What I find amazing is how these clubs like Villa, Leeds, Forest seem to be up shit creek but are able to find new owners in a matter of weeks who then unleash the cash.

Meanwhile down at the Lane it's impossible to find a buyer !!!

The problem at the Lane is not the lack of a potential buyer, it's the seller. As long as our fans are reluctant to accept this it will never change.

Saw on BladesMad earlier that Liverpool Blade had posted on here that Liverpool local radio were saying we had got Woodburn on a permanent transfer.

Can't find the post on here though or take a screenshot from BM.

Why anyone would believe a bullshit twitter account entitled "exfootballagent" and get themselves into a right lather about it is beyond me.

Id rather believe Nixon, an actual football journalist with actual connections.

I think if we get Woodburn it means we’re confident on Waghorn.

No Waghorn would have meant big money on Freeman and a loan striker.

Woodburn and Waghorn = Plan A
Freeman and loan striker = Plan B

That’s way I see it anyway.

Could we possibly go for both Freeman and Woodburn?

I'd be pleased if we got Woodburn, but if there's a chance we can get Freeman permanently we have to take it regardless.

I feel that it’d be a choice between Freeman and Waghorn. Only one ‘big money’ signing left in us I reckon.

Bang on, especially at the rumoured 3 million. Peanuts in this market.Best laid plans can sometimes be altered by players becoming available. Even if it's not a position you're prioritising.Only an idiot turns down top players - in any position.

Probably right, but given we apparently had a decent budget before selling Brooks, we should be able to do both, at least if Freeman would only be £3m (which he shouldn't be to be honest).

If it is one or the other, I'd choose Freeman for sure, and sign a cheaper striker like Adam Armstrong, then try for Gallagher on loan as a bonus. But then again.... wages. That would be pushing it but we'd have superb attacking options.

£3m would be daylight robbery, not a chance in my opinion.

Yes, Woodburn as a second striker and Freeman in the hole. Ideally would like a plain old number 9 striker though and I think if we don’t get one we should keep Lavery about the place for cup games and so on. 3 strikers and a lad who’s just finding his best position isn’t so ideal.

It wouldn't be ideal having only Clarke as the line leading CF. We could try and get one cheap as back up if we managed to get Freeman and Woodburn, like Wyke or Vellios from Forest.

I think one of the reasons Wilder is keen on Waghorn is that he's strong and hardworking enough to lead the line despite not being tall, and could work in combination with any of the others, meaning we wouldn't need an additional target man.

If we could get Woodburn on a season-long loan, I'd like to see any wages for the likes of Freeman diverted so we can have a potential season-changer in BW.

Is there a young player you expect to make an impact this season?

Ben Woodman. Talent comes and goes, but very rarely does a youngster make a lot of noise from the youth ranks. Gerrard, Owen, Carragher and McManaman did, and Woodman is the next potential star. Link

Didn't Neil Mellor make a lot of noise... Not sure on Woodburn. If his attitude is good then fine I guess. We do need someone who can change a game from the bench so of he can do that then all good

Or more recent....and closer to home....

James Wilson.

If we signed Woodburn and also picked up that lad, Ingstove it would make a superb combination.

Especially good for the long winter part of the season.

I think the difference with other clubs is that their owner actually wants to sell the club.

My thoughts entirely. It would seem that K.Mac is holding us back. You simply need mega-rich backers to get out of The Championship and United would be a very attractive club to any potential backers. But, whilever Kev. views United as 'his', we're going nowhere.
Not a chance anyone is getting him on a permanent

Not a problem. We - obviously - can't compete at the 'top end' of the transfer market so need to supplement our buys with talented loanees. Tammy Abraham transformed Bristol City in his season with them. He left for Swansea and Bristol fell off a cliff. Coincidence? Similarly, Mitrovic got Fulham into the PL, the money is rolling in and now they've bought him.

The secret with loanees is not to get too attached to them, they don't belong to us. But a player like Woodburn could do us a hell of a lot of good while he's here.

For once, let's 'go for it'. Wednesday are on their arse and can't get anyone - buys or loans - in.

Well this is looking like the only possible deal we will get over the line by Saturday.....great potential but if I am 100% honest I would rather have Freeman on a permanent than Woodburn on loan...but hey, as we evidently pay peanuts we have to take what we can...#wagesstumblingblock

Like Wednesday you mean?

Hmmmmmmm, if only it were so simple.

Possibly the most self contradictory post I have ever seen.
