Everyone’s laughing about the valuation, which is fair enough, because it ridiculous.

But I also like the idea that we’d confess how poor we are to Preston at the same as making the offer. On what planet would we be sharing the size of our transfer budget with a club we’re trying to buy from?

This valuation just sums up the rediculous spiral that football has got itself into. No disrespect to Pearson, but no premier league experience and we are quoting those numbers.

We have seen countless good championship players who have struggled to make the step up, so there is a big risk in spunking this amount of money on a player who is unproven at this level.

Sadly 15 million appears to have become the default starting point when a premierleague club comes knocking.
Nothing wrong with them asking for 15 million but PNE
know what hes really worth which is about a third of that.Wilder already said they know the value of a player and will walk away from any deal if the price is inflated.
They will try it on now we are a PREMIERSHIP CLUB doesn't that sound great?.

Hi all, PNE fan here- the same one who posted the Callum Robinson rumour last year.

Just passing on that some of our ‘in the know’ posters are suggesting that you enquired about Ben Pearson. Apparently we told you £15M and then you decided to look at other targets as your entire budget is only £20M-£25M.

Can’t verify that it is completely true but just thought I’d pass it on. Good luck in the PL next year, nice to see someone do it the right way.

There is absolutely no way your ITK would know our budget. Could accept PNE wanting 15m though. The post is trolling in its extreme, you shouldn't have mentioned our budget.

As for Pearson himself, he can't control himself on the pitch with half decent championship players, prem players would have him for breakfast.

Thank you mate!

Do you do any other work other than being Pearsons’ agent? 🤣

Or maybe PNE don't want/need to lose their best players unless they receive a silly offer (i.e. ~£15m).

I'm sure the same was said by Brighton when Utd quoted a similar figure for JOC last season.
And what did Brighton say their entire budget was?

Ben Pearson isn’t as good as any of our current first choice midfielders. He is also bonkers and a red card waiting to happen. I would not want him if he was free.

If we're going for a defensive midfielder, which it seems we may well be from the links to John Mikel, I think we could do worse than sign an experienced player such as Gareth Barry or even Glenn Whelan for free on a one year deal. Also if the budget is circa £20m I don't see how we can spend £12m on McBurnie or similar and afford another forward, centre mid cover, attacking mid starter, goalkeeper and defensive cover, which I think we need.

Didn't Fulham think exactly the same?

I take your point but I'm not saying that all players we sign will be starters. We only have 16 contracted players, unless you include the transfer listed guys. We only have two forwards, one attacking mid, two centre mids (Lundstram as cover; not likely to be good enough), no right-sided centre half cover or upgrade on Bash, no left sided cover for Enda or O'Connell (not including Kean Bryan who's not played one game yet) and only one experienced keeper. With that in mind, I think 6/7 players is likely, which still sees us with spaces to fill for the 25.

What;s your thoughts by the way, not being arsey there, just interested.

It’s a Thread bare squad Atm for sure

Said in another thread - I’m sure wilder knows what he’s doing. And has irons in the fire but the likes of cranie and Leonard as cover players wouldn’t go amiss right now

You’d then be able to stretch the budget a little further to hopefully bring in the quality required.

Barry and Whelan both look on their last legs to me. How about Joe Allen?

I think we’ll be spending a bit more than £20m and it will depend on who is available. We won’t spend for the sake of it, however much some daft Blades would like us to.

Possibly we bid for him, but why in a negotiating table would you tell the other side how much you have to spend.

Good player, very similar to Norwood....and I thought CDM was Sanders position long term....🤔....unless he is seen as a replacement for Lunny la...?

If the Andy Ridgewell guy is right, £15m for a defensive midfielder who's now 25! That's not old, but in football terms 25 isn't young and as I say for a defensive mid, that's ridiculous. Of course the whole thing may be crap anyway. I think we need more creativity more than anything else in the midfield especially.

Ben Pearson? 2 years out of date idea

Same as last year - We NEED centre forwards to come in and some to go out - hopefully.

No offence but, if anybody spent £15m on Ben Pearson, they're absolutely radged.

He's suspended more than available.

I'd take Alan Browne though

Is Pearson that nasty beardy little bloke? I think I'd prefer Ricky Heppolette if so.

It might be the poster merging two bits of information:
1) He heard that PNE priced him at £15m
2) He read somewhere the budget was £25m (possibly on here!)

Not that Wilder was telling the PNE board what his budget was!

Good player, could believe we'd bid. I'd be surprised because he'd be a bit of a duplication of what we have in Norwood and Berge.

The bit about our budget is just nonsense. Could be more, could be less but why Preston would know that unless United used it as a negotiating tactic 🤷‍♂️

Definitely do not want this guy, at 20 years of age he could possibly get better. I doubt at 25 he is likely to improve and he offers us nothing to “cement” himself a role in our starting 11. In fact Regan Slater could do that.

Another ex-Man U youngster rising back up the leagues. It's a pattern.

I think he's basically a Besic replacement, but one we own and develop. I'd still be surprised by this signing as he's so ill-disciplined, but the rest fits. Plus PNE are a financially sensible outfit and will unquestionably be looking to raise funds during Covid.
