Beerschot fan here. I just joined. Thanks for allowing me. Feel free to shoot any questions. About the own xiii brand, I am sure that this is only used for our club. Xiii is very special for Beerschot. It is the registration number of the club with the Belgian FA and is a symbole of our club. Before the rennovation of our stadium the die hard fans were in section 13 of the ground. If in coming years the Prince’s holding would produce your strips then I am sure they will launch a brand that refers to your history. The kits by the way are really good quality and sold to season ticket holders for only 30 eur. A fantastic action for the fans. Without season ticket they cost 49eur which is still very reasonable compared to the other brands.

That’s very interesting/reassuring that the quality is good and it reflects the history of your club. I think people here are slightly more sceptical simply because across the city Wednesday have turned manufacturing your own kit into a complete cock up and frankly a way to extort money out of the fans. The version you appear to have is far more palatable and certainly makes me feel less apprehensive about our current Adidas deal approaching it’s end

I wonder if the Beerschot badge has a Yorkshire connection that area of Belgium was liberated by my dads 49th Infantry (west riding) Division in 1944 their badge was the Polar Bear now worn by the Yorkshire regiment.

It has no link. Beerschot was already formed in 1899 with the Bear in the badge. At that time the region in Antwerp where our club is based was called Bernescot referring to a region where bears live. Our colours were chosen because our founder’s father died when he formed the club and in honour of his father he chose the colour of mourning, purple. We are the oldest club in the world to use purple-white as team colours.

It appears along with Beerschot and Al Hilal United we are part of a group, United World, that is producing its own clothing and competition shirts?.

Sorry, can't post the link but it's on the Beerschot official site.

We also have a cooperation with a top team in Colombia: America de Cali. Expecting the new Faustino Asprilla in our team sooner or later 🇨🇴

Thanks for joining, I have a question (or two) about your club:

Other than the in-house kits, has the prince made any changes to the club? Did he mention what were his motivations to buy the club also?

First thing you need to know is that the Prince is not the sole owner of Beerschot, he owns 50% and the other 50% are owned by two local entrepreneurs (DCA which is a big construction company and Wolff oil a trader in industrial oils). They seem to get along well. There are rumours that the Prince has or wants to increase his stake to 75% following the promotion but nothing official yet. The reason he bought the club was that he recognized the potential, a big club in Belgium that produced top talents like Moussa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Naingolan and many others, that had fallen to lower divisions due to bad ownership and which he could buy a stake in basically for free with a commitment to invest in our uprise. Very similar to his Sheffield investment. He did not change that much, he did put in Van Winckel as technical Director but that has worked out well so far. He brought in some very good players for our level like Austrian play maker Holzhauser who is in his current form one of the best play makers in the league. The transfer of Suzuki, Japanse international and scoring more than 20 goals last season is also a real sign of ambition. The whole transfer window in fact has been great. The biggest change that they are talking of now is building a new modern stadium which would make us a serieus Challenger for the top 5 in Belgium. So so far only good news. In the beginning there were ideas to change the club badge but he soon realised that this would not go well and thus he respected the fans’ opinion. We seem seriously on the rise similar to you. Only concern I have is that if he buys more clubs for his network we risk that he will prioritize other clubs. As long as he strives for the best for all his clubs than we can be happy.

Very interesting, and I was unaware of some of the names that have come through at Beerschot until you just mentioned them.

I find the Belgian league very interesting; it seems to perpetually produce some of the world's best players, yet the league isn't necessarily revered or respected as much as other leagues of a similar standard, such as the Ererdivise or the Primeira Liga in Portugal. Perhaps that is down the format?

I wouldn't worry too much about the Prince adding too many more clubs to his stable either, and thus diluting his attention: I'm not sure he has the capital for that.

Hope you stick around to keep us updated on all things Beerschot.

Well I'm in! Beerschot are now my team in Belgium (and the rest of Europe for that matter). Good luck this season mate, I'll be keeping an eye on your results ⚔ 🐗

Sorry but it's still Gate "7" and Olympiakos for me.

(Their big rivals Panathanaikos are Gate "13")

For who wants to know more I share the pics of our current squad (+ Coulibaly) and of our starting line-up and transfer activity.

I'm watching your game against Genk tomorrow on Dazn Canada. Hoping for a good win and a glimpse of Coulibaly.

Coulibaly is not yet in the squad I think, paper work tends to take longer these days. Hope you enjoy it but are the Blades not playing around the same time?

Tomorrow is our first game with fans but only 3.400 allowed with empty seats between each fan imposed.

I've heard of Van Winckel. is he a sleeping partner ?..... ;)

He was a physical coach in the past, he was an assistant of Bielsa at Marseille and then he made a reputation in the Emirates as technical advisor. He seems the main technical advisor of the Prince. I was sceptical about him first but can’t say he did a bad job. He brought in some good players. Also some donkeys but I guess transfers can never be 100% spot on and you always get a few that don’t work out. As long as there are more success signings than failures then that’s ok.

The Prince attempted to make him a major player at SUFC. Wilder wouldn't have it. He still has a place on our transfer committee and recommends players here, but Wilder has the final say.

Yes I followed that story. I think it’s good Wilder keeps the strings. Two years ago we had a manager similar to Wilder, who played a big part in our rise from the lower leagues and I was not happy that he was bypassed by Van Winckel to do the transfers but in the end it turned out ok. For now it’s sensible to surf on the success of Wilder but a day will come that the magic is gone and when it’s time to change I think Van Winckel can do a job to bring in talent from Europe and we also have our network now in Colombia and Argentina.

Assistant Manager called Will Still, cracking name hope his sons called Bill and wife Gill

As expected Coulibaly not yet elegible. Our new Japanese striker Musatore Suzuki will start today. Really curious to see what he can bring. He is half Jamaican half Japanese, scored 22 goals in J league last season and had 4 in 5 games this season before we signed him. He should be a rocket.
