Was before my time mr flynn, ended up playing cicket with him for woodsetts for a couple of seasons, only a few years after did i even find out he had played for the blades, shows the character of the man, that even though he knew i was a blade, not once in those 2 seasons did he feel the need to tell me he had played for us, really lovely down to earth fella
John Flynn was signed from Workington, his hometown club :)
(Sorry, Silent :( - missed your earlier correction)

Well, £5m would have been our record signing. Good spot.

Wouldn't have made Asaba any better but might have kept the 'Weer's muneh gone' lot quiet for 5 minutes

How much did the Desso cost again?

2/3 of a Jamie Murphy for the first installment.

Duffy went last year for the second instalment and the final balloon payment will be covered by JOC, Fleck and 1/2 a Norwood.

Watch this space. Kop need a new roof an all.

According to an RPI calculator, as a rough guide the £26,500 fee we paid for Currie in 1968 would be around £411,000 in 2015, so let's say about £500,000 today.

For the benefit of any financial experts, this is only based on RPI rates.

When Currie joined in 1968, the world record fee was £500k (Pietro Anastasi from AS Varese to Juventus, seeing as you asked). Currie for £26,500 was just over 5% of that so using the Neymar transfer as a new benchmark, Currie would cost us £10.6m today. Seems realistic, for a talented 18 year old.

I can see your logic, but surely we'd all accept that the record fees have gone up exponentially in the last 10-20 years and the difference between what an average championship side are paying, like £4m for Egan, compared with the £200m paid for Neymar is now vast.

I agree though, that £10.6m would still have been good value for Currie in today's market. It's just that, actually, it was much much less in comparison.

To be fair, even back when we bought TC, the £26,500 fee still didn't seem like much :) and nowhere near the equivalent of £10.6m (although his quality soon made him seem worth that ;))

£35000 for Eddie wasnt it?
Think so, I started being a Lane regular in January 1970. Eddie signed for us in October 1968 at the time I didnt know any of our players and most certainly I didnt read the back pages of the papers. Wiki says £27,500 but I believe you are right.

Not long term players but a quick turn around and profit go to:

Martin Smith - Free / Sold £1.2m
Oliver Tibility - £200k / Sold £1.2m

That's the best you can do?

Sadly it looks like it is.

At least I can rest in the knowledge it didn't take me 4 hours to respond though. More top secret missions keeping you away from the important business of abusing KM?

'Four hours to respond'?

Yet that response was at 10.39pm to a post at 6.15pm. Four hours and 24 minutes later.

You really don't think this through coco, do you?

Keep it up with the piss-weak 'service-related' jokes though. You is one funny man, and no mistake.

I'd been out to the pub. I accept having no life in the day and stuck by a screen, but I do like to get out and see the chaps.
I don't 'think it through' as my online 'life' is not part of some master plan, but credit to you for copying my earlier retort.

You seem to post about it often enough so I get confused. Are we mentioning your job this week or not?

You is one funny man, and no mistake.

I know, I know.

I'm so funny I have had to have titanium side implants fitted as they can no longer be stitched due to over-splitting.

Back to the footy - were you a bit pissed off last weekend when our bargain buys and 'lack of investment' team, played one of the best halves i have ever seen in 48 years of watching United? Must make it harder to drum up another anti-KM posse....
