give him such complete control.
He was an employee and I can see so little chance for their being a claim for “constructive dismissal”.
I would like to know what happened between late Friday morning and Saturday night.
Why did it take so long and WHAT was it that was taking so long?

Nice of Prince Abdullah to hide and shove Bettis out there.

Say what you like about McCabe, at least as owner he'd have the balls to front it up

I suspect our communication channels are rubbish and then there's also the time difference. Who knows but I bet it was shoddy.

I guess having a DoF may help with some of this.

I've seen two strange interviews this week. The first one I wasn't too bothered about but but they were both charades. I don't know why they tried to make the Bettis interview appear to be questions and answers.

It would have been more honest if he had just read a prepared statement on behalf of the board rather than answering scripted questions and answers whilst trying to pretend he wasn't reading it all

I thought Bettis' interview was utter dross. Talk of taking the club forward when they havent even funded the roof being fixed at the training ground sounds like absolutely boll*cks tbh.

He looks proper shifty as well.

I wonder (hope) if Abdullah will sell SUFC when he realises he is going to have lost hundreds of millions of pounds when we don't get promoted next season. You don't get promotion by getting rid of a top manager and replacing him with Tindall who got sacked from his last job after a few months. Abdullah is even worse than Chansiri! (Sorry, I forgot we are not allowed to criticise the board. Obviously Abdullah is our best owner ever!)
You've got to be a pig
That is north kore a talk at its finest

It would have to have been some training ground to fix the performances and team selections this year. Not sure how bricks and mortar would sort out baffling selections, poor substitutions and a refusal to change tactics that saw us lose almost every game. We can blame the Prince, Bettis and whoever else but Chris is in the thick of it and he is doing a great job of
Pushing blame everywhere.

I wonder why the interview just stops abruptly? He seems to be in mid conversation when it just cuts off. Probably nothing, but it would have been interesting to hear what else he had to say.

It doesn't matter what the Prince said about Wilders job being safe

If Wilder constantly has veiled digs at the board during interviews there's only going to be one outcome in the end.

If he can't lift his bottom lip off the floor for long enough to give his team the confidence to play there's only going to be one outcome in the end.

He knows the financial situation, so he must be asking for something that he believes is affordable, but that doesn't mean it is the Prince's first priority.

In these circumstances you get on with your job and bring the matter up at another time.

It sounds more and more like he's been tapped up, Celtic maybe

And if that's the case I'll not view him in the same light again, not because he left to go elsewhere, but because he's sulked and moaned us all the way to relegation before doing it
