Just passing on that some of our ‘in the know’ posters are suggesting that you enquired about Ben Pearson. Apparently we told you £15M and then you decided to look at other targets as your entire budget is only £20M-£25M.

Can’t verify that it is completely true but just thought I’d pass it on. Good luck in the PL next year, nice to see someone do it the right way.

Pearson would be a phenomenal signing for us. But we are never going to spend £15M on a midfielder when there are more pressing concerns in the squad, it’s understandable that we’ve cooled our interest.

Problem is, we're going to have to try and stay up doing it the "right way" for the Championship where the "right way" in the PL is chucking (spunkin we say in this neck of the woods) money at it and screwing other clubs who have less financial muscle.

Yes that could be the case. I expect if you came in and unsettled him and he kicked up a fuss (which to be fair he hasn’t previously and teams are interested every year) the price could possibly be whittled down to between £10M-£12M. We wouldn’t go cheaper than that though based on the valuations we have placed on him previously.

Don't mean to demean Ben Pearson at all but 15m is a bit ridiculous.

12-15m is going to get you McBurnie or Assombalonga(sp) or even Maupay possibly.

Pearson managed to register no goals and no assists last season. He did manage 14 yellows and three reds in 30 matches.

He's by no means an attacking midfielder at the top of the pitch either.

Now he may be the heartbeat of the team when he's available, he may be to Preston what Scott Brown is to Celtic, but I don't see that type of midfielder attracting a fee more than 5-7m really, certainly not one with no top level experience. I certainly don't see us buying at the level quoted. Maybe that was their way of saying not for sale.

Yeah I understand that view to be honest. However, Leeds have been quoting teams £25M for Kalvin Phillips, who statistically was the only holding midfielder better than him last season.

This valuation just sums up the rediculous spiral that football has got itself into. No disrespect to Pearson, but no premier league experience and we are quoting those numbers.

We have seen countless good championship players who have struggled to make the step up, so there is a big risk in spunking this amount of money on a player who is unproven at this level.

Sadly 15 million appears to have become the default starting point when a premierleague club comes knocking.

No offence but, if anybody spent £15m on Ben Pearson, they're absolutely radged.

He's suspended more than available.

Funny thing I was trawling a few sites for rumours and came across a Fleck to WHU in January rumour, their offer was £4m.

You might not but I will. I’ve seen him play. He’s a mediocrity. Nowhere near Premier League quality. I wouldn’t sign him for the Championship.
