What's keeping the failure wilder in a job?

Parker & Dyche. Both with better records than Wilder for promotions to the PL. Not that I’d want either of them, but it is nonsense to suggest that Wilder is the only option.

Chris Wilder is not the only option, many didn't want him when he first came, - 'not good enough for our club'..

Watford FC - 19 managers in the last ten years, 12 since relegation from the PL.

Yet CW, despite his Selles/Bord/AI handicap has finished 3 places above them.

QPR - 9 managers in the last ten years.

Despite etc. CW finished 2 places above them.

Sunderland FC - 10 managers and 9 caretaker managers in the last ten years.

The statistics say?

If you buy enough lottery tickets, you may win a prize.

Though it might only be £10.

What are the odds of probability in appointing a new manager?

Though someone is going to reply that you have to be in it, to win it.

How is he a failure?

1st time:
United from 11th in league 1, peaked at 9th in prem and left us bottom of prem. I’d say that’s pretty successful.

2nd time:
Picked a club off the floor and got a tally that would’ve got us promoted most seasons, in the same year Baldock passed away and the club was emotionally on its arse. We lost at Wembley after dominating most of the game and VAR getting involved in a goal I’ve seen be allowed many times this season. That’s football. Sunderland had a bit of the X factor that we lacked I think, probably due to how both sets of fans felt about getting to the premier league. We joked about not wanting to go and they were like us in 2019 where it felt like you’d won the lotto.

3rd time:
Returned to find the club had gotten rid of Moore, Anel, Souza aka the physical spine of his team and didn’t replace a single one of them. Lost every game and didn’t score since the first game. He was able to convince Bamford and Jairo to come in to try and fill the Moore and Souza void and turned Bindon into a decent player after he was slagged off for the first 6 games as a waste. Finished 13th and got us within a conversation of playoffs.

So please, tell me, how is he a failure? He’s had low points and moments of failure yes, but they are outweighed by the successes. So to brand him a failure is, for me, an emotional thing rather than an opinion based on fact.
What’s he done in the past four years? How many promotions has he achieved elsewhere/here?

“Judge me on this season” - Chris Wilder.

Watford FC - complete basket case of a club

QPR - Probably your best shout to be fair, never really clicked with any manager they’ve had in recent times. Can’t remember the bloke they had who fawned at every club possible cifuentes is it? He seemed decent if not a complete mercenary.

Sunderland - new owner/reinvented themselves, built well and are now seeing the fruits of the struggles they’ve had.

Got to say it… You’ve got to be in it, to win it ;)

God this is tedious.

It’s very simple.

1- the owners don’t have the money to overhaul the recruitment and scouting network, especially those European gems picked up by others.
2- we’ve been a club of over achievers forever, and so still have a majority of players who are functional under strict systems to be a success.
3- Owners don’t have the tactical knowledge to overhaul structure away from a manager who’s doing it all.
4- Very fee managers able to work like that, or invested enough to do it at this club.

So for those reasons, he will be staying.

Would I love a fluid, fast paced skilful side? Yes.
Are we going to see that? No chance. It'll be more of the same.

That's three off the list (if Wilder counts). Happy with that, just wish I could hear some names linked that actually excite!
I fully agree, but I am sure that Boro fans had never heard of Kim Hellberg before he arrived and transformed them. There are exciting managers out there, it's all about research, knowledge and having the balls to employ them!
