Just a thought for all the fans who were telling us all on here that selling a financially valuable player in the last year of his contract who had no intention of renewing with us and who wanted to see what his options were in 9 months so he could walk out and take a huge signing on bonus.... Without this sale we don't bring in Hamer.

So we have a demotivated Berge trying to avoid injury and going through the motions before leaving for zip, or we get in £15m and use that to sign up a better player in Hamer and tie him down to a 4 year contract helping future proof us. Mmhhh difficult one.

The club was absolutely correct in moving Berge on and no he wasn't being used by the club so all this nonsense about being used by the club was just that. The club did what it needed to do. That's what matters to me, not Sander Berges bank balance and career (much as I like the lad).
Nailed it ! That is my reasoning behind it. Shame that some blades cannot wait to jump on his back immediately after Burnley throwing him to the wolves against City.

If you look at the Burnley stats from last night, he was no different.................no tackels, no headers, did'nt win the battle and people on here moan at his loss, however, we now have Hamer. Comments Please?

People moan at his loss because apparently the board knew about it 27 months ago and should’ve planned for it so Hamer could start today 🤪

Harsh to judge any player with a new team he will have barely trained with against the English and European champions tbh. Surprised they started him tbh!

Been with his new team a matter of days playing against the best team in the world.

Ridiculous judging him against them, let's see what he does when he is settled and gets a run of games.

Harsh to judge him vs man city in his first game but I'd swap him for hamer plus my right bollock any day of the week.

Personally, I don’t give a toss about his stats now. He’s gone and we should concentrate on the players we have. I’m fully expecting Hamer to be the player we thought we had bought in Berge, who despite some obvious quality, let’s be honest, was patchy and non-combative, at best.

I've tried to find words to describe Berge's appearance and heavy touch on the ball.
'Cart horse' is more accurate that I have come up with..

Thing is, Sander would be great in a great side, but he's always going to be pretty mediocre in one battling for survival.
Sander would be outside the matchday squad in a great side

I saw nothing in 3 and a half seasons with us to convince me that he's anything but a decent Championship standard midfielder.

In a side battling for survival totally ineffectual considering the amount of times during matches he goes completely unnoticed.

The 2 guys brought into our side look much, much better, in every aspect of play.

Everyone looks better in a great side. Everyone.

Amidst all the transfer angst, turning 1 year of Berge into multiple years of Hamer was a masterstroke.
The timing of Berge going is what hurt me. I know it's very early and I do have faith in Berge to be a good player at this level, but if you asked me to rank Souza, Berge, and Hamer then right now Berge comes third. Classy as he can be he was always going to be replaceable in a way that Ndiaye isn't.

He's not a bad player and on his day he can look the real deal. Trouble is, his day is far too infrequent.

Always got the impression too that as nice a lad as he undoubtedly is, he thought he was using us as a stepping stone because that is what his advisors had told him would be his career map. In reality, he was just a decent SUFC player and not 'above' us. A proper star came along and put him in the shade in that respect.

I wish him well in his career but not just now as Burnley are a direct rival and I want them to struggle. I hope we are laughing our bollocks off as we stay up comfortably whilst Saint Vincents Burnley crash n burn.

He’s been done dirty there tbh. Why would you spend 10m on a player who’s clearly not a CDM and play him there?

Appears a naive and ill-informed decision from Kompany, surely he’s not just assumed he’s a holding mid due to his stature?

I’d like to think these PL teams actually research their targets thoroughly before spending the GDP of a small island on them!

The general perception is that Berge is a "deep lying midfielder" / CDM. He played there for Genk, plays there for Norway, and more often than not played there for us. If football was a non contact sport he'd excel there but he's just too soft to get involved in the physical side. Even Norwood who is half the height and weight provided more of a physical presence.

The Berge/Ndiaye/MGW attacking combo was outstanding and Berge proved how good he could be on the days where you could tell he believed he was bigger, stronger and better than the opposition.

I think the psychological aspect of Berge's game is huge, but he needs to play further up and actually believe he's good enough to dominate games otherwise he's a passenger.
