Ben Woodburn

I'm glad he's gone to Preston or any championship team, and hope he plays twice against us as it makes our quest for 6 points easier. He is not very good. I'd class him as about the same as that Man U loanee who for some inexplicable reason started in front of Billy against the pigs.

This guy is the reason I just cant get excited about highly rated Prem loanees

I was excited when we signed him but I think I’ve learned the value of signing a loanee who has plenty of first-team experience at a decent level already - MGW and Henderson had, Doyle has, Woodburn had barely played any senior football when he joined us. Ampadu had I think made more appearances for Wales than any club side before he came to us (though to be fair to him I wouldn’t say he ā€œfloppedā€, just wasn’t as good as we needed him to be with everything else on fire around him).

Very true - there are exceptions though aren't there. James Wilson had 15 premier league appearances and 37 championship appearances and was pretty rubbish.

The attitude of Gibbs White and Henderson were completely different to Woodburn and Wilson, you could see it in their first handful of appearances.

I actually liked Ampadu

Seem to recall Wilderball was a bit too frenetic for Woodburn. Another of the long list of pretenders to the 'Duffy' role. Duffy joked about it when he was interviewed on 'One of Our Own'.

I think the difference between a good and bad loans for teams in the top half of the championship and premier league is loaning players who have cut their teeth a bit lower down.

Henderson Shrewsbury
Gibbs white at Swansea

Loans which haven’t gone so well are where they haven’t had loans befeoe

Wilson manure
Woodburn Liverpool.

We know Doyle can do it at this level and more importantly so does he.

I would have liked Devine at spurs. Attacking midfielder but he hasn’t cut his teeth at league level, neither Scarlett.

Wilson had already been on loan at Brighton and Derby before he came to us.

Astonished that Wilson passed the Wilder/Knill d**khead test as in his first press interview was along the lines of:
"I've just come to Sheffield (sic) to score goals and get in the Man Utd first team (ha ha. Dream on. Was a million miles away then for a team who were a lot better then than they are now) and
"I believe in my own ability - I am better than Ronaldo, I offer pace; goals; skill etc" (or some other self delusional guff)
There was no humility, no "I am just going to get my head down/earn the shirt etc/heard about the passionate fans want to do my best for them", it was all just about how ace he was and how lucky we were to have him. It must be weird being picked up by Man Utd as a schoolboy and being told you are the next coming, only to not be actually good enough for mans League football .
Anyhow after tanking with us and at various other clubs on loan he was signed permanently by Aberdeen and he said the same sh**e at their announcing press conference!
And guess what happened to him there...

TBF to Wilson - I have just googled what he is doing now ... and he was MOM in the playoff final as Port Vale went up and scored both goals in their semi .... seems like they love him. Nothing wrong with aiming for the stars when starting out on a career and backing yourself. He failed on his predictions for himself BUT he has obviously kept going, kept his head down and he is doing what he loves ... he has found his level now - he is happy ... so hats off to him.
Not good enough for us, but 100% like Ben Woodburn, worth the gamble ... Ravel Morrison is in this bracket but will he have the drive like Wilson to drop down the leagues and become a hero to a team again?
Good luck to all of them

I hear he changed his name by deed poll to James Mcatee
