Let’s face it, if we didn’t do one of the most sensible things that we have done in a long time and put a high end release clause on him……he wouldn’t be with us now.

As frustrating as it is for us lot now, it’s actually really shrewd business on the clubs side. Berge’s agent can tout him out all he wants, but he was the one who encouraged berge to sign the contract with the clause in the first place. If he wants his player to leave, then he has to really encourage someone to hit that trigger clause…. Or at least bud something that is meteor that for us.

The one thing that impressed me about the player is that he hasn’t gone backwards. He’s doing what’s he’s paid to do…. We know there more in him, after all he’s not the finished article yet. But he hasn’t switch off…

He's 24. He's the finished article.

Ah yes, 24. He’s maybe got one year left before he retires.

He’s got at least ten years left to develop.

Was sharp as good as he is now at 24?
Different aspirations you and me. I don't like my £22m players mollycoddled in their mid 20s.

Hopefully he plays today.

I'd find it ridiculous that he doesn't play a crucial game on Tuesday because there is about a 5% chance someone MAY make a bid for him on Thursday.

You’d think if that happened, it would be at the request of a bidding club. However:
1. That would mean we’ve actually had a bid; and
2. The bid is acceptable and/or meets the release; and
3. We agree to not play him in a top of the table clash; and
4. Accept the unrest it would create in the home crowd if he’s not playing.

You’d hope that is all too high a bar to breach…

I’m probably way off the mark here but, is it actually within the rules to purposely not play a player at the request of another club ??

It sound ridiculous. Can you imagine going into a match against a relegation threatened club in the last weekend of the season and playing a ‘weakened side’ . The other teams fighting for survival would go ballistic and rightly so.

Well Liverpool did it against Fulham in 2007, giving Fulham an easy three points which helped send us down

Clubs will do what's right for them and won't care what the effects on another club are

We need to keep players like Berge but we are in the Championship. We got him for the prem league so no doubt that’s where he belongs.
Hopefully he can take us back there.

I agree definitely. Unfortunately it absolutely happens. I suppose the buying club might want to avoid a player being cup tied or snapping his leg etc.

Berge is not worth £35m.
And since when does "What somebody is worth" have anything to do with it?

If he signed for Bournemouth instead of us they'd be touting £50 million despite getting relegated.

It's about time our fans dragged themselves into 2022, and lost the attitude that because he "plays for us, so can't be worth that much"

We've left that behind with McCabe, so it's about time the fans did as well

Like Manure did then ?

Exactly, £35mil is probably about right when you look at how silly transfer fees knocking around. We are not asking for a silly amount of money on top of what we paid for him at that price.

Agreed Bladesman Preston reckon Emil Riis is worth £10 million, with no international caps and 14 open play goals in the championship last season. Not that a stat that like that means bob all. MGW £42 million is equally mind boggling.

Very much like JJBlade said players are effectively worth what the selling club deems them. It’s then normally a stand off between the owners valuation, player and agents. Some clubs decide to take what ever is on offer in the end at the expense of not having a mardy twat dragging their heels around the place. The one thing I believe doesn’t happen anymore is selling players on the cheap, we seem a lot more shrewd than that these days.

Besides, Sander doesn’t seem to bothered about kicking up a fuss so it strengthens our hand. To put it into context Flynn Downes a midfielder who got 1 goal and 2 assists at swansea (15) went to West Ham for £9.6m, meanwhile Forest picked themselves up Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo from Huddersfield (3) for £10 million. They is no accurate valuation system, only good and bad business.

The winger from Ajax. He's not a massive goal scorer at all. Yet he's coming in on a deal worth up to €100m. Never kicked a ball in English football and might not get on over here. Is he worth 3x Berge? It's all relative isn't it? Supply and demand not to mention desperation of both buyer and seller!

His car is parked in the ground car park, right opposite the players entrance. "SB 8" number plate, black range rover. Could mean he's in the squad tonight.

Let’s hope so.

That might belong to a high ranking member of staff who is putting the finishing touches to his transfer documents to Leeds for £5M+Future friendlies etc etc
