Now there is an intriguing thought. Souness at his prime v. Yaya Toure.

Think my money is on Souness the hard, ruthless bastard!

Look at this as well. Gary Sprake gives Booby Gould a real piledriver of left hook. No messing about, no handbags, this is a full on punch.

What happens? He gets booked! These days he would be off and banned for 10 games...

I love how Souness goes for the opposition player and when he is pulled up, gets all outraged and angrily points at some invisible injury on his right leg!

From memory, that was a Roy Keane style revenge challenge for something that happened earlier in the game (its a European Cup match vs an Eastern European team I think). The original foul was nowhere near as bad, of course.

It was. Souness rarely forgot when retribution was possible!

Gould wouldn't get selected these days, no rolling around at all, useless.

Plenty of punch ups here

Liverpool were the European Champions and had begun their League campaign with 10 wins and a draw from their first 11 games. We were in the bottom half of Division 2. They fielded their full strength side of Ray Clemence, Phil Neal, Phil Thompson, Emlyn Hughes, Alan Kennedy, Ray Kennedy, Terry McDermott, Graeme Souness, Steve Heighway, Kenny Dalglish and Jimmy Case.

And I was on holiday and missed it.

I was supposed to be back at my boarding school to start 6th form that evening. My dad lied to my headmaster saying that we were on a holiday that week! I saw the Liverpool, River Plate and Palace (lost 2-0) games

I managed the Palace defeat only. Just about sums up following the Blades really, that.
