If we are saying we signed him because of publicly available stats like interceptions and blocks, that offer no context, I'm sorry but I don't believe it happened without the recruitment team adding their recommendations

Yes. The person ultimately in charge of the transfer business blamed publicly available numbers (see how The Star described him when he signed) rather than the recruitment staff for signing a young player that there would be no excuse for United not having a thorough knowledge of.

Probably too worried about upsetting the owners or the owners favourite son favoured by Russo. You gonna argue when you’ve been told how the club will now proceed and the very confident Mr Bord is given free range to call the shots?
 
It is worth looking back at the threads from the summer:
Matos and Barry were seen by most on this site as good signings with lots of promise.
Ogbene was a pretty popular signing too - although some saw it as a risk given his history of injury.
Godfrey was generally seen as a bigger risk, but with some potential upside.
The ‘AI boys’ were greeted with general bewilderment.

Collectively, we were right about some of these signings being dodgy. But by no means did we think they were all a bad idea.

He was removed from transfer stuff, no idea if the business relationship. That's why we reopened the 'players we've heard of' phone book

He was binned off shortly after the Selles post-match where he told the board to stop pissing about and get players in, which is why our strategy shifted overnight from ‘data led youngsters’ to ‘players with an agent Holyand/Bettis know’.
